Re: Illegal apartment

What exactly is the definition of an illegal apartment?

Is there any relation between that and a neighbor renting out his 2 bedroom to multiple people while still living there? The people are changing constantly, and when he has been asked about them he says they are roommates (not paying rent) or family (never the same family member twice).

We're a small building and it gets a little creepy sometimes when a random guy comes into the laundry room or the front door, etc. Especially with the uptick of crime in downtown recently.

Half of American Self Storage's parking lot is under construction right now at the corner of Coles and 18th.
I asked what was being done and was told the gas pipeline.

Construction has definitely begun.

This is directly across from the new development Cast Iron Lofts that's "the first step in a new and exciting neighborhood coming to Downtown Jersey City, NJ". Quote from their website.

So frustrating that everyone is against it, doesn't benefit our city, and nothing can be done.

... please ask them to not put permanent stickers on all the lamp posts and other metal surfaces in Hamilton Park.

I understand fliers, magnets, etc advertising your company, but stickers that just don't come off is more like vandalism. I've noticed several people trying to pull them off without much luck.

I'll try sending them an email too. Just would like to keep the park looking nice.

It's also currently up for sale on Weichert for 1.15 million.
That picture is obviously supposed to go with the row house up for sale, not what the person purchased for $270k.

Cops don't have to abide by laws that they enforce?

Just can't stay away

Crossing Jersey Ave. on 8th St. towards Coles around 7:15pm tonight. I am crossing the road as a cop car is approaching the stop sign. I am already almost halfway across the road and instead of stopping or even slowing down, the cop decides to swerve around me and go through the stop sign. There was also a car on 8th getting ready to turn left onto Jersey.

Note... he does not have his lights on and is not driving fast enough to look like he was in a hurry, just didn't want to stop for me.

I yell at him and he slams on his brakes, rolls down the window and asks me what I said. There are 2 cops in the car.

I said he needs to watch for pedestrians and actually stop at the stop sign.

He says that he is in an emergency vehicle. I then tell him that he doesn't have his lights on. The other cop says that they don't have to have their lights on.

I then tell him that he is setting a horrible example for the rest of JC. And that this is why every other person driving in this city thinks its ok to not stop at stop signs.

The driver then proceeds to tell me that they enforce the laws and don't have to abide by them.

What?!?!?!

So in his eyes if he hit me, that's ok because he doesn't have to abide by the laws.

He then drove off down 8th. Again not in a hurry and not turning his lights on.

I'm just glad I wasn't with my daughter at the time, I'm sure they could care less about strollers too.

Does anyone know where I can report this where someone might actually listen and do something about it?

Really?!?
Wow this guy really cares doesn't he?
Its frustrating because I think most people only end up going there because its within walking distance.

Thanks i_love_toricos and croft for the recommendations.
I've heard a few good things about Westside now, so I think I'll be heading there.

Downtown Vet on 1st Street / Dr. Michael Tuder

Just can't stay away

We had a very weird experience at the the Downtown Vet on 1st Street this morning. Our dog is allergic to either the Rabies shot or Distemper (we don't know which one because both prior times they have been given at the same time). On Saturday, I took him in to get just the Distemper. Instead, they decided to do blood work (known as titers) to see if he already had the antibodies so that he didn't have to have the shot. Unfortunately, the vet forgot to mention that the bloodwork is three times as expensive as the shot. My wife is a newly stay at home mom, so every penny counts, so we opted for the shot since she would be at home and able to watch him for any reaction (We did this the previous time when Rabies and Distemper were given together, and they were fine with it). The vet said no problem and told us to bring him back today to get the shot.

We brought him back this morning to get the shot and were told they would only do the titers. After some question asking and some research into our bank account, we said to go ahead and do the titers. Then the director, Dr. Michael Tuder, decided we were being too much trouble and said they wouldn't perform anything. He nor the doctor came in to let me know this, they instead sent the office manager in to tell me this. And she wasn't able to answer why I was no longer able to get the titers. She instead just offered me my dog's records with a letter of other vets that I could go to.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? He also runs the Hoboken Animal Infirmary. Anyone else find it crazy that I can't ask questions without getting kicked out of the vet? Any recommendations for a new vet? We have a car, so it doesn't have to be within walking distance.
By the way, I have been going to this vet with my two dogs for 4 years now. I would think he would at least want to try and keep my business.
