solutions to basement flooding

has anyone found any solutions to basement flooding? with the torrential rains, the sump pump could not keep the basement dry and then sewage came in from the street, even with a backflow preventer.

the incompetent jcmua keeps saying they don't have the money to replace the existing combined sewer.

Re: Jersey City School Superintendent takes heat on 'obscene' compensation and five-star London trip

I guess many o you readers haven't been to London so you don't realize that ondon is a lot more expensive than Manhattan. $500 per night for a hotel room in Lodon is simply not extravagant. Also, anyone who knows London also knows that getting around is difficult, so the money spent on the limosine is not that outrageous.

Don't waste your time calling your council person. "Give it away" Healy is simply a LIAR and an incompetent mayor. Hopefully, in the next election, Healy will be voted out.

I don't have a problem paying higher taxes. I agree that they need to rise. My object to Healy because despite strong demand for real estate along the waterfront he has continued to give out abatements to waterfront development depsite his campaign promises. The man seems to be a liar and an incompetent.

Thanks Mayor Healy for managing the City's budget so ineffectively. If you weren't so buys giving out tax abatements on prime property, maybe our taxes would only be going up 10% or 15%.

Given your lack of leadership, I can guess I'd better prepare for another 20% hike in 2007.

Re: JC Abbott School Program to Lose 6M from State - taxpayers to bear larger share.

I agree and think that maybe the state should just eliminate Abbot funding for municipalities that randomly hand out tax abatements in prime locations.

Why can't they just renovate Stop & Shop in the Heights

I totally agree that the Schools Construction Corp. should condemn and take over that site that Stop & Shop wants to build on. Why can't they just renovate the existing Stop & Shop.

The light rail is fantastic!

I took it to tonnelle Avenue yesterday and I was surpsried at the number of peolple taking it. I think they should expand it further and add more stops for people who live nearby in order to make sit easier for them. I'm thinking of near the Holland tunnel area [in no man's land] and near pacific Avenue near that new development [which looks nice, btw].

Also, i think they should expand it to elizabeth so that it eventually links up with the newark-elizabeth light rail and the plane.

Why are so many police officers directing traffic
Home away from home

I think it's an utter waste of money to have police officers directing traffic near the major construction sites. This is work that could easily be done by crossing guards. The officers, I feel, should be patrolling the streets at night.

I think GS made a commitment to Nj, in exchange for economic development funds, to have a certain number of employees in their 30 hudson street building for a certain period of time...i think it's 20 years.

I call on Mayor Healy to resign. The Democratic machine
Home away from home

needs to be destroyed; the current group of Democrats in office are just as corrupt as the republicans and are just as much in bed with the developers as the Republicans. Crime is clearly out of hand. Yet, despite campaign promises, Healy continues handing out tax abatements on prime property yet he raises the taxes for everyone else.

I went to a showing and the apartments are amazing. I'm wondering if I should buy there, but then the walk to PATH is rather long compared to a 2-minute schelp that I now have.

Consider installing an overhead sewer line
