Re: North Bergen man beaten, robbed by thugs on Jersey City Heights streetcorner

Christie can earn my future vote by signing laws that would thugs like this away for life - these people can't be rehabilitated! or most can't. especially if they can't read, write or speak decent English.

I agree that municipal consolidation is sorely needed. but you know what it aiin't gonna happen and why?

because those same people who complalin about sky high property taxes want their children in small school districts, etc.

I would mind a youth center as long as the center made sure that the youth went home after the center closed and didn't vandalize my property, create havoc, rob people or make too much noise.

Those searches are a complete waste..just like those three stuopid questions they ask at the airport as if someone with evil-intent can't lie. If someone with malicious intentions really wanted to rid the PATH, they could easily circumvent the searches.

I think this is just a way for the cops to get overtime!

Re: Property Taxes will increase as Jersey City introduces $507 Million budget
Home away from home
Home away from home

everyone always says spending is the problem. if spending was so easy to trim, why is it that Republican governors have never really done that much about it. Plus we are in a recession and everyone should know that during recessions tax revenue falls, and it rises with an economic expansion.

The problem is the government tries to cut taxes to the bone during economic expansions,a nd then when recessions hit....

People so easily scream cut this and cut that. I think what is truly needed is a more rational approach by the state to revenue raising. Why is NJ' sales tax, gas txa and cigarette tax so much lower than NY's.

I don't think it is as easy as people say to trim state and municipal workforce. I think we need more teachers, firemen and ploce officers

Re: Jersey City's schools again do poorly on tests; Bayonne's do well

I am not shocked. I think it is kids from social-economic groups that are failing and the sad thing is that their parents are too stupid or mean to care about their child's education..yet people blame the teachers/schools if certain kids don't want to learn.

Maybe society should take a much harsher attitude to parents who have children who fail in school.

I see an ad from Coca Cola in today's Wall Street Journal toting its sponsorship of the rails-to-trails program which helps convert rail tracks into bicycle tracks/outdoor trails. Someone might want to contact this org and see what they can do for Jersey City.

I believe there is a bus that goes local from Ikea to Journal Square. You can also take the ferry to Pier 11 and then take the Ikea water shuttle to the Ikea in Brooklyn which is faster I believe and probably more convenient if you live along the waterfront

I think the most reliable solution would be to take PATH to Penn Station, then take LIRR to jamaica station and then take the AirTrain. I am always surprised at how quick and reliable this is. No hassles, no traffic, no subway breakdowns, cheaper!

The state should be confined to issuing civil union certificates for all couples, and then letting the churches perform marriages if they want to. So one could have a Catholic marriage or a [monogamous] Muslim wedding

Holding tanks, pumping stations for flood prevention

Has the City or the JMUA done anything to remedy the flooding downtown? I believe NYC is building massive holding tanks so that it can be certain to treat the water.

Has the Loew's considered teaming up/seeking help/donations from the Home Depot or Lowe's for the restoration work - seems like this would be a great tie-in for either
