I do not understand why they didn't time the placing of the planters better with the timing of when they would actually fill them up with plants. It is stupid to have those things sitting empty. It is Jersey City. Of course people are going to fill them up with garbage.

I asked the painters if they were going to fix the Grove Street clock and they laughed and said "yes." Although based on the way they looked at me, I am not sure if they understood English.

Why would a painter be fixing a clock?

ooh! ooh! I know this one!

I must have been hallucinating, but I believe I saw somebody get ticketed for running a stop sign tonight. AND the cops weren't dicks about it, but instead were very professional.

Re: Please stop the huge 9/11 memorial at LSP - it will ruin the park's views of the Manhattan skyline!

I was at LSP today with out-of-town friends, and we walked by the site of this memorial. They took one look at the plans (on that little sign) and said, unprompted, "who comes to a waterfront park to look at walls?! this is a terrible idea!"

I agree.

whether dealing with a traffic violation, a drunk, a group of teens hanging out or just a mom asking directions, I have never, not once, witnessed a Jersey City cop behave like anything other than a swaggering, loudmouthed bully with an enormous chip on his shoulder. (or *her* shoulder, as the female cops in this town have no class, either.)

meddling management-types demanding a process that's more labor-intensive and results in an inferior product? sounds like my old job in network television. sorry you also have to live that, Jogi. godspeed.

another asshat just blew through the stop sign at 1st and Erie, broadsiding a car. no major injuries, but the driver who got her door smashed in is really shaken-up.

this is an active corner, with Toricos and the deli and LOTS of kids and commuters walking around - not to mention police headquarters RIGHT THERE - and yet people blow through that stop sign repeatedly.

what's it going to take to make them stop?

Thank you, Mark, for calling. I did eventually get in touch with someone in repairs, and she did a factory reboot. Problem solved.

Verizon provides great service, once you get the right person on the phone. Wading through the automated voice-prompts requires the patience of a stone.

(Thanks for the tips on that front, too.)

was coming home at 11 last night, facing the sad prospect of a frozen pizza from Duane Reade.

thank heaven for the Mexican cart!

don't know which I loved more: the fish taco, the brisket taco, or the fact that neither came out of a microwave.

kudos to JC's best - and only - late night dining option.

sorry, FTF, but part of freedom of speech includes freedom to be THAT ridiculous. once we start picking and choosing who gets to say what, we're doomed.

this is outrageous. why is it up to you - the victim - to track down the surveillance videos and try to identify the car? why aren't the police doing this detective work?

the behind-the-terminal shortcut is just past the ferry entrance, which still takes you about 20 feet into the terminal, and into the sights of the pr!ck with the bullhorn. he shouted at me yesterday, and continued shouting long after I'd dismounted my bike, at which point he was no longer intimidating, just annoying.

there is a police car - with cop - idled at the corner of 1st and Erie. somebody just blew threw the 1st street stop sign, within feet of the cruiser's bumper, and kept on going. the police officer stayed put. number on the cruiser is 2973.

someone correct me if I'm mistaken, but I believe a 3am jackhammering situation would be due to some kind of emergency repair. I can't see this city paying overtime for any other reason.
