I agree with DanL. Both my children attended Cordero and yes, there are some imperfections.
The teachers are great and staff members were helpful. There have been an increase with parents
involvement with the school.

Many people do not realize Cordero also accommodates special education classes for special needs
and autistic children. Some of these children are required to take the State mandated test which will
affect the school's overall ratings.

I've voted in Jersey City for the last 15 years and never waited more than 5-10 minutes to vote.
Today, it was an 1 1/2 hr wait. Grace Church had a total of 4 voting booths (as it always have
been for the last 15 years) for 3 different districts and over 100 people waiting in five
different lines. Like the previous posters, do not get upset with the people that are
working at these stations. They are all volunteers and it isn't their fault for this setup.
We need to complain to the Hudson County Board of Elections to get this "fixed" for
future elections.

Re: Collision at Second Street and Manila Avenue Raises Traffic Issues

I am one of the "livid resident" that lives within this location. There are numerous accident that occurred at this intersection (and are not reported here or any of the Jersey City media). In fact, I have the local Jersey City Police telephone number as speed dial on my phone because of the high frequencies of these collisions.

Prior to this accident involved a husband and wife with a 2 mos old baby and a four years old daughter; another involved a senior citizen. I can keep listing but what is the use? Nothing has been done and I really wish the City would take some real action to resolve the traffic conditions throughout the city.

People did walk up the escalators. You have to realized that at the top of the escalators, the exit is only five feet wide. 1/2 of it was blocked with commuters trying to get into the PATH stations and trying to take the PATH to NJ. With limited space to exit and high volume of commuters, it took me quite some time to exit out onto the street.

The Port Authority needs to create more exits area to get out of the WTC. Before 9/11, you had more than one exits. We currently only have one and on a day like today, it was dangerous.

Next Step Broadway is great. We enrolled our 4 yrs old daughter last fall and she loved it. The teachers and staff are great and we plan to re-enroll our daughter in the Fall again.

Re: VERIZON FIOS

I just found out that FIOS is finally available to us (we live in Downtown JC on 2nd Street). I was browsing all the choices that I can sign up with Verizon. However, when I calculate the additional costs of the receivers and additonal channels that I want to subscribe to, I found that my cost is not any different than what I currently have with Comcast. I also read that Verizon charges higher taxes and also FCC charges. Could anyone confirm this info?

Definitely Spa H located in the fitness center Club H. I have
gone there for a facial and was pleased with the service.

Here is the link to their website: http://www.spa-h.com/

They also have specials from time to time.

Re: Security Deposit

Thanks for all the responses. I have moved a few times in my life and I always got my security deposit with interest. The reason I moved out of this apartment was that the landlord had "rules' from everything like how the door should be closed to the amount of garbage we can take out. The cleaning fees is due to the fact that we did not take out the stove and refrigerator and clean behind the appliances. (Can you believe it?) Also, I left one strand of hair in the bathtub.

Security Deposit

We recently moved out of our apartment in the JC area and the Witchy landlord took out $325 of my security deposit
for cleaning and painting expenses as well as a $50 charge for replacing the water filter in the refrigerator. Now I know this is not "legal" but the landlord will not give me the money. I have gone to see an attorney and he indicated that the landlord was wrong in taking this money from my deposit. However, he suggested that this is a small amount of money and that it isn't worth my time to pursue it via Samll Claims Court. Is he right?

I think I should because it is more the "principle" and ethics as opposed to the $. Any advice?

The apartments in the Downtown JC area do move fast. We were looking for awhile via Craigslist, broker and just plain walking around the neighborhood. We found our apartment just by seeing a FOR RENT sign in front of the building.

When I was trying to find an apartment earlier this year, I also saw an ad on Craiglist that caught my attention. I responded to the ad and when I was informed that I had to send $$ prior to looking at the apartment, I knew it was a scam. There have been news coverage about this scam in the newspaper and on TV. At the end, NEVER send money to anyone prior to looking at the apartment.

Re: Lincoln Park Area Crack Down on newly built homes: Fines for over 200 illegal apartments city wide

Illegal apartments are not just in the Lincoln Park area. They are also in the DOWNTOWN AREA (particularly the multi-family houses on Manila Avenue). I have written and called City hall about these illegal apartments but they have not done anything or responded to my calls. I have seen how these people live in these illegal apartments and it is so appalling. On top of that , the landlords are getting away with these illegal apartments. It is bad enough that rents are so expensive and the landlords are getting the extra income without reporting them to the proper agency.
