the Wall Street Journal is owned by Fox News, so that doesn't surprise me much.

Don't know why I didn't just search for it. I guess they did write it. I'm really surprised and disappointed with the Star Ledger Editorial Board.

Spectra?s been mailing out these things that you can reply to with your support for the pipeline. On the back it has an image of the Star Ledger stating ?Yes to the Pipeline? and it would appear that the Star Ledger has an op-ed voicing support for the pipeline. Is this true? Or is this some shady misrepresentation of a letter that Spectra wrote to the Star Ledger? Or is it completely fake? I forget the date it was purported to come from.

Holy crap, they've taken off the gloves to leverage you to use triple play. The triple is $85 with a 2 year contract, but if I want just 15/5 broadband they still want $75! I guess Comcrap keeps my business after all.

Edit: downgrading my service on CC to drop the economy cable svc and just have broadband, I found another "heads we win, tails you lose". My bill dropped from $62.52 to............$59.50!! Please God, I wish there was real competition to this rapacious duopoly.

Just renegotiated our triple play.
We installed it 01/2010. I was going to "disconnect" and they finally switched me to the "customer retention" dept.

I now have:
No contract

Free Multi room DVR for the lifetime of my service

We now have the 35/35 internet

2 phone numbers and all the phone features

HBO, MAX, SHOWTIME, EPIX, ENCORE etc and upgraded to the "ultimate with HD"

and pay about 109.99 before taxes and the fee for the 2 extra boxes (we have three boxes).

I'm happy
aw what the hell every time I've called up recently complaining about my bill and trying to negotiate with them and even threatened to switch to FIOS they're just like "eh whatever sorry we couldn't help."

Until the cops start giving a crap, Newark Avenue will remain an area where the drunks, homeless, and crackheads convene. I think daytime is worse than night time, in fact I'm sure of it.

For anybody who is about to say "move to the suburbs!" ... yes, of course things like this are part of city living, but I don't think it's common to the extent that it exists on Newark Avenue in similarly priced neighborhoods in the metro area. It's a big quality of life issue. The problem has grown because nobody is doing anything about it.
the cops don't give a shit at all. The other day I saw him holding a huge stick and she had some fresh bruises and when I told a passing cop car they said "yeah we know" and drove off.

I'd really like those people to leave, and for her to get some help and leave him. They're both terrible people and I'm sure they're up to no good.

It's disappointing to see the remainder of the election results and see that the HCDO candidate often has 99% of the vote. This is not a sign of a healthy democracy. It's like old Soviet elections.

Here's to robust democracy instead of old party patronage.

None take, I?m not gay, but I still like the bar a lot (I just avoid it on "Glee" night). I just figured maybe it had been sold and that was part of the re-branding. Which would have been confusing to me, since that?s a pretty loyal and consistent customer base.

Glad to hear it?s just a name change and a cooler expansion.

No, you shouldn't. You should ride with traffic in the street like the law abiding citizen I assume you are. There are less potholes on the sidewalk, but you don't see me driving there.

That said, you're nuts if you ride with a kid in a bikeseat around here.
I would prefer that someone bike safely then abide by the law.

And if you are going to complain about people being law-abiding citizens, then I'd first like to see you stop jaywalking.

I just noticed that Star Bar is closed and the sign now says it?s ?Pint? along with a notecard stating that ?Pint? will re-open this Friday. I heard saws and things inside so I guess they?re renovating, but are there new owners now too? What?s the deal? Are they trying to un-gay the place?

it's because the sign out front says Jersey Wines and Liquors

I like the place a lot, btw. The owner will special order beers/liquors/wines for you if it's not in stock. And for such a small store, the selection is amazing. The selection of tequilas, rums, whiskies, and everything else blows Buy-Rite's variety out of the water.

The fact that this kid has had problems since his teens, abused drugs and alcohol and had multiple stays in wards just adds insult to injury. Neither family involved deserves what this kid has brought upon them. I wish him no well. and from the brief description of his condition, death might have been his only saving grace.
I...what? What drunk driving? What drugs and alcohol? Did you even read the article? He was found to be insane and is now confined to a mental hospital. He's not walking around on the streets right now. Psych wards aren't exactly like Chuck E Cheese.

Van Vorst has plenty of really good restaurants and bars and boutiques in short walking distance. There are some projects nearby, but I think you could say that about any block in Jersey City.

Fairly quiet neighborhood over here but there are certainly some characters. Being right next to the path train is awesome.

I'll agree with you here. I spend a considerable amount of time in Asheville, NC for my job and it boggles my mind how their downtown is sooo tiny but offers so much more in the way of shops, restaurants, and entertainment than JC does. Why can't Jersey City have successful independent businesses the way other places do?
Because of all the corrupt a-holes that make insane requirements for business to open. Atomic Wings, Barcade, Flamingo Diner, Zeppelin Hall, Torico's, Barrow St Bar. All of them have had issues with construction delays. It's almost like the city wants to deter new business. Then there's crap like the "no live music" (not even DJs!) ordinances, the stupid coin-operated amusement law that kept Barcade delayed even more, etc etc. It's #OOPS#ing stupid.

Buy Rite's whiskey and rum selections suck. Liquors in general, actually. Beer selection is great, but for such a huge store, they can't even begin to compare to Jersey Wines & Spirits in terms of whiskey selection.

anyone who walks by hamilton park regularly since it's re-opened has probably noticed that the tennis courts are almost constantly in use and there's even usually several groups of people waiting to use them.

i'm only mentioning this because a few days ago i noticed what looked like some guy giving lessons to a couple of people and then yesterday while i was jogging with a friend we stopped to check out the bulletin board at the park and noticed this guy's ad for cardio tennis. $20 a lesson and he's got several times listed on his flier. does anyone else think it's shitty of this guy to "reserve" blocks of time on the court so he can charge people for his cardio tennis crap? if no one was using the courts i wouldn't care, but i think it sucks because there's only two courts and people are almost always waiting to use them and then this guy comes from who knows where and uses this limited and in demand piece of public space for profit. if i showed up at 6:45 and started using the court he was supposd to have reserved for his class at 7 i wonder what he would do?
File a complaint with the city. That's bullshit and there's no way he's allowed to do it. The dude should find himself a court at a gym or a club that he can use.

In Newark they're illegal. Not sure about here. But a while ago I asked a fireman if it was legal to have a grill on my rooftop and he said "I don't know. Just go for it, if you make a mistake it means I get to keep my job."
