Queen Latifah, used to live a block from me about 7 yrs ago or so. I saw her all the time dressed down in the neighborhood. I'm sure she has moved since.

I saw LL Cool J driving on Palisade Ave between Reservoir and Prospect, (He waved hello to me.)

Idris Elba lived in the same Condo I lived in about 7 years ago for about a year. He told me he was an actor from London, England but I had no idea who he really was until he moved out and became big here. (Really Nice guy and a good neighbor)

And my husband and I saw Ice T in that pet store on newark ave about 2 months ago. He was with some blonde sexy vixen who was clearly a Goldigger!!!

I have come to realize that crime exists everywhere in Jersey City even dowtown. Crime exists all over the United States, period. I've said this before it's all on how you carry yourself. Sometimes timing and where you are, can go against you, unfortunately.

I'd never want to be a victim of crime nor would I want that for anyone else. I've lived in the Heights for years with my family and we have never been victimized in any way, shape or form.

I feel safer living here than I ever did in NYC growing up in the late 60's, 70's, 80's. That's just me...

I disagree. I was just looking at kannekt.com last night and I saw some bad ones. Here are some examples:

Review - I bought a puppy from this store and part of the price I paid was for the microchip they told me was put in the dog. My vet assures me that they used a reader several times and there is no microchip in my dog.

Additionally, my puppy had kennel cough for upwards of 4 weeks (needed two treatments) and the parent company that's supposed to re-imburse you for costs associated with it still haven't paid me. It's been about 4 months and I called them and they said they would send it and still haven't (and they were extremely nasty on the telephone).

I love my dog but I certainly wouldn't get another dog from this store if for no other reason than the parent company is fraudulent and evasive.
(2007-06-13 )

Editor's rating of this review - 3/5

Review - Food is cheap, but lacks much flavor. They have a buffet style dining and if you order take out, chances are your food comes from the buffet---which I think sits out all day...so your food isn't too fresh. The person who took my phone order actually asked me if I wanted my food warmed! Restaurant is small, but accessible (right on Grove). Basically, you get what you pay for.
Food - 25/50 Customer Service - 30/50
Reviewed by - new2jc07 (2007-07-06 )

Review - The staff is loud and rude and does not spend adequate time with each client. The manicure was okay, the pedicure was unacceptable and the waxing atrocious! You sit in a small chair off to the corner--no laying down, no privacy. Went once and never returned.
Product or Service - 25/50 Customer Service - 10/50

JennyMayla, I had a teen work for me years ago when this whole thing started and I questioned him on how they were able to keep the t-shirts so clean and looking brand spanking new. He said to me that they buy lots of them. They wear them once or twice then throw them out. Crazy right?

I'm beyond disgusted with these thugs who think there tough who think that victimizing regular folks is kewl.

They'd never standup to someone who means real business.

They hide amongst their so called friends and think that they are the sh*t. I've seen the type. If alone they'd never even attempt to behave as such.

They are nothing but a bunch of punks and as far as the state of affairs with today's youth who engage in this type of behavior I can't express my disappointment and disgust.

These are the people that are supposed to take care of me when I retire. Hah, good luck on that one...

If you haven't I hope you're getting a refund since the work was never done. I can't understand how they could charge for a service that was never performed.
Them not allowing you to try the dress on was clearly a red flag, but sometimes we miss those things in our haste which is what happened here.
I cannot understand how a business can run and be successful when there is a clear lack of integrity in how you conduct yourselves judging from the other responses about this place.

What happened to the days where people showed accountability?
I cannot understand why one would allow a dog that's aggressive in close proximity to other dogs. That's just irresponsible, neglectful and stupid.
I am disgusted that this jerkoff didn't have the common decency to apologize. He had the audacity to yell when he was dead wrong.

It's unfortunate but this is going on across the board in America. I having worked in retail management in my previous life and have gotten a number of calls from friends and past colleagues of which several have been laid off. I know of 5 Mgrs in one particular Department Store who have gotten laid off in the past 2 months.
These individuals are of diverse backgrounds but well-paid and so I don't believe that the effects of the recession is limited to the Indian Community...

JacksonB it's up to to decide whether or not you want to move to the Heights.

My 17 year experience since I've moved here has been mostly positive and I recommend it.

I left NYC in order to get away from the tremendous amount of people, price of living, crime, etc. I have never looked back and realize that crime goes on everywhere.

It's all on how you carry yourself, no matter where you live.
If you carry yourself like a victim, you will be.

No where is 100% crime proof in America.

I'm actually surprised when I hear about the level of crime in other areas of Jersey City. At times I feel like I'm living in a bubble...

I'm a transplanted New Yorker and a female who lives pretty close to Ogden and I would say the area is pretty safe and a nice area to live. I used to sometimes arrive home at midnight from work and never felt a need to worry when I walked home from the bus stop. Transportation is pretty good as there are several ways to get around.
And just as someone said earlier the further north and west you go the better it gets. I also find the standard of living to be pretty reasonable.
As far as parking my husband has always had a garage or a parking space. There was a short period of time when he had to park on the street but It didn't seem to be a big issue plus parking in NYC was always a nightmare in comparison. He did always found something within 10 minutes, even if it was a block away however I do reccommend that you put the club on your car and have an alarm system.
You just never know.
I like the diversity of the area. Reminds me of NewYork in that respect. I moved here in 1991 and here I still am. My husband and I considered moving to other places in Jersey but in the end have decided we love living here...

Re: Cops grab alleged accomplice in Heights bodega murder -- Family cheers arrest, wishes it was killer

I'm way off topic here, but find myself annoyed each and every time the word "Bodega" is used in the news. Bodega translated to english simply means, a small grocery store, deli, convenience store, sometimes combined with a wineshop, in certain Hispanic neighborhoods.
The word has long since developed a negative connotation in the news media because that word is used to let everyone know that:

1. A crime occurred.
2. It was in a hispanic neighborhood.
3. It was in a crime-ridden neighborhood
4. The owner was definitely hispanic.

Certainly what occurred here is terrible and tragic and I can't begin to imagine what the family of Mrs. Claros must be going through.

It isn't bad enough that a crime occurred and that somehow someone got hurt, robbed, killed, etc.
Now let's inform the public where this thing happened by using the word Bodega each and every time.

There are plenty of Grocery Stores in the United States in Hispanic Communities where these types of things never ever happen at all...

It's disappointing to see that others do not conduct themselves with professionalism or just the sense of what's the right thing to do. Perhaps New Jersey should follow New York's lead and increase the fine for not picking up dog poop by $100.00.

They actually don't allow any boats there at all, It's just too small but my husband and I frequent the 7 lakes in New York State which is actually not too far. It's really beautiful and the fishing is great there. We have a small 12" boat. Of course we actually had to go and get licenses for NY as well which was about $40.00 each.
We do keep hearing about Lake Tamarack in Bergen County and plan on going there within the next week or 2. I'm not too sure how things work there yet but I'll be sure to let you know unless you get there 1st.

Brewster, The Reservoir is catch and release as far as I know. I'd never break a rule or the law as far as that.
As far as North Hudson Park, you can only take certain fish such as perch or trout that's at least 15".
Bass are catch and release there. The rules are very strict and I always abide by them.

They also stock the lake there on a every 2 week basis and we often catch and release. On occassion we will take 2 to 4 perch home and once I caught a brown trout and rainbow trout which I released because they were undersized. I agree with you when it comes to the kids as I have 3 sons of my own.
