I'm floored that the city actually did the right thing... Maybe if K Hovanian didn't waste so much money on those 77 Hudson ads during the LXTV show they'd be in better shape...

The city "did the right thing"?

Don't kid yourself..... the FBI investigations are the only reason this didn't get approved.

So, how bad is the murder rate in Jersey City. 9 murders thus far. However, 5 of them committed or co-committed by the same piece of garbage.

So that means only 4 murders so far, which for the year would extrapolate only 12, or 1 per month.

Can't wait to hear Healy spin this as further proof that we sooooo safe in Jersey City.

Just have to wait until he gets home from vacation.

Architecturally, they could not have designed a more mediocre, boring and just plain bad addition on top of the old building.

Look at M650 flats almost across the street for comparison.

Davarn N. Sims, 19, of Wilkinson Avenue, was arrested at about 6:05 p.m. at Carteret Avenue and Clerk Street and charged with eluding police, reports said. Officers on patrol at Claremont and Arlington avenues said Sims "blatantly disregarded a stop sign" and then made a run for it when they activated their cruiser's lights and sirens to pull over the 1992 Honda Accord, reports said. The Honda took off and ran another stop sign on Randolph Avenue before turning onto Carteret, where the Honda stopped and Sims jumped out, disregarding the orders of the officers, reports said. Sims was arrested as he tried to get onto a bicycle that was lying in the middle of the street, reports said.

This was obviously a "dry practice run" for a future encounter when he has drugs and guns in the car....

Was the GPS out when the car was parked and the last thing he/she did before leaving the car was stuff it in the glovebox or where ever it was that it was "not visible"?

Some of the a-holes who are stealing these things are hanging out during the evening rush hour when people get home and just observe what is being removed or stored in a car. If they see something being 'hidden' in the car they want, they just come back later that night.

Does the notice say anything about deadlines or fines if they don't inspect?

This is JC City Hall you're dealing with.... You could probably just ignore it and it will go away.

Interesting comparison to this thread and one a couple of months ago:

On the one hand, crazy homeless guy scratches the finish on cars and some people feel sorry for him and say he should just be left alone.

On the other hand, ghetto gangster thugs tag peoples cars with markers and the firing squad is called for.

Wake up people. The crime (vandalism) is the same and should be dealt with. Whether medical attention for one and prison time for the other doesn't matter, but it should not be ignored.

50 feet? Right. That might be true if there was a trash can on every corner. But brilliant city government officials thought removing the trash cans would simply make the waste disappear so now instead of a trash can every 50 feet there is 3/4 of a mile between cans.

You know what? Can't blame the city for this one. A person who drops their can, bottle, wrapper, whatever on the street is going to do it whether a can is 50 feet away or 10 feet away. I've seen this enough to know.

Re: Garbage on the ground and sidewalks everywhere

Trash problem is WAYYYYY better than it used to be. Like it or not, let's just say the changing demographic has A LOT to do with that.

People using the public cans to put out their household trash because they don't want to wait until their scheduled pick-up is and has been a very legitimate problem. One or two kitchen bags full of trash and the can is filled. Now anyone who wants to drop a candy wrapper or dog-crap bag is out of luck and it starts overflowing or worse.... Would you want one of these cans on your corner? I wouldn't.

Flip side: the city does not empty them enough. Hoboken is either every day or every other day. Twice a week is not often enough.

Also, I'm not sure how it's done now, but the city used to send a crew on a truck around JUST to empty the public cans. Always seemed like a waste of funds & manpower since these could be emptied while they go around on the regular runs picking up residential trash...

1st thing I did after our 1st flood shortly after we bought 13 years ago was a check valve. Water promptly sprang from every crack and opening in the slab in the next flood. The sewer leaks so badly it pressurizes the fill between the house and sewer and under the foundation. I'm sure this is a cause of much of the foundation caused floor sagging downtown, including my own.

Ok. I should have clarified I did more than just a check valve. The clay pipe under my cellar floor was a mess, mostly because of previous lousy tie-ins of new work....

In addition to the check valve, i had ran new 4" PVC waste lines in the cellar and connected to the clay pipe at the foundation wall with a rubber boot connector. The pipe from the foundation wall to the street was actually in pretty good shape.

So I connected from a good pipe from the street to new PVC and check valve. All dry.

I used to get basement flooding from the sewer backcharge, not rising groundwater.

Installed a check valve in the line just before it exits the building. Cellar has been dry for over 10 years.

At 50 Columbus, a tower in Jersey City that opened in 2007, ?the numbers are really pretty amazing,? said Jacqueline Urgo, the president of the Marketing Directors, a Manhattan company that oversees leasing there. She said 35 apartments had been leased in January and 48 in February, even though it was the snowiest month in state history, according to those who keep such figures.

Up the street at Grove Pointe, another tower near the Grove Street PATH station, the rental pace was also strong, Ms. Urgo said, with 14 apartments leased in January and 24 in February.

Revive this next time a downtown abatement is requested.
