Interesting, though a small and possibly idiosyncratic situation. Maybe the novelty of the angle parking there (it's a somewhat uncommon sight in JC) had been calming traffic despite the wide car right-of-way? Dunno.

The service, while very friendly, was indeed so clueless on my recent visit that it gave my friend and I time to read the Yelp reviews aloud and chuckle at their accuracy.
She had a burger that she said was just OK, though I liked the fries I stole. I gotta say, though, I had the stuffed mussels with mild chorizo and big chunks of garlic in the stuffing, and it was REALLY good, and different, and interesting. I also had the pulled pork sliders. The buns, while very nice in and of themselves, to me overwhelmed the filling, so I kinda ate around them. But the pork was also VERY good, and different, and interesting.

Bike JC is planning to offer our free bike valet parking service tomorrow at Exchange Place, throughout the festival and fireworks.
Do what you like; we?ll watch your bike! No lock needed. Not exactly sure where we will be yet, but we will have a white Bike JC tent and an enclosure to park the bikes in. Much better than driving!

Grove Street Bicycles should be able to help you.
They're currently in a temporary (but very cool) space at 163-165 Newark Ave. The entrance is actually on Barrow Street, alongside Barcade.

From Bike JC:
PLEASE NOTE: For the first time, this year?s Ward Tour & Festival is officially a rain-or-shine event. We?ve realized it?s just too big and complex to organize it twice, and we can?t get permits twice, get a police escort twice, etc., for a rain date. So we will ride June 4 even if it?s raining, in any weather that?s not dangerous, or simply cancel till next year for any that is (e.g. lightning, hail, very high winds, plague of frogs ?). There will be no refunds, because it?s free! But as we?ve mentioned elsewhere, if you give us the suggested $5 donation (or $5 million or whatever), those are non-refundable. And thank you!!

i agree that art by a committee, or art with rigid veto control by a group of ignorant cranks, is indeed a very bad idea. Public, taxpayer-funded art having some oversight by a committee composed mainly of artists, curators, and others with knowledge and experience with art, I think is probably good. The city just started an oversight committee like that for the murals, and I am hoping they?ll bring a variety of perspectives to the table while still allowing for individual artists to express themselves.

Tip: You need to bring your own bike to the Tour; Bike JC doesn't rent or lend them out.
Grove Street Bikes has appropriate bikes to rent, and the other 3 shops in Jersey City may also, but you should reserve them soon, because demand gets very high before the Tour. Citi Bike JC made its blue bikes available with an 3-hour time limit last year; still confirming that for this year but that might be another option.

