Thank you for the explanation, I have been trying to figure out what was going on with those.

BM-

As a relative newcomer to the city I'm not familar with this neighborhood or association.

I note the Ward D connection, but out of curiosity, what are the borders of this neighborhood?

Just curious, didn't mean to hijack.

That's true, Leigh. Last time, I wound up walking over to Exchange. Guess it wouldn't *hurt* to sign up for the service.

EXACTLY, Mr. Crutch.

If I'm standing at the platform at Grove for 1/2 an hour, with no PA announcements, like I was the other day, how am I supposed to receive this magical email from the Port Authority? Should I go back out past fare control so my Blackberry can get a signal?

You are correct. Part of MEPS (Military Entrance Processing Command) screening is checking tatoos.

Crutch, you are incorrect inasmuch as you state 4 years is the mandatory minimum. Presumably we are talking enlistments here- it is my understanding that you can take on a 3 year enlistment at this time. And I could've sworn I saw something about 2 year enlistments somewhere.

That is not to suggest you won't get screwed and be on extended deployments during that time, but you *can* be in for less than 4 years. Personally, I'm not sure why anyone would want to be in for less than 4 years, given the way promotions and training work- after three years you would basically be getting out just when you're ready to start doing your job well.

NNJR- your post is exactly why this thread is confusing me.

Isn't it generally acknowledged and accepted that "pay to play" is inherently a bad thing? So where is this opposition coming from?

Abatements and PILOTs are absolutely a separate issue in my mind, except the oblique connection/possibility you raise.

Much obliged, injc.

I know it's late in the process for this but I think I need to step back and digest all the arguments for / against before I make up my mind.

Interesting. I find myself torn between agreeing with both of you, and neither of you.

injc, while you make a nice point about the "ideological rant", you do conveniently ignore PHResident's "gaming of the marketplace" argument.

So how about addressing that?

I like it when anyone, politican or otherwise, starts a sentence with any of the following phrases:

"Honestly,"

"To be honest with you,"

"In all honesty,"

"Frankly,"

Because then I know, for ONCE in their life, they are telling the truth. Whenever anybody opens with a phrase like this, to me, everything that has preceded is suspect.

Yes there is, IIRC, but the city/housing authority has to do so via a lawsuit- or perhaps some kind of administrative court action.

i posted this on the other thread regarding the pay to play ordinance so i'll do it here too.

Todays JJ has a letter to the editor from Mayor Healy disagreeing with Fulops ban on Pay to Play.
Can someone please post this letter? It's not online so you have to get the printed version.I don't know how or i would.

Lastly why can't we keep one thread going on this subject so as not to dilute the importance of of the ordinance.

Yeah slow down baby

Tryin a sneak a peak in while I freak the notes
Major m.c.s become minor b flats
So retire the mike, get your chains and your bats
Heres your chance to advance, gettin your stance
Im a shoot the holster off your cowboy pants
Pure entertainment, tonights your arraignment
Youre quilty, face down on the pavement
No holds barred, its time to get scarred
You and your squad better praise the real god
The undertaker droppin thunder on fakers
When it comes to lyrics Im as freaky as seka
So lay the mike down slow and careful
cause mine is fully loaded and I have another handful
A clip to slip in and start rippin
Divin and dippin and givin punks a whippin
Just in case you wanna go a few rounds and so
Im down so that you clowns will know

I got rhymes up the (huh) forget it, Im constipated
