Salonthehill inquired as to how many school kids are transported by school bus in Jersey City. If you take a ride by a school around either the beginning of the school day or the end you will see how many school busses are used, for example just travel west on Laidlaw avenue from summit avenue behind the fire department the new ms#7 you will see all the school busses lined up in the street.

I understand people are happy that theres new schools being built, now lets see how happy they actually are when the schools finally open and you have the school busses and parents picking up there kids. In my opinion it doesn't make very much sense to build 2 more schools less than a block from another brand new school, traffic will become even worse once the schools open. Also nobody still has answered the question of what happens when schools letting out and the fire department has to respond to an emergency? I guess people will consider that when something does in fact happen. As for the Stop n shop I do believe that when the state decided to condemn the property to put the 2 new schools there the represenatives from stop n shop emphatically stated that either way the store on central avenue will be closed . Once that happens the residents of the heights will have to travel either downtown ,to hoboken or to rt440 to do there shopping. Unless of course you find all your shopping needs on Central Avenue.

I have one question that no one seems to know the answer to, Where they are building the 2 new schools is directly across from a firehouse which houses engine 7, ladder 3 . You already have a new middle school ms#7 on Laidlaw avenue directly behind the firehouse, everyone states they shouldn't build a stop n shop because of the increase in traffic> Has anyone ever driven by a school at 8 am or 3 pm and notice the traffic? Try driving on Palisades and newark Avenue by Dickinson at dismissal time it will take you a minimum of 10-15 minutes to go one block. When the school bus is dropping off little johnny at the new school opposite the firehouse and a call for the fire department comes in and they have to get out what happens? I guess when they are delayed because of the added traffic, school busses and parents picking up their kids we'll all understand, after all the traffic increase won't be as bad as if we had a supermarket there. Just a little thought.

I am sorry, I misquoted you,the actual quote that you stated is "I'd imagine that the reason for the high rates is that the profession attracts(not all,but alot) of mentally imbalanced people." I may not have gotten the quote 100% correct in my previous post, but the meaning of your statements was exactly the same. The views of a very callous and shallow person pointing out my misquote doesn't change that. Now I am sure there are some punctuation and grammar mistakes in this statement ,but that doesn't change the point.Just like your pointing out my misquote doesn't change the meaning of your posts.

Your statement that"most not all must be mentally imbalanced" has to be the most absurd statement that I've read on these forums. Most police officer's do the job because everyday it's something different, most do it because it gives them satisfaction that they are making a difference in the community and also because of the benefits that it affords them and there families. You just come off as a very bitter person or maybe you're just ill informed ,either way the statement showed a lack of compassion or respect for the man's family and a lack of class on your part.

First of all, I don't know how much of what you say is true ,since you stated that the cops suspended her license, since in New Jersey only a judge or motor vehicle agency can do that. They may have issued her a ticket for having a suspended license ( which in any other place but Hudson County she would have been arrested for) and lastly when the police are conducting an investigation whether you believe it to be just or not , you shouldn't be using a cell phone.

I read this post and I actually was amused at some of the responses, the gunshop owner has a permit for the gun and a permit to carry he gets into a physical altercation and decides to fire his gun in the air. Does anyone see anything wrong with this scenario? The old saying is what goes up MUST come down, is it possible that firing a gun in the air( not at the individuals who he was in the altercation with) is actually quite careless/reckless . That's why someone who handles a weapon in such a callous and careless way should not be permitted to sell guns let alone carry one. True he may have stopped the altercation, but more importantly he could have injured or killed an innocent person.

Austrailian, when these juveniles( if you want to call them that) do commit another crime , the city won't have to open their checkbooks, these thugs were arrested by the police and then the State Superior Court Judge( Family Division) released them to the custody of their parents after the 1st court appearance . All juvenile complaints/charges are heard in Family Court( Never in municipal court) .In Jersey City that would be Superior Court 595 Newark Avenue

Minimum wage is sure better then nothing ,correct? Oh sorry my mistake they're collecting welfare and family first and subsidizing that with the proceeds from their drug sales. Like it was previously posted by someone else there are plenty of jobs out there especially in the construction field. Of course you may start out at minimum wage but you work your way up from there. If people actually had pride in themselves they wouldn't have a problem working their way up but instead you have liberals who coddle the people that refuse to work for minimum wage and would much rather collect welfare and believe that they are entitled to have things the easy way rather then working for it. Until these types of people decide to take on some level of responsibility for themselves you will always have the " mexicans" and others working and taking the jobs that are below the standards for those on welfare and public assistance. The Liberals wouldn't have it any other way.

If the person paid a fine that means he plead guilty, what happened more then likely is he(alda) chose to plead guilty to a lesser charge in exchange for dropping the original charges.(plea bargain) I personally don't know an innocent person that accepts a plea bargain if in fact he was truly innocent, maybe that's why the local newspaper didn't report it.Any new charges that were added after the fact would have to be done by the prosecutor

First of all I am not on the Troy/Healy team, secondly all the suggestions you put forth are already in existence( nothing new there) for example there is a web page to report broken street lights pse&g already has a web site for that purpose, jcpd has officer's on foot and in scooters ,you already have plain clothesed officer's in every district as well as narcotics officer's and a gang unit, as for the abatement issues that is a subject that would be better suited for Mr. Fulop to answer, not the Chief of Police.

True, it is not his area of expertise, but if you are going to criticize someone who is in that area of expertise wouldn't you expect Mr. Fulop to possibly gather possible solutions to the very problems he sites ,rather then simply issuing a press release stating that the chief should resign. How do you tell someone their not doing a good job if you don't have an answer as to how to change things? It seems logical to me that if you are going to call for someone to be removed from a particular job you should be able to state not only the problems ,but possible solutions or name someone in your press release who you feel can do a better job and why that person can do a better job then the chief who is currently there. It's time to admit Mr. Fulop is simply a politician who is trying to advance his career at the expense of others take the rose colored glasses off for just a second a maybe you'd see the release for what it truly is, and no I am not being sarcastic.

Steve Fulop calls for Chief Troy to resign, yet he offers no solution to the problem of crime. It kind of makes you wonder what Mr. Fulop is really looking for? If Mr. Fulop had offered any kind of solution or idea of how to go about curbing crime and violence I might have found some creditability to his statement, unfortunately it is abundantly clear the only true motive behind Mr.Fulops press release was his own personal aspirations for higher office, He does not have the best intrests of his constituents at heart that is crystal clear by his press release. By issuing his statement without solutions only demoralizes the whole police department and calls into question his motives behind the statement. If he had the best interests of his constituency at heart he would have researched possible solutions or ideas and put those ideas forward in his press release.Unfortunately, he chose not to which simply put indicates were his priorities lie.He is grandstanding inorder to advance his political career and those of his friends rather then having the best intrests of those who supported him, how very sad.
