FREE Old Magazines
#1
Newbie
Newbie

Anyone interested in free old magazines: National Geographic, Domino, Architectural Digest, House Beautiful, Runner, Saveur, Food & Wine.

I'm downtown, 1blk from Grove PATH.

I'm moving this weekend & will be putting them to the curb for recycling Thursday night, or will donate to nursing homes, schools, etc. if no one wants them.

Thanks!
Jen

PUTTING OUT THE RECYCLING
#2
Newbie
Newbie

Does anyone know what's the EARLIESTI can put out my recycling without getting ding'd by the neighborhood improvement people?

It's 530pm, but for some reason, I have it in my head that I can't put anything out before 7pm, which seems silly.

Thanks!

checking w/ JC List first b/c you always have quicker answers than I can research!

Re: carpooling retrictions in/out of manhattan, the nyc.gov DOT site says it's East River:
http://www.nyc.gov/html/dot/html/pr2012/pr12_63.shtml

Do the carpooling restrictions apply to HUDSON RIVER crossings TOO? Do I check w/ Port Authority's website?

my second question is, can anyone confirm that these East River carpooling restrictions are ONLY until today 11/2?
I have a new job orientation in LI on Monday @ 7am, and am ready to tear my hair out trying to figure out multiple ways of getting there!!!!

STRAY SHOPPING CARTS
#6
Newbie

Does anyone know what to do about stray shopping carts from BJ's Wholesale? I tried calling them to pick up one of their carts, and they had no idea what I was talking about. One has been sitting on our street for the last 2 weeks, and someone decided to park it in front of our building.

I'm not going to move it to someone else's house, b/c that's not a solution. Serious repleis, please...I need this thing out & have no time to sit and scroll thru the usual JC List sarcasm. Thanks

Thanks for all the info & the links! If it?s minimum 2miles including the piers, that?s good news for me?.I?m a newbie runner...I like running solo, but find it difficult to stay disciplined along the route, esp. since I don?t own a wristwatch & haven?t calibrated my pedometer yet!
I joined a small Wednesday group in Hoboken for the next few weeks ?til mid-July, but it?s a BITCH getting there - even by PATH! As for the mileage markers, that?s a great idea, except the per mit police might come after us?even putting a flower pot on my stoop requires a permit ;)
I think a running group in JC would be so convenient...! What about Saturday or Sunday mornings...?

RUNNING ON THE WATERFRONT

Does anyone know the distance of the waterfront, between the Colgate clock & the very end of Newport? I know it's about 1.5 miles between the Goldman Sachs bldg & Target, however, that's straight down Washington St. I'm curious about the convoluted path along the waterfront.....?
Thanks!

Re: What should JC give Ociviedo in return?

OVIEDO is the capital of Asturias, on Spain's northern coast. It's a fairly large, hilly town, with cobbled sidewalks....it's clean, beautiful, and the food is great. The square where the cathedral is located is rich with history & architecture. I've visited twice because a childhood friend lives there, and they really know how to live life - feasts all summer, no 1am last calls, or kitchens closing @ 10pm. All this in a town where locals actually live & work. I hesitated to write a defense, because I know it's a waste of time when everyone goes off on tangents insulting each other's opinions....but also because I know no one is ever satisfied or appreciative of anything good or decent that comes JC's way, even after they've asked for it. But I felt I had to, since everyone mocking & criticizing it can't even locate it on a map or spell it properly.

ooh! oooh! i wanna contribute to this list...! not that i watch this show (really), but i was on the path home from nyc, and my cousin (an overly proud hobokenite)spotted some finalist from america's next top model, and lo & behold, she got off @ grove - MY stop...her name is shandie, the one who cheated on her boyfriend when the models were off in italy. ha! take that, hoboken....sorry, harsimus, it'll just suck for another second. maybe change the title of this thread to "people sightings in JC"....

Window Boxes & Historic Police
#15
Newbie

Not sure where to direct this question - anyone know anything about whether or not I need permission from the Historic Police to put up window boxes on the 3rd floor if window boxes already exist on the 1st floor? Or worse, will they prevent me from doing so unless we also put them up on the 2nd floor for appearances sake (I only own the 3rd fl., & just want window boxes so I have something to look at)?

Just don't wanna spend the $$$ on the stuff only to have them yell at me. I'm in VVP, and I know that there are some things they can stop & some things they don't care about. Thanks!
