Re: SQUIRRELS!

Yes I hate squirrels. There I said it. You change that bushy tail to a hairless one and you have a RAT. But I am not advocating killing them off.

Many times, when there is an overabundance of any animal, nature steps in and gives them some sort of disease to kill them off. That is actually what concerns me. Just like mice and rats carry diseases- so can squirrels. I just don't want to see a bunch of diseased squirrels running about the park. It's unhealthy for the squirrels and for the people who enjoy the park.

If we are going to personally cull the population of any animal I would say let's kill some geese. They poop everywhere and they are nasty creatures that will bit you if you feed them and then run out of food; I learned this the hard way many years ago when I was bit on the buttocks by a goose-which is funny now but I was like 5 years old when it happened and it hurt and then it chased me around!

@stupidseven: Squirrels are nothing like puppies; I love puppies. Blue skies I can take or leave.

@hamiltonparkjc: excellent reference but that was a groundhog; groundhogs are cute, especially when they run because they are so chubby.

Journal Square Redevelopment Plan

Hi All,

I'm looking for information on the Journal Square Redevelopment Plan. It was approved by the City Council this summer (Aug 2010). I am looking to see when the development is going to start.
If anyone has any information or any websites they can suggest I would appreciate it.

Thanks for your help!

Yeah they are definately not wolves. Wolves need lots of room to roam and support a viable population.

More than likely they are feral dogs or coyotes; probably not foxes though even though foxes can live alongside cities they are pretty solitary.

Guess I have learned something from animal planet.

SQUIRRELS!

Has anyone noticed a marked increase in the squirrel population of Jersey City in general, and Lincoln Park specifically?

I used to see hawks and/or falcons or whatever but I haven't seen anyway in about a year or so.

I was reading that wolves in LSP post and was thinking that maybe because of the razing of the wetlands on the other side of 440 (where they are putting that golf course) they are forcing the animals that prey on the Lincoln Park Squirrels (thats right they are a gang, just like the SouthSide Soc) to go somewhere else, like LSP.

The reason I bring this up is because I dislike squirrels and would prefer to see hawks, falcons, foxes, and coyotes eat them.

On a related note, has anyone ever seen a chipmunk in Jersey City? I have seen mice, rats (quite frequently at night down by the water), squirrels (obviously), a raccoon, a possum, and a rabbit but never a chipmunk.

Re: Woman slams another woman's head into bar at Downtown J.C. restaurant

As a former bartender (and maybe current if I can't find something else soon) I have come to realize that all people have an equal chance of causing problems when they drink too much.

I have had to throw out yuppie, frat boy, dipshits as well as thugged-out wannabe gangstas with fairly equal frequency. I am a little guy and I find that if I speak calmly, firmly, and (on one rare occassion) give a quick shot to just under the sternum they usually comply rather quickly.

And it is always over some dumb shit that could have been avoided.

Slamming someone's head into the bar is a pretty effective way to end a fight before it starts though...I am equally appalled and impressed.

the Vu Lounge and Restaurant inside the Hyatt has the best view of NYC out of any place I have ever seen. Beats the W by a mile.

No it's not, its called mixed income. If you would like to see an example of these homes you can find some near the new golf course under construction on 440. I am not really sure what you meant by luxury rented condos; seems like an odd comment.

We all know they are a bunch of animals! Where were the cops on this one. Obviously in this city a bunch of black guys hanging out on the water front at midnight are up to NO GOOD! Not be racist here but lets face the facts! I wasn't born yesterday and I sick of being politically correct. If a cop saw this, they should have at least checked it out! The old timer cops in this town need to go and we need to bring in some young militant types who will take these punks out once and for all!

Any group of people hanging out at the waterfront at night should be checked out.

We need more cops and we need to let the cops do what they have to do to clean this place up. Jersey City needs to be taken back from these degenerates.

A few unrelated comments:

-That sucked...he should go back on drugs.

-Where in Newark is that giant hole? Corey Booker needs to get on that.

-If you are looking for an urban wasteland he should have went back to Detroit.

Re: Garbage on the ground and sidewalks everywhere

My wife just looked at some woman in her 20's and the woman started flipping out cursing at my wife and saying that my wife should pick up the garbage, that picking up garbage was my wife's job, etc... Not that this matters but I think it may have contributed to the woman's response-my wife is white- the woman was black.

To be honest, I see all kinds of people tossing their garbage on the ground but more often than not it is teenagers and people of color. No respect for their community I guess.

Its not the housing projects that are the problem, it is the people who live in the housing projects. Housing projects were never considered to be a permanent solution to housing. Housing projects were put in place because of public health and safety concerns regarding overcrowded tenements and "tent cities," i.e. loss of life in fires, spread of disease, etc...

Prior to the 1960's most housing projects were filled by middle and working class immigrants who then moved on to greener pastures after making enough money to leave.

Many, if not most, of the current inhabitants of the nation's "projects" continue to live there generation after generation. The fact that there is a sizeable portion of the population enagaging in criminal activity and subsisting via government aidl makes living conditions for their neighbors intolerable.

The idea of "projects" was a good one until it was taken advantage of by the lazy and entitled. The same thing is going to happen in the mixed-income complexes that are currently being touted as the new social improvement program.

People need to learn to help themselves.

yeah this happened to me too... I don't know whether or not this is a scam but my "gut" said something wasn't right so I told him that I don't care about what he has to say and that he should go away. He was still insistent about seeing a copy of my gas bill but I think my dog snarling in the background had a distinct effect on his resolve.

Next time someone tries to solicit anything to me I am going to throw them out of the building. Except the Jehovahs because I like to argue with them.
