A canard. If the other groups who would share in the benefits of the tunnel, NY and the Feds, would have agreed to equally share the inevitable cost overruns (see the Boston Big Dig), then the deal would've been done.

They refused, and Christie, rightfully, pulled the plug on what would have cost NJ taxpayers untold BILLIONS of dollars while NY and the region reaped the benefits of the project.

It's been over a year since much news about the last investigation-while the child sex allegations may have been fishing, the time he spent lobbying for the Florida/Dominican doctor (the one who evaded $8 million in taxes) is still under a cloud. (You remember, the guy who sends his private plane to ferry Menendez around.) Things sure don't seem to speed too fast when it's a Democratic NJ Senator under investigation it seems. And why Charlie Rangel is still in office is a disgrace.

But we need to as why a NJ Senator is spending any time for two fugitives from another country who aren't even NJ residents. Isn't any time spent doing that taking away from the people who he represents?

And now we find out the Hudson County Democrats are sitting on a pile of Sandy recovery money (can't place this on Christie) but also that Zimmer has a prior history of saying she's been pressured politically-this time by Democrat Union City mayor Stack along with Democrat Bayonne mayor Smith.

No wonder she's lawyered up.

Except there hasn't been a single shred of evidence connecting Christie to the local lane ramp shutdown. Of course, the Mrs. Clinton SuperPac, when asked what they'd think if no evidence is found to connect him to the closure, replied 'well, it happened under his watch.'

Re:Benghazi and Mrs. Clinton that was a great comment as well.

Except no one died in Ft Lee, except the 91 year old woman who's family said she was dead already when the ambulance arrived and don't hold Christie accountable at all.

Have we seen any subpoena's yet for Mrs. Clinton and her staff?

Finally, talk about political payback. Menendez won't pull his Iranian sanction bill, and Obama is PISSED. Ergo, another FBI probe this week into Menendez.

What curious timing! I'm shocked, shocked!

No, Benghazi will suffice. While candidate Christie took all questions in a 2 hour press conference, Sec of State Mrs. Clinton had the mysterious 'concussion' of unknown origin, lol.

I think playing her famous '08 'who do you want answering the phone at 2AM' ad over and over images of the burning Benghazi compound will work pretty well. Well, work pretty well against a few orange cones and (another) traffic jam.

If we are going to talk about Zimmer having her lawyer paid for by Hoboken taxpayers, you have to mention that Christie retained one of the most expensive law firms in the country to represent him for Bridgegate, and declined comment when asked who is paying for his lawyers.

Who do you think is paying for these high priced attorneys?

Did the fact that Zimmer isn't under several different probes that may require representation escape you?

(At least not yet . . .).

Of course, the NYTimes Magazine section, in a giant cover story on Mrs. Clinton, mentions Libya and/or Benghazi-not once. Weeks after the bi-partisan Senate Intelligence Committee report says the attack, under her watch, was preventable, natch.

They've made passes west of Liberty State Park; I wasn't alarmed because I read somewhere (can't remember where) that they'd be doing this. Even without the pre knowledge, I'd expect something like this leading up to the game.

On the other hand, how about Snowgate? Will DiBlasio be investigated for not plowing the Upper East Side-which he admitted after 36 hours of denials? Who gave the order to not plow or salt? Let's see the emails! Subpoena the text messages! Tale of Two Cities coming home to roost, lol. Traffic jams galore! Emergency vehicles unable to get through! Buses stuck for hours! In no way am I a defender of anything the Port Authority does, but NY State wanted all that toll revenue for themselves. And as I recall some in NY wanted the PA to get involved with the new bridge to pay for it this go around.

Pebble, I don't oppose public education, I just want accountability and performance for the dollars spent. Mandating preK, which has proven to be worthless by the time kids make it to middle school, wastes millions and millions of dollars, for example.

I wish the Legislature would get behind your thoughts on double dipping, which makes me nuts as well. Sadly, they will never send such a bill for Christie to sign. Somehow I don't see Loretta Weinberg getting behind it either. She's more interested in researching a traffic jam than doing something that's fiscally responsible.

As truthful a statement as 'if you like your healthcare you can keep your healthcare'.

Not a single Republican voted for this turd-gee, did they get to see it develop on C-Span as Obama promised? Did they participate in the buy offs of Mary Landrieu, the Dakota's, the union deals, to get this turd passed?

So Obama and the Democrats got everything they wanted, and they OWN it. It's also why every Democrat who's up for election is staying as far away from Obama as possible.

Yes, let's.

Let's pretend that will fix everything.