Registration opens soon! Much more info from the Bike JC event page on Facebook below. The only big change from last year is that the finish line and festival will be the Newark Avenue Pedestrian Plaza:
>> COME RIDE ALL OVER THIS TOWN WITH US! Bike JC?s 8th Annual Jersey City Ward Tour will roll Sunday, June 4, taking you (and probably over 2,000 of our closest friends) on a 15-mile tour of our great city, and passing through all of its political wards. This year we?re making some exciting changes for our growing tour: We?ll leave from City Hall in the morning as we did last year, but the tour will end at the bike-friendly Newark Avenue Pedestrian Plaza, where you can enjoy our equally great Finish-Line Festival all afternoon, featuring live music, food and drinks, and local community groups. Registration is free, with a suggested donation of $5 to aid our year-round efforts to improve, promote, and teach safe and fun cycling in Jersey City. REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED and will open soon online. We?ll announce it right here in this event post, and in about a dozen other ways. (Please note that, while we?d also LOVE you to click ?Going? on this Facebook event page, to show everyone how huge this is going to be, that does NOT register you for the tour.) More About the Ride This year, like last year, the Tour will leave from Montgomery Street at Grove Street, right next to City Hall (280 Grove St.), and follow a route similar to last year?s, making a clockwise loop around the whole city back to Downtown. (We?ll post a map and a list of major streets shortly.) But this year, we?ll finish at the Newark Avenue Pedestrian Plaza and take it over! Our Finish-Line Festival will be held right there on the plaza, with live music and local community groups. Food and drink will be available on the plaza itself, as well as at all the restaurants and bars along the plaza. We?ll ride on streets (or sometimes on one side of a street) that are closed to motor-vehicle traffic by the Jersey City Police Department. Officers on bikes and in motor vehicles will escort us throughout the ride. Riders must be age 12 or older, and must wear helmets. (Younger children may be carried securely on an adult's bike in appropriate child seats, bakfiets buckets, trailers, etc.) All riders must also be able to maintain a pace of approximately 10 mph for 15 miles. This is a fairly relaxed pace for an adult who bikes even occasionally. We also take some short breaks to catch a breath and to allow for smooth traffic control, and our one long break in Lincoln Park roughly at the halfway point, after the only steep uphill on the course (so you can just walk your bike up that hill if you want). Please note that the Ward Tour is not timed and is not a race, in fact, we strictly limit the front of the tour to a maximum of 10 mph. But we must also emphasize: YOU MUST BE ABLE TO KEEP UP WITH THE TOUR, OR WE WILL HAVE TO ASK YOU TO CUT YOUR RIDE SHORT, as police re-open the streets to motor traffic behind us. If you can?t continue, there will be at least one van to pick you up and take you to the Pedestrian Plaza, but if it is full or you become separated from our rearguard, you?ll have to find your way on your own. We strongly recommend that you and everyone in your party do a least some bike riding in the weeks before the tour. The tour rolls out at 11 a.m., but you will need to pick up an official tour bib before the start, 9:00?10:30 a.m. We encourage you to dress up yourself and your bike colorfully! Bike JC is a citizen-based advocacy organization that aims to make Jersey City streets welcoming for bicyclists, by promoting bike-friendly policies, including bike lanes; bicycle education; and traffic law enforcement. We hope to see you June 4! With protected bike lanes on the horizon, this is shaping up to be another banner year for biking in Jersey City. Come celebrate with us! P.S.: Want to help us make this tour great? We?re looking for volunteers to help out throughout the day of the tour, for early-morning setup, rider registration, marshals on the ride, festival events, and afternoon/evening teardown/cleanup. We also need volunteers to distribute promotional postcards and put up promotional posters before the tour. You can sign up to volunteer here: http://www.bikejc.org/ward-tour/volunteer. The Jersey City Ward Tour is presented by Bike JC in partnership with the the City of Jersey City, Mayor Steven M. Fulop, the Jersey City Municipal Council, and the Office of Cultural Affairs, and through the generosity of our sponsors. #JCWardTour2017

I agree that the cost for the basic residential permit should rise, a little now, and more each year. But just as important: Residential permits for MULTIPLE cars per household should be MUCH more expensive. A little more expensive for the second, but 3 and 4 and 5 cars? Those are MUCH more likely to be unnecessary, and we shouldn?t be subsidizing their ownership. Buy your teenager a bike and a bus schedule, and the people who genuinely still NEED cars to work and raise families will have more room to park. Or if you absolutely insist, then if you can afford 4 or 5 cars, you can pay more for all the taxpayer-owned, taxpayer-maintained street space you?re hogging up.

DWI is definitely still a problem everywhere, and you do see it with people leaving the Plaza late at night.
But one counterweight to that is, at least when you set up nightlife right next to the PATH, a big taxi stand, etc., you enable many more people to avoid driving to and from bars in the first place. Same with little bars and restos scattered through walkable neighborhoods, as I previously mentioned. The suburban model of putting big bars on the outskirts of town, near the highway ramp, surrounded by parking lots, in the name of avoiding rowdiness and keeping neighborhoods quiet, has helped kill thousands of people via DWI.

I hear you on neighborhood noise and rowdy drunks, but taking bars, or restaurants that serve booze, out of neighborhoods is not the answer (though more regulation or enforcement might be).
Neighborhoods need to be "dotted" with all the common kinds of small retail businesses, from pizzerias to bodegas to dry-cleaners to, yes, neighborhood bars. Some concentrations of larger-scale businesses in "districts" like the Plaza is OK too, but if that's all there is, then people will be encouraged to own cars and drive every time they leave their houses, leading to more car crashes, pollution, congestion, parking battles, etc. -- even, ironically, more DWI. It's vital to keep each neighborhood somewhat self-sustaining, so people can walk and bike short distances at least some of the time, even when they go out for a beer and a burger.
