Sorry about the erroneous post earlier. If you're caught by a red-light camera, there are no points. If you were stopped by a cop, it would be two points. I don't even think your insurance company will know about it if you just pay the ticket.

You'll be getting two points on your license, and a hike on your insurance.

So why can't the MTA and the PA get their shit together and allow the unlimited card to share both states? Oh yeah....it's a screw job. I forgot.

The only thing I saw that was appealing was their salad bar. Other than that, their drink selection was standard and the hot food looked like it had been sitting out too long. I walked in, looked around, and walked out. I may go back to try their salad, because it was the only thing that looked fresh. Granted, they just opened, so it takes a little time to iron out any issues.

There are over 4,000,000 NRA members. Just for a comparative, there are about 2,500,000 members of all combined branches of the US military including the Coast Guard and Reserves. I don't think they're having any trouble.

The less plastic that ends up in the ground and on the streets will better our lives and the generations after us. I just wish there were better alternatives to plastic garbage bags. Think about all the plastic that generates and ends up in the earth! I know they have biodegradable ones, but they end up falling apart while they're still in the trash can and you might as well not use them at all.

JC doesn't need a music scene when one of the greatest music scenes in the world is 5 minutes away. As are the museums. The fact that they're not located here doesn't really mean anything. Easy access to NYC is one of the benefits of JC.

Exactly, part of the set of benefits of where a person lives is what they have access to ... and not just WITHIN the limits of the town or city they live in. For somebody who lives in downtown JC, they have very easy access to more art, music, and anything else than probably any other market in the US.

This was a comparison solely between the cities of Rochester, NY and Jersey City, NJ. Not Rochester, NY and New York, NY.

New York, NY has everything you need, and it's great that we have easy access to New York City, but when comparing the two cities themselves...Jersey City loses. If we keep acting like we are somehow a part of New York City this town will always live in it's shadow.

Stillinjc,

I'm not sure where you're staying in Rochester, but check out Dinosaur BBQ while you're there.

Count me into the group that's confused by why TJ's doesn't come here. I think they would do so well if placed in a walkable area.

Tommy,

I'm surprised I'm the first person who you've heard say something positive about Rochester. I guess you don't know too many people who have actually spent some time there (yourself included). If there's any confusion, I have wanted TJ's to come here for a long time. I've visited their website and emailed them several times begging them to set up shop in Jersey City, and I recommend you do the same (although I've really become cynical about the whole thing). If everyone else who wants Trader Joe's here emailed them, MAYBE it would get some of their attention.

I didn't say it wasn't a nice place, I said it was economically hurting, Kodak is gone, baby, gone. One reason it's nice is the century of generous Kodak largess on the town. They just don't have the hundreds of thousands of commuters, from bond traders to janitors, sucking on the NYC tit and bringing it back home to spend.

Kodak is gone, but I'll tell you something. Rochester, and the people of that city have survived and continue to thrive. Like I mentioned before, the quality of life there is much higher than it is in JC.

-Restaurants and food markets that would make any JC resident jealous
-Secondary schools that are well-placed in the various national rankings
-Vibrant cultural scene, particularly music with their annual jazz fest every year (I know, Groove on Grove is great and all lol)
-Dozens of colleges and universities in the area
-Great weather in the summer and a real winter which the municipalities are well-prepared to handle
-Very short commuting times and very inexpensive cost of living (15% below the national average)

I commend you for sticking up for JC, but like I said before, it doesn't even touch Rochester, NY and that's a fact.

Oh, and before you pull the whole race card and blame racism for all of life's problems, I just want to point out that according to the 2010 Census, the city's population was 43.7% White, 41.7% Black in Rochester. That's a 2% difference compared to Jersey City's 6.82% difference with a 32.67% (80,885) White, 25.85% (64,002) Black population. I guess that theory doesn't pan out now does it?

I say BS. Freaking CLEVELAND has 2 TJ's! They're building one in Rochester too, neither city has anything on JC & Hudson County in terms of upscale consumers, they're dying rustbelt burgs. They have 5 stores in the twin cities. As I looked at the map of their stores, it really does start to look like racial redlining in addition to economic. They've got stores in working class white areas but not minority.

Have you ever been to Rochester? It's head and shoulders above this city, and it kicks this city's ass all over the place. I can't say the weather in Rochester is better, but Jersey City is a shithole compared to Rochester, plain and simple. The quality of life even with the shitty weather is WAY better than it is here. People "ooooo" and "ahhh" over a freaking Key Foods here. It's pathetic. You really need to wonder why Trader Joe's or Whole Foods never invested here?

Good luck to the new Key Foods.

While I completely agree with you that the whole $10 minimum thing sucks, it is actually completely legal as of 2010. A coalition of small business and retail organizations got together and asked Congress to make it a law to protect their decision to make minimum required amounts for transactions. They're protected under the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act that was passed in July of 2010. It totally sucks.

So you're bitter that your application to wait tables was denied, and now you're on a public forum ranting like a maniac about it? It's not your business that's on the line, and it's up to the owners who they deem an appropriate fit for their newly ventured business. Going on a public forum to talk poorly about the owners because of your personal difficulties with them makes you look like a horses ass.

Jersey City is missing QUALITY above everything else, but if you're talking in terms of a kind of restaurant, my wish is to see an izakaya style Japanese restaurant open up (probably about the same time Trader Joes and Whole Foods arrive lol), but in the meantime we have about six mediocre-at-best sushi restaurants in the area, and knowing Jersey City they will all thrive because they are good enough, and sushi is authentic enough for Jersey City. Whatever you are intending to open, all I ask is that you serve quality food. If you can do that you'll be head and shoulders above everyone else, because mediocrity truly reigns in this city.
