If however they are, and stores are just bitter abt competition the brick and mortar places should suck it up.

Agreed. But does anyone know if these food carts have itinerant food licenses? I would like to know the details behind this before I sign the petition. Is the city not giving out itinerant licenses or are they charging insane prices for one?

I love the food carts, but they really should be paying taxes like all other businesses. I know a lot of the hotdog vendors have the licenses, but does the taco truck, luncinda's, the soup guy? It really is in the best interest of the public health as well.

Re: Michael Anthony's at Newport Marina

Went there for dinner Wednesday night. The food was okay, but what made it really nice is the place and what they did to take advantage of the location.

The outdoor bar is great, and there are tables outside in the bar area for eating. They have a lot of small plates to choose from on the menu which look good. I think it's the nicest location in JC. Not only do you get the NYC view, but it's right on that pretty marina.

It's also a nice mixed crowd of after work people, coupless, boaters, etc.

I'll definitely be going back, especially to hang out at the bar.

I used to go there in an emergency when I lived up there. I guess it's okay if you can stand that overpowering meat smell.

It was foul, and I am definitely not a vegetarian.

Yes, it's all about enforcement. There are certain people who are only going to drive safely and courteously if there is a possibility of getting a ticket. It seems like the bad drivers are well aware that they can use Marin Blvd as a freeway between the tunnel and the turnpike. They are not going to get pulled over.

Two people hit on Marin Blvd in two days is really ridiculous.

How's about somebody dumps Joe Frank in the back of Lincoln Park in the middle of winter and leaves him there for days. And that goes for the knuckleheads on the moron council who voted no.

How great would it be to find them days later in a trap, freezing and smelling of mackerel. Although some members would have to be baited with booze, not fish.

Not for nothing, but the a-holes yelling in the video sound like one of the groups you refer to.

Just pointing it out; nothing more.

Can I add to this:

Oh, Please. Nobody is targeting minorities. Please stop hiding behind that lame excuse. Obama's president now so just cut it out.

And I'd bet that most of the people you accuse of targeting minorities voted for him.

Martin Luther King dreamed of a country where people would be judged, not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. From the looks of that video, the guys from that bar had some bad content to their characters.

I'm rarely out after eleven, and I don't live that close to this bar so I didn't really know what people were talking about. However, I drove past there last night at about eleven p.m., and it was a zoo. Cars were double parked with people hanging out and one car had a radio blasting the bass. People were all over the street going back and forth to get fish from the fish place.

It was really loud. I can't imagine living across the street. I don't know if last night was typical, but from what I saw it was way over the top of what's acceptable.

I live very near this corner and I have two kids. My oldest daughter is seven. I'd love to give her the freedom to cross the street when she's eight, but I'm petrified because the crosswalk is not safe.

Why do drivers think it's okay to stop in the middle of the crosswalk like that roll through guy?

It would be awesome if you could leave that camera there, and shame people.

My very smart mother has lived in this city for 83 years, and one would be hard-pressed to find anyone who can smell a hudson county crook quicker than she can.

Of course she likes Fulop, not only because he is honest and smart, but because she knows how important it is to have a dissenting vote on the council.

Having another one of Healy's "team" on the council to rubber stamp would be bad, bad, bad.

Re: Is Hoboken the best small city in NJ to start a small biz? -- What about Downtown Jersey City?

I guess according to certain criteria, Hoboken is a great place to start a small business. But that all depends on what type of small business you want to start.

Are all small businesses trendy clothing stores, expensive kid boutiques and panini shops? Most small businesses in this country thrive by providing people and other businesses with what they need. For example, there are linen washing services, plumbing supplier stores, accounting offices, exterminators, etc.

I have a friend who owns a check cashing/pawn shop in Jersey City and he makes a lot, lot of money. Would a business like that do well in Hoboken?

You need to get into a car and drive Southwest, Northwest, and South. Maybe then you will see that it's not all Paulus Hook.

And I used to drive around this city(of 1/4 million people, most of whom never even go to NY) to get to work in the mornings. The garbage trucks made the rest of the "city" a traffic nightmare.

We ain't no suburb. That's just mean.

We're the second largest city in the state and we have not a single attribute of a suburb.

(This has nothing to do with garbage but I couldn't let such a hateful thing just go unremarked upon. Carry on.)

My apologies. I messed up when I was trying to quote JC downtown regular. Although the first paragraph is not quoted, they are the words of JC downtown regular, not me.

I'm horrified that anyone might think I said that JC is a suburb of New York. I was arguing against that as for obvious reasons. And, yes, it is mean.

You're right about that. JC will never have any nightlife because people here think they live in the suburbs where all you should here at night is crickets. And then they turn around and complain that they have to go into the city to go out.

You hit the nail on the head. Agree with you 100%. Fewer people would use streets like Erie and Coles St. to go to and from the tunnel if there were lights, speed bumps, cops, cameras etc.

And Grand St. is totally nuts. There are three schools and a hospital there, and still people are allowed to drive like thery're on the freeway. Those crossing guards really earn their pay. God bless 'em. It's going to take a kid or crossing guard to get killed before the city does something.

In my opinion, they shouldn't take any students from outside JC into Academic, regardless of how much they pay.

Academic is a magnet school for gifted JC students. There are a lot of smart kids who are turned away from Academic because it is so hard to get into. Some of those students can not afford the tuition to a good enough school which will be challenging enough for them.

Not getting into Academic can have a dramatic effect on the future of a lot of kids who cannot afford to pay for a top rate private high school.

Why is it okay to negatively impact a Jersey City student's future just so somebody who works for the board can get his average Joe into academic?

Like so many things in our city, it's disgraceful that this is allowed.

I am proud to say that I did not vote for a single member of the current JC Board of Education.

God, I was at the payment center in Bayonne today. I had to schlepp out there because they screwed up my bill, and it's been impossible to get anyone on the phone.

After I was finished, the slob behind the counter decided that she had to go to lunch, leaving a bunch of people standing on line. There was another guy working there, but he was a robot who could only do bill paying and nothing more.

Can you imagine if the rest of the world ran this way?

I take this recommendation back. We just had an awful experience with him. It's a long story, but he really botched a job that another plumber had to fix. He charged us an insane amount of money for screwing up.

Our neighbors said they had a bad experience too.

Stay away from Carmine Aumenta.

I worked at a school in that neighborhood for several years. It's nice, and is accessible to PATH, downtown, Newark Ave. The only drawback is that the Mob of Dickinson High School students are a pain at lunchtime and dismissal. You don't want to be walking around then, as they are very badly behaved, and leave trash and litter around.

Otherwise, I would definitely rent or buy there. It's a nice little neighborhood.
