Re: its official: entire heights must buy resident parking permit

The idea for zone 16 parking in all of the Heights was to open up parking for local residents, I don't see the advantage yet. I think the main objective is to deter the temptation by having signage up. The idea for four hours instead of two is so local residents can shop on Central Ave or visit with friends or relatives. Ward E is toying with a similar idea but with only three hours. The parking Division being a 24 / 7 operation should be able to ticket as they patrol and not depend on just the signs to deter people from taking up valuable real estate. I would say only allow visitors to park on one side of the street and also have one uniform zone for the entire city that would be a true gesture towards their residents as opposed to a segregated parking society that we have now.

I haven't seen anything saying the BLVD has been zoned.

The side streets around me has seen some enforcement . Maybe once a day someone comes around checking.

Three streets which are county roads are not part of the zone, Kennedy Blvd, Secaucus Rd., and Paterson Plank Rd.

Here we go again.
The municipality allows wealthy corporate interests to disrupt the lives of ordinary people and other people step up to offer solutions that will infringe on rights that they had (free, available parking) prior to these disruptions.

Why should people offer costly solutions to problems that the administration creates?--doesn't make sense.

Sometimes these edicts are necessary due to over crowding and the monopoly of our curbside real estate. I think the next step should be to eliminate zoned parking with the numbered zones and replaced with uniformed single zone system throughout the entire city except for special zones such as schools and resident only areas. Then implement two types of zone parking stickers, one for homeowners and the other for tenants. The tenants would pay a monthly fee as opposed to the property tax payer who would continue to pay an annual fee. Then provide visitor passes at a cost for those out of the area.

Correct, you pay a PATH fare at Exchange Place to get the round-trip ferry ticket, and on the way back, you don't pay another PATH fare.

I assume you can still buy single ferry tickets (more expensive than PATH fares) or use your monthly pass.

So for the price of a single PATH fare you get a round trip ferry ticket ?

That's really not a lot of money these days. If it were the rent would be half the price. Most people renting there make the average of 75k annually.

When does this resident permit become effective? Are all streets included in this permit? Earlier a few streets didn't require a permit.

Yes, from Tonnelle Ave. to Ogden Ave and from the St. Hwy. (139) to both city borders. It was supposed to have taken affect in May but there is a delay with signage, and deciding whether is should be 24 hours of only up till 11 pm.

Any complaint should be valid enough to be concerned about, there must be some credibility to it because why would anyone make up an incident. Obviously with complaints / concerns there I room for improvement.

You have NO IDEA what you are talking about, but that has already been established! Ratable or abatement, it is still money to the city. Whatever money the city gets from an abatement, it represents actual "income" which means the city needs to raise less money via regular taxation.

And, of course, there is that little pesky fact you choose to ignore: the abatement payments actually add more money to the city coffers than if the property in question was paying regular taxes. Why don't we talk about that??

I would love to hear the rebuttal on this. Either Yvonne is right or you are bod. Can't wait for the finally.

Gotta love JCL sometimes.

Why would anybody think a rap concert would start on time @ 8:30? I am sure the producers knew that... an hour late is being very accomodating to a rap audience on a hot night.

I saw Lavarro twitter live.. it wasn't a video of the longest soundcheck ever but it was pretty apparent he was late. Jersey City should be thankful he even showed up.

Because he got paid $100k that's way. And it was a national event with mass crowds where we cannot afford that type of lax security. How dare J.C. allow this to occur !

This is also a problem for cancer patients.

I don't think the ban will affect farmers markets, fruit and vegetable stores, or the produce isles.

I don't think there is a fire down there it is probably because there is a firehouse on Brunswick St. and Newark Ave. which is right near there and easy to reach the Newark Ave. fire.

Easy peasy. Let JC tax its residents to support such computer literacy programs as Princeton and Millburn do. Not only do Princeton and Millburn pay almost 90% of their own school costs, they do so at a far cheaper cost per student than JC, Asbury Park, East Orange/Orange, Camden, and similar schools. Just having JC taxpayers paying their fair share would free up a couple HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS a year to pay for such programs. Why do JC taxpayers refuse to support their own children, that's the question you should answer.

Most of the tax payers do not have children in the schools it is the residents paying rent that do.
