Re: Liberty Humane Society & Animal Control
Home away from home
Home away from home

First, I am curious of phDog's comment that LHS "has only about 6 months of experience running a shelter only operation."
I saw on the LHS website that they took over management of the Jersey Animal Shelter. Was that 6 months ago? What were they doing before? Or did they have a bigger operation and downsize to a "shelter only operation?" Important questions.

PurplePuppy. You have only 2 posts and they are both bashing the LHS. If you are a troll I suggest jumping on another tread, like, say, what your favorite local pizza is. Makes you look more legit. If not, I'm curious why the personal vendetta against LHS.

Also, you write "Sure there was a few incidents here and there with animal control over the years...." Dude. Dumping cats in the park is HUUUUGE. Not to mention a National joke. Frank should not have a job right now.

Now, some defense for AC. First, on principal, I believe that every city should have AC. If there's a problem from within, fix it, (i.e. new person in charge) rather than give responsibilities to someone else.
Someone asked about what AC does 24/7? My guess is that someone is not necessarily working at 4AM, but on call. What if a dog goes berzerk at 1am? Will LHS have someone available? For that matter, what is their experience with trapping out of control animals out side their facilities? There are lot of questions that would need to be addressed for them to take it over. It's not just about adopting and euthanasia.

Also, I know if LHS does take it over, a part of deal will be they will have to take some AC employees. I say why. If these are the same lazy jokers that aren't doing their jobs correctly now I don't want 'em continuing their jobs. LHS would have to hire more and their experience should put them on top of the pile.

Lastly, I want to say a personal story. I called AC a few years back cause I had an opossum in my backyard. (funny tread. search for it). I was afraid that it would get in a fight with my dog or cat (for all their sakes). I set up THREE times for AC to stop by my place to drop off a trap, which they would then pick up and take the animal to a "safer" location. All THREE times they did not show up. There is no accountability and AC is obviously misrun.

I wrote quick today. Apologies for any misspells. I know some people freak out about that.

No verdict yet; Beldini jury goes home for the day

The jury deliberating the fate of suspended Jersey City Deputy Mayor Leona Beldini has gone home for the day and were told to resume their deliberations at the federal courthouse in Newark at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

Citing the expected snowstorm, U.S. District Judge Jose Linares told the eight men and four women to stay home tomorrow.

I'm surprised the jury wasn't sequestered. Esp. since it's a corruption charge and the press its getting.
In Brooklyn 10 years ago I was sequestered during deliberations for a criminal trial that got zero press.

While I have not worked with the troubled teens from Jersey City, I have worked with troubled youth in Harlem and Brooklyn for almost 15 years. The only point in your post that I agree with is that they are good and bad in everything, BUT the "good" ones aren't really going to be affected by a curfew, which is what this thread is about. Most of the "good" ones are working toward their future or involving themselves in productive activities...and NOT loitering during curfew hours..

I am all for lending a helpful hand, but not naive enough to believe everyone can be turned around....

The "good" ones are affected because they will obey the curfew and not go out. The "bad" ones will be out anyway.

I don't disagree with the curfew, but if it's not enforced it really doesn't do any good. If anything it gives the cops an excuse to stop someone looking suspicious to check his age, or another fine/charge to slap on when they do catch someone doing something else.

Besides many of the complaints you here people complain about teens out past curfew do not even apply to them especially if you read the ones on JClist. Weekends do not apply and neither do holidays. Teens hanging out in front of a building they know someone does not apply, it does not apply to drop outs. A teen walking to a store it does not apply to. These tend to be the teens I see people complain about a lot on here.

No where in the ordinance (post 13) did I see it does not apply to dropouts or someone walking to a store.

My opinion is people aren't angry enough. We, as citizens, can't keep up the pressure to get Vega off the council the way the citizens of Hoboken got their mayor to resign.

They count on JC apathy. Folks will get riled up for a little bit then fade away.

As a collective, it's our fault for not keeping up the pressure and our fault for putting them there in the first place.

I find the background music at the beginning of Scott Joplin's The Entertainer appropriate (used as the theme for "The Sting").

This does not make Healy look good.

Teacher is a self-admitted conservative. Perhaps this is Teacher's way of suggesting we backing off, Healy ends up looks bad (as if he could look much worse) and have a better chance of a Republican in office.

The Kindle did not outsell actual books. On Christmas Day, Amazon sold more kindle editions of books than physical books, meaning that no one was logging onto the internet to buy physical books, but lots of people who had just received a new Kindle were turning them on and buying their first etext. On only Christmas Day.

Sorry, I got it a bit wrong. Still, not a good sign for the bookstore industry.

I have toyed with the idea of opening a bookstore here. Thing is its an uncertain future. The kindle outsold actual books this holiday season. There are those like me who prefer the actual book, but with youngsters perhaps getting use to electronic readers, it's too risky a business.

Are you talking about how they close it every school day around noon? They put cones up to block off the Brunswick between 7th and 6th so the kids can run around after lunch. Haven't seen any other street blocked off regularly for schools personally. Their rationale is probably that it's not a crazy busy street and it's only for a half an hour, not that I necessarily agree or disagree with it.

luckily, the court system doesn't take feistiness in consideration as to whether some one broke the law.

The only way I would be happy with a reprieve is if she starts naming names.

As far as the Deer Hunter is concerned, it was supposed to be "set" in Western PA, but there are two glaring issues with that:

1) The mountains are obviously the Rockies. Any glance will reveal that.

2) The deer they are hunting are shown as Mule Deer, which are not indigenous to PA. They should technically be hunting White Tail.

I love that movie, but those little details always bugged me...

Most of the movie was filmed in West Virginia and Ohio about an hour outside of Pittsburgh. I know a bunch of people who worked on it. The hunting scenes were filmed Washington's Cascade Mountains. Not sure why.

Back to topic at hand, I'm surprised a few of the movies mentioned here aren't on the Jersey City-IMDB page.

Both have done right by me.

Coincidently, they were both too busy today for a last minute ordeal I had today, and I'm at G&T on communipaw ave as I write this. So far the seem reliable and are opne till six today, this Xmas eve.

During this whole thing, I've wondered why when you apply to run for council, you don't have to show your driver's license or passport with your JC address. Maybe they'll change their procedures.

Good to know that someone who follows blind advice (as she claims) is voting on issues that affect MY wallet.
