I truly doubt that the college/youth population vote in local politics. I would venture to guess that a lot of them don't even know who the mayor of Hoboken is.

agreed.
I doubt that even 10% of the post college crowd are registered there.

My guess is that the real party will still be on the weekend.

Having the parade on Wed allows parents, children and people that don't want to get puked or pissed on avoid the drunks.
It also gives the "impression" that the city gives a $hit about the familes while still allowing businesses and bars to gouge patrons on Saturday.

most likely, no. Cops pay into a fund or pool that gets tapped if they need representation. Not sure if it's thorugh union or PBA.

For a simple wing fix, I go to Luckys.

As for cluck u, order from the hoboken location. The JC one is hit or miss and I've given up on them.
If you're looking for smaller wings, they might not fit your bill as they're a little on the larger side. I go there for the variety of sauces as well as other items on the menu.

Look people, you don't expect CRIMES happening in this part of the area like Paulus Hook when a good radius is occupied by expensive row houses and luxury highrises. Why must sketchy people who live in Montgomery Projects and beyond come down here and cause crimes? It shouldn't be. To vilify or poke fun at mercyme is uncalled for. We pay sky high rent in the area. Realtors try to lure people like me into buying because the neighborhood is high class and SAFE. HA! what a joke. You don't see this type of crime in Tribeca and BPC it shouldn't be as well in Paulus Hook. The projects up the hill will always infiltrate the waterfront and Paulus Hook section. Unsuspected buyers get suckered into buying with hefty mortgage here. Buyers need to know that crimes from neighboring area come down here and mess the place. Buyers beware. Renters need to look elsewhere for your money's worth.

Open an account or give them some regular business and I believe that you'll be satisfied with the service. No business owner can be successful by just accommaodating every one who walks in off the street and asks you to perform a service for free, especially in Jersey City. Put yourself in the other person's shoes!

If Fedex's website, on the page I'm filling in to print out a label, directs me to drop off the package there, clearly accepting said packages is part of his contract with them. It's not that I'm expecting him to do it altruistically out of the blue. He's refusing to do what he obviously contractually agreed to when he became an official Fedex affiliate. This hurts customers like me not only because he refuses to take the packages, but from Fedex's point of view, they have no reason to open another full service branch in the area if they believe he has it covered because it's in his contract.

Exactly.

I've been going to postnet for 10 years and agreed with all the positive comments here. I always had great service and a nice conversation while I was there, so I was skeptical when I first heard about turning away packages. I offered all the same apologies and excuses but unfortunately I cannot ignore that fact anymore.

I've heard they dislike it when you use them as a "drop off" when you have a pre-paid label or use your own account.

I'm not saying that the chicken bone droppers aren't at fault but I bet irresponsible dog owners with those retractable leashes are mostly the ones complaining.

It's simple, keep your dog on a short lead and don't let it near anything you don't want it to touch/eat.

Actually, yes, it was a sign of the end of civilization when they started to lock Catholic churches (or at least that was how it was percieved by the citizens at the time). My family hightailed it "down the shore" in the great exodus in the late 1950, but grandma stayed on Kennsington Avenue in St. Aloysius parish. Visiting her was always an adventure. It must have been like 1973 when the church had been robbed of some of its precious art and the poor box broken into that the church was locked. This struck a deep cord. Crime had been rising since the late sixties and the city's sense of self was at risk. Churches remained a sanctuary, seemingly protected by the collective and by a palable taboo. When these were violated without any consequence for the violator the santuary was no more. Even the holy of holies was not immune. The psychological impact on these densely Catholic neighborhoods was palpable. Prior to that, the church was the home of the entire neighborhood who would go to the Tabernacle at any time, yes at 2:00 am, or 3:00 PM, to thank God, to implore God, to praise God. I remember a story of a friend's mother who was widowed when he was an infant. They would find his mother prostrate before the altar of St. Michael's at all hours because that was the only place she could find solace for the first years of her widowhood.

I remember the similiar situation growing up in Atlantic City. There were a few churches that held out through the early 80's but not much longer after that.

Got me. I can only guess that it's location, location, location. There must be a certain hard core of people out there who are simply too lazy and/or ignorant to wander more than a block from the PATH for much better food. That and the fact that their taste buds must be completely dead.

Surely you jest.
Only way that would happen is if they paid for a detail just like nightclubs and construction sites and I don't think a small cinema has that kinda money.

Don't get me wrong, 2 screens would be cool. At the moment, I can't think of anything that would fit there.

Why do you think it would be run over? I think it could do more business then what is there currently, considering I've never seen more than a handful of people in that huge store. And not sure what you meant by "young professionals you are dreaming about". On a friday or saturday night, people in the area would be much more inclined to do "dinner and a movie" if they can walk to it, rather then goto the Mall.

When I think of a commercial 2 screen theater in a busy downtown section, I imagine kids ages 11-17 hanging around all night. It's just what happens. You wanna walk down that side walk on a Fri or Sat night with it looking like every highschool in JC just let out? You think these people clamoring for JC to look "more like Hoboken" will frequent that type of scene?

In a perfect world, we could walk there and enjoy a big budget flick without people yelling at the screen or talking loudly on their phones...or an indy/limited release and afterwards saunter across the street to Skinners for a night cap but it just isn't going to happen.
