AMo, you opened your post under the false assertation that you know so much more about Paul than his supporters do, and that we are so uneducated about him and would be surprised to learn what he stands for.

You are completely ignoring the fact that you claimed "free market solutions" are his ONLY ANSWER TO EVERYTHING, and its EVERYONE FOR THEMSELVES. You are absolutely wrong on this, as I have pointed out regarding the fact that he wants more powers given back to the states to deal with issues locally. In addition to that, he has already said many times that on things like SS he has a plan to phase it out, not just yank it out from those who rely on it.

I take serious offense to the fact that you come here claiming to know better than all of us "uneducated" Paul supporters, yet you lack any knowledge of some of his most obvious campaign statements regarding getting power back to the states, and phasing out government welfare programs that are not effective and not financially sustainable.

Ron Paul as the REPUBLICAN candidate stands for things that I believe in, if your personal opinions about LIBERTARIAN ideals are so strong, thats fine, but I for one am happy to be closed minded to that if thats what you want to call it because Ive thought long and hard about my views and they wont be changed by someone who has an agenda and is trying to scare people as you are obviously trying to do here by misrepresenting facts.

P.S. - on SS, Ive been paying it for 10+ years and I will likely get nothing back from it. Id much rather have that money to myself every pay check rather than give it to the government to waste on whatever theyve blown it on. It is not a sustainable program when you involve the Federal Governement anymore...the administration costs alone and the huge baby boomer drain are going to destroy it.

Were it only so simple.

Of course there are examples of federal AND state programs that have been either flawed or outright failures. And the fact that the feds sometimes fail does not mean that the states can address the problems more effectively. But let's look at history. Prior to the federal programs set up during the New Deal, our economy swung wildly, between boom and bust.

Read up on the depressions of 1873, 1893 and the crash of 1927. Only through federal intervention and Keynsian economics, were we able to avoid the mass unemployment and disruption that previously plagued our business cycle. The states individually could not have done anything to manage the national economy.

Look at social security and medicare. These programs reduced poverty dramatically. It was only through a national approach that this happened. I could go on. Look at what the EPA has been able to accomplish. These are national problems that require national solutions.

The old states rights approach that you propose was a complete failure when it came to civil rights, workers safety etc. etc. And for a very simple reason. Left to their own devices, not all states will protect the environment or worker safety and will "race to the bottom" to attract corporate investment -- a problem we have now and would only be made worse by less federal involvement.

AMo, thats fine, I respect your opinion on the matter, as you are entitled to one.

I was simply clearing up your misunderstanding of Paul's policy which you incorrectly stated.

I cant agree with you especially regarding the statement that the Federal Governemnt has eliminated wild swings in the economy. I assume you must have been on vacation during the internet bubble of 2000, and you are posting this from another country not experiencing this mortgage/housing/credit bubble so wonderfully executed by the Fed? Not to mention that SS and Medicare solved probelms for the short term, long term they are impossible to sustain which we are seeing now.

Again, Im not trying to make this an open debate, because I dont expect to change your opinion, nor will you change mine.

His supporters should look to see if there's ANY historical basis for such a belief. Once they do so, they'll inevitably come to the conclusion that there is none.

This would be an interesting hypothesis if it were true, but sadly for you it is not.

Ron Paul has been very clear about the fact that one of the biggest problems we face is sending our tax money to the Federal Government who tries to apply a "one size fits all" approach to our problems, after being influenced by all of the lobbyists and special interest groups.

You have a country of 300 million very diverse people in terms of geography, nationality, social make up, education, income, and so on...there IS NO one size fits all Federal Government solution that will work for most issues, which is why his main way to solve the problems is to let the state/local government deal with them because they can have more customized and effective programs to do so. While the state/local government is solving these problems, the free market (the one you claim is his end all be all solution) is always allowed to enter with their own solutions.

Go talk to a teacher about the Department of Education's "No Child Left Behind" program, I dont know of one teacher who thinks it is working...in fact they think its causing bigger problems than we had before.

Look at FEMA and how it dealt with Katrina, look at Home Land Security and how much money has been spent.

These are all Federal Programs, and they are all costing tax payers billions of dollars, while not actually solving any problems.

Fox News Blocks Ron Paul

http://www.ronpaul2008.com/press-rele ... ox-news-excluded-ron-paul

December 28, 2007 10:39 pm EST

ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA ? According to the New Hampshire State Republican Party and an Associated Press report, Republican presidential candidate and Texas Congressman Ron Paul will be excluded from an upcoming forum of Republican candidates to be broadcast by Fox News on January 6, 2008.

?Given Ron Paul?s support in New Hampshire and his recent historic fundraising success, it is outrageous that Dr. Paul would be excluded,? said Ron Paul 2008 campaign chairman Kent Snyder. ?Dr. Paul has consistently polled higher in New Hampshire than some of the other candidates who have been invited.?

