I don't care how reasonable their prices are. A corkage fee for a BYOB Is ridiculous. They are the ones who are not applying for a liquor license, so people who want some wine have to bring it themselves. It's not like they already have wine to serve customers and you are bringing in your own bottle. I call BS.

Just ordered from there. The dumplings are good and authentic. Chinese dumplings are usually doughy with thicker skin than Japanese dumplings. Anyway, that's how I like them so I thought they were pretty tasty. We had the pork and duck lo mein and it was OK but not spectacular. Good stuff for the price, we'd go back.

Anyone else on monmouth have that same problem?

Have you regiestered a complaint with the post office? If you get no response then file a complaint with the postmaster general. Google it and you'll get detailed instructions. A postman not delivering mail is a serious offense. I'd try to get your neighbors to do the same.

I actually know plenty of lawyers who don't make anything near $175K.

And, lawyers who do make a ton of money generate revenue for their law firm. Since they bring in money, they get a cut of it through their high paying salary.

This whole argument is ridiculous to me. A 175K salary is A LOT of money! I certainly wouldn't be happy if I was making $265K a year and was told that my salary would be reduced to 175K, but come on, it is still a ton of money to make.

Re: Jersey City Libraries struggling to stay open
Home away from home
Home away from home

I go to the library at least twice a month to check out 3 to 4 books at a time. There is nowhere else where you can read books for free! I like the interlibrary loan feature within and outside JC. I would hope that the closing of the libraries would mean some more copies of books at Main and the other branches that are not closed, but I am not sure if that will happen or not. Personally, I am fine with closing libraries, as long as we still have more than 1 library in the city and it makes budgetary sense.

My big pet peeve at Main is the fact that there are no ramps and I have to lug a stroller over the steps. Luckily my kids are getting older so if I am driving to the library, I don't need to bring one. I have noticed that there are some security guards who will now offer to help moms with their stroller, but I still have to wonder about the fact that handicapped people still are not able to go to the Main library. Are the other libraries that will remain open wheelchair accessible? Can't they just install a ramp? I thought they were supposed to do make it handicapped accessible by the end of this year or next?

The elevator is really small but the two men that I've seen who run it are really kind. I'm not sure if that's their only job or if they do other maintenance work inside the library. It would be a shame if they replaced the elevator if they lost their jobs.

Where is the outrage at the lack of communication from Dr. Epps, his lackey subordinates and Board Members? Have the principals said anything?

There are obvious health implications in addition to serious financial ones if a child contracts bedbugs and brings them home.

Helloooooooooo, is anyone there?

This is inexcusable!

From what I heard, bedbugs don't carry any diseases, so the health risks (physical, that is) is pretty much nonexistant. I hear you should bag all the clothes in plastic to suffocate them and then wash the clothes and dry them in the dryer and that would kill them. Still it is pretty gross!

I have to agree. CT drivers are nuts, especially on the Merritt. The freaking road is two lanes and twists and turns and if you aren't driving 85, people tailgate you and flash their lights. I had the temerity of only driving 80 one night and had some A-hole rode on my ass and beeped his horn and flipped me off when I got out of his way. Just anothe reason why I hate CT.

You can get them canned and dried at A&P. I would use the canned variety, but I'm no expert. Be careful, they are really spicy! So if you were to get the canned kind, I wouldn't dump the whole can in there.

I'm really glad this article was posted. I have no idea what JC police make but I am FLOORED by their personal vehicles.

In the past two months, I've driven by construction/road work and there's always a JC cop around. I saw one sitting in his Mercedes SUV. I saw another one getting something out of his completely tricked-out Hummer and another sitting in a Cadillac Escalade.

I do realize that police put their lives on the line and are important and all, but since when did being a police officer replace being in "waste management?"

My property taxes went up $588. I'm unemployed and it's getting increasingly difficult to make ends meet. I have to be honest, it pisses me off when I see a cop at a construction site sitting on his ass in a luxury vehicle.

OK the whole luxury SUV argument is silly. Just because they own a luxury car, doesn't mean they can really afford it. Plenty of people overextend. I'm sure there's lots of dumb cops out there (as there are lots of regular dumb people) who spend more than they should on a car.

While I really think this officer treated you really badly, I'm not sure if I'd appreciate it if I got into an accident and some random stranger started taking pictures of the accident and me and my family. Maybe you weren't taking picture of the people in the accident, but who is to say you weren't going to until the police officer screamed at you to put away your camera.

Re: Christie signs bill allowing N.J. residents to send children to public schools in other towns

This only applies to schools that are not at capacity. Are there a lot of schools in better districts that are not at capacity?

I think this bill is complete BS. If you want your children to go to school in a better district, then you should move to that district. It would just be a suck on another town's resources, totally unfair. And how about working to improve the schools in your district, instead of making other towns responsible for your kids?

If you live in the Pier, it is managed by Equity, right? I know for a fact that they have an "allowable" range where they can negotiate down to. Just talk to Amber and tell her that the rent increase is too much of a financial burden and that you are going to look elsewhere. I am sure she will work with you (and see if she can throw in free parking at least). You should never just take a rent increase without having a conversation with your property manager.