Its not suppose to fix anything, but rather highlight GOOD or BAD governance with the administration - I'm betting Christie's administration is compounding the financial problem of the State ... especially when you have a Governor willing to flex his muscle on non compliance to HIS agenda!

Except thousands and thousands of emails and texts to and fro his office have been examined and ZERO connection has been uncovered.

So if you're the sort who thinks that Obama found out about the IRS by reading the paper and had no knowledge what his staff were doing, or Mrs. Clinton about Benghazi, then if you're intellectually honest you must believe Christie under the same conditions.

Of course, we haven't had a two hour press conference where either the POTUS or Sec of State has answered unlimited questions about their roles in either scandal, so Christie is ahead on points as well.

Add back in the money wasted on the Abbott school districts (billions of dollars a year since 1985) with little or no results and we'd have a surplus.

Way to go, activist NJ Supreme Court.

Trying to pin decades of wasteful spending on the one Governor who's trying to straighten things out is both amusing and futile.

Pebble, yes, on average NJ schools are great-which only shows how much worse the inner city schools are. It's a simple idea to grasp. It's also why you don't see general charter schools opening up in the burbs (although you will see some applied for, like the Chinese immersion schools proposed in western Essex County that were shot down).

The difference isn't in the numbers, but that other countries doesn't use it as an excuse for failure, as you and others seem to do.

http://www.broadprize.org/crisis/bureaucracy.html expresses it well...

31. Teachers expect less of students with certain backgrounds, income levels or other family variables and don?t challenge them as much, which means those students never have the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Blame the single moms, blame ethnicity, blame wasteful spending, blame overpaid teachers, blame bad parents, whatever - then support extra hours that addresses none of the real problems...

Seriously - have a read of the link above and tell us how longer hours would help address any of these issues?

Is your point to now blame the teachers for the achievement gap because they don't challenge the students enough?

The people that are using the teachers salaries and benefits as a reason to believe that extending the school day and year is the right thing to do are illogical and inane to say the least. If people are so concerned with Teachers salaries and benefits , leave your current job and go back to school and get the necessary degree to become a teacher!! It's time people start worrying about themselves and their pay/benefits and not worry about others salaries/benefits. I am not a Teacher, nor do I have any desire to be one. Like I previously stated however I am a parent of two kids that although they go to Catholic School( It follows the Public School district schedule with the exception of Religious Holidays) My children (5 and 7 yrs old) already are in School for 7 hrs a day and are exhausted by the time they get home. And that doesn't include Homework!!! I would implore all those that are in favor of extending the school day and school year to please supply examples of how that would BENEFIT THE STUDENT!!!( notice I said STUDENT!!! again lets not concern ourselves with teachers salaries and benefits because it is the STUDENTS who are supposed to benefit!!!! Now of course I am sure people will still interject the teachers salary and benefits into this debate, which would just prove that you have no real interest in the students just pure envy... Remember most adults work 8hr days and more then likely that last hr is spent watching the clock, but you think a student will somehow benefit, again please provide examples.............I am raising a Child not a robot and part of growing up is being able to experience childhood not be in school for longer then they already are .....

I agree, this thread was hijacked-my point is that Christie is looking for solutions that will (mostly) benefit those students in need. The majority of school districts do well, the poorest ones, despite bottomless funding over the years, continue to fail.

That's the problem that needs solving. Charter schools have been one effort.

And re:teachers and the new ideas, any solution will be the result of collective bargaining and legislative action to figure out funding, so it will be mutually agreed upon by all the stake holders-as was tenure reform recently. Most likely it will be a similar bi-partisan agreement, where not everyone gets 100% of what they wanted but all agree to carry the process forward-because it's all about the children in the end.

As far as people getting into teaching, each elementary school opening in my hometown has had over 500 applicants . . .

So, Pebble, a teacher paying $900 towards a policy valued at $22K is quite different than the average joe paying $4,000 towards a $14K policy. (And the $900 number I found was from 2011). Advantage, in a big way, to the teachers.

(These are family plans, btw. Not sure of your status, but it sounds like a great deal. Enjoy it, because once the Obamacare corporate mandate arrives you'll be paying a lot more).

"The average family". You are, once again, not comparing teachers to their peers.

You also didn't answer my question. Why aren't you a teacher? If the job is so cushy, why aren't you doing it?

I don't answer 'when did you stop beating your wife' type questions, lol.

Suffice it to say I've enjoyed two wonderful careers, very successful in two diverse types of work, with national and international recognition and achievement. This has allowed me to afford the property taxes (I'm a part time JC resident, as I've said) in a town with the best school system in the state. And for me it's not a 'job' when you love it, so I've never wanted 13 weeks free per year anyway.

When we all meet up for drinks we can talk further, is that still on for the new year?