Snyder continued, ?Paul supporters should know that we are continuing to make inquiries with Fox News as to why they have apparently excluded Dr. Paul from this event.?

brian_em...thats all well and good, assuming that he only had internet support, but thats just not true.

He has more cash donations from individuals which has nothing to do with internet support, and he has pretty much dominated all of the straw polls, which happen IN PERSON, so again, saying its mostly internet support is just wrong. Below is a link to the straw poll results:

I know there is an entire section for the 2008 elections, but I thought it important to point out on this thread that Ron Paul is against government required vaccinations. This is the opinion of a man who was a doctor for many years and delivered over 4,000 babies...I think he knows what he is talking about.

To quote from his site:
http://www.ronpaul2008.com/issues/health-freedom/

"The government should never have the power to require immunizations or vaccinations."

For those being exposed to Ron Paul for the first time I think that these are valuable resources that should be read so you can get to understand his views and make your own decision:

www.ronpaul2008.com

www.ronpaulforpresident2008.com

www.ronpaulforums.com

www.dailypaul.com

There may be others, but these are the ones that I find to be free of the standard CNN, FOX News, and Rupert Murdoch influence.

Also, be careful of them renewing you for 11 months only.

For example, I moved to JC in September a few years ago.

The next year, I got a renewal application in August, so I sent it in by the end of August (I was worried about forgetting.) My new sticker said August.

The next year, I waited until August to mail in my sticker so that I would get another August, not a July. And guess what, I got July anyway.

That sticker should be good for a year, not 11 months. Any way to rip you off. You think about it, after 12 years, they'll have made another $15 or whatever off you. (And 12 years from now it'll be more than $15, I guarantee that.)

I dont think they are smart enough to figure that one out.

A Chevy Tahoe takes up almost twice as much space as a Honda Civic, yet the city is doing nothing to discourage drivers from parking oversized vehicles on the street.

I'm all for limits on SUVs because of their wasteful and negative impact, however the Tahoe does not take up twice as much space when parked on the street:

http://autos.yahoo.com/honda_civic_coupe_dx_5_spd_mt-specs/?p=ext

Civic Coupe: Length = 174.8 in.
Width = 68.9 in

http://autos.yahoo.com/chevrolet_tahoe_ltz_4wd-specs/?p=ext

Tahoe: Length = 202.0 in.
Width = 79 in.

Difference = 27.2 inches in length
10.1 inches in width

So on a street with parallel parking you give up about 2 feet per Tahoe, and in a lot with side to side parking you give up just under 1 foot.

and just for fun... :)

HUMMER H1: Length = 184.5 in
Width = 86.5 in

I agree that his parents should be held responsible, and I cant even begin to imagine the horrible, abusive, and violent crimes that will be committed when these 15 yr olds have kids of their own to abuse and neglect...its only going to get worse.

We need someone like Bob Barker to take up a cause and encourage elected officials to pass laws to "Spay and Nuter your local violent criminals" A good deal of the people having kids these days are not mentally or financially mature and responsible enough to raise them in a socially acceptable manner. Too many people think that having a child is a right....we have tests and standards if you want to buy a house or drive a car, yet ANYONE who feels like it can have a kid....or 6.

Re: Safety, our children, stop signs and speeding downtown
Just can't stay away

One of the biggest problems with the intersections is actually that the drivers come into them blind due to illegally parked cars. The example given above regarding the Light Horse is a prime example. Ive come close to being hit there close to a dozen times nomatter how careful I try to be.

According to the NJ Drivers Manual, here are the laws regarding parking (page 42):
http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/pdf/Licens ... er%20Manual/Chapter_4.pdf

10 feet from a fire hydrant
25 feet from a cross walk
50 feet from a stop sign

I see these laws voilated daily by literally dozens of cars....which is one of the reasons that it is unsafe to cross at many intersections. It does nothing to address the careless person who just doesnt pay attention when driving through an intersection, but then again they are probably the same people parking illegally.

If people followed those rules many of these problems would be avoided. If the JC PD enforced these rules, everyone would be happier.

Re: Legal Grounds - Coffee Shop on Grand Street

Please do not take this as a critique of YOUR parenting skills since I dont know you or your child, but most of these things should not be an issue for anyone who is even a half decent parent.

Ive had multiple experiences in the past few months here in JC where my dinner experience was ruined by careless parents letting their children either run or wander around bumping into other people tables, or just causing general chaos.

An attentive parent would never lose focus or control of their child to the point where the child:

-finds its way to an area (most likely secluded behind/under a table) where there is an electrical outlet.

-finds a way to pull, push, or hang on a table to the point of knocking it over.

Those are just two examples, but really the lack of focus that I see parents giving their children these days is scary. Almost every example given sounds like you expect that a child should be able to be set free to roam about the establishment with no adult supervision. Please dont expect the restaurants here or anywhere else to pick up the slack for people who just dont have basic parenting skills.