Dems Want Christie to Apologize to Obama

As I read this article, my general feeling was that this was nothing but political posturing. I voted for Obama, and didn't vote for Christie, but I do not in any way, shape or form think Chirstie owes the President an apology. Frankly, that's just kind of stupid.

But when I got to the part of the article where Christie is quoted as saying, "When President Obama comes back to New Jersey, he's going to have to explain to the people of New Jersey why he's depriving them of $400 million that this application earned them because one of his bureaucrats in Washington couldn't pick up the phone and ask a question, couldn't go on the Internet and find information or wouldn't accept verbal representation from Commissioner Schundler when they were down there," I thought my head was going to explode.

Christie is a self described conservative who thinks that the Federal Government should keep its hands out of States' affairs, yet is applying for Federal funding. That's sort of hypocritical in and of itself.

But what makes me truly crazy is that one of the main beliefs of the conservative ideology of personal responsibility. Yet not only has he made Schundler (whom I don't really care for either) his scapegoat, he is now suggesting (as evidenced by his quote) that it was the responsibility of the "bureaucrats in Washington" to find his administrations mistakes and fix it for them. If that's not a "nanny state" mentality, I don't know what is.

Seriously?

That's like a child saying they can't be punished because they didn't do their homework because they forgot to bring it home and then suggesting that it was the teacher's responsibility to make sure that the assignment made it into his or her backpack.

WTF?

This is my biggest problem with people like Christie. His ideology only seems to hold true when it's applied to someone else. The minute there are negative consequences for their own actions, they start looking for excuses. Personal responsibility...pfft...that's for everyone else.

I am pretty sure that part of the article was referring to before Christie watched the video of Brett Schundler when they had their panel presentation. According the Christie, Schundler claimed that they didn't let him correct the numbers or something (which was wrong as evidenced on the video). Who knows who is telling the truth, but that is the reason why Christie says he fired Schundler, because Schundler lied to him about it.

Unless Christie wrote out the application himself, I do not see how he is to blame for the error. I have been asked many times by management to "take another look" at budget numbers and stayed at work late to completely change reports last minute and if I made an error and put in the wrong number, it would have been my fault. I would never be able to say "Well you asked me to make changes at the last minute, so it's YOUR fault" to my director or his VP. Sorry, it doesn't work that way.

What is with all of the pervs in Hamilton Park? Someone told me that some people have noticed a guy taking pictures of kids at the playground and another guy masturbating in the park who the cops haven't caught. Is it the neighborhood or something about the park which attracts perverts? I haven't seen this at the other playgrounds we visit. Now I am thinking that I should stay away from Hamilton Park when I am alone with my kids.

Has anyone tried this place? We just ordered from there today and it is awesome! It's Korean style fried chicken and I have to say it's the tastiest stuff I've had in a long time. They also have some korean dishes like bibimbap but I haven't tried that yet.

They should get together with the Krave Truck and I swear I'd be there everyday!

So I took the ferry today and was cut in line again by someone rushing to get to the boat. I looked at her ID and it said Deutche Bank (forgive the spelling, I don't feel like looking it up). She was given a ticket when she showed her ID, so I guess they have a free deal too. The ticket counter guy apologized to me which was nice of him.

They may or may not be jerks, but you're confused. They don't need tickets--they use their company id's. So if someone cut in line getting their ticket, it wasn't from Goldman.

It seemed like they were showing their IDS in exchange for a ticket. I might be wrong, but that's what it looked like to me.

And I guess they didn't want to be stuck behind someone paying for their ticket when the boat was arriving at the dock.

The 60 day rule is fairly easy to adhere to when you have a newborn. For that age, it's just coffee dates and tummy time in the park. It does get harder when you have two kids, but it's do-able. I've met some nice moms through the group.

I tried it again after a couple of years to see if it was a better experience, it wasn?t. I am not concerned about missing armrests and the aesthetics. My ojida comes from the plethora of hoodlums talking throughout the entire movie, answering their phones, etc.

A couple years ago I first swore off Newport theaters when people were talking on the cell phones, screaming educative comments like ?wha he be thinkin...he crazy?, and a guy near me was translating the entire movie from English to Arabic for the guy next to him.

I will continue going to Edgewater, Secaucus or Battery Park City for another couple of years.

Hahaha! I remember one night we had some movie ticket certificates that didn't work at Edgewater and we watched King Kong (yeah, I know, not a great movie). There was a woman sitting across the aisle from 4 of her children. Those kids were screaming and making a ruckus and the mom screamed "YOU BETTER BE QUITE OR I AM GONNA WHUP YOUR ASS RIGHT NOW!!!" It is pretty funny now in hindsight.

We recently watched Toy Story 3 at Newport and the crowd was fine. It was the weekend but a matinee. I told my husband to keep his popcorn in his lap after reading this thread a while back. I haven't seen any mice but it wouldn't surprise me.
