They should only let Jersey City residents into these debates.

Also, in reading the article again and in talking to neighbors, I cannot tell if the light was green in favor of the direction the pedestrian was crossing, or against him. See below & tell me what this means:

"A witness, who did not give his name, told responding police officers that Clifford "was crossing (Kennedy Boulevard) while the light was green, hesitated, then darted across and was struck by the vehicle," according to the accident report."

In learning more from some eye-witnesses, the victim was launched/pushed almost half a block down JFK and the driver did not stop. PErhaps he did return to the scene - but it is not yet clear or been reported as such. Which makes me think this whole thing smells doubly bad. The driver got no alcohol test, nor any summons. WTF??

Given the trajectory/distance that the victim traveled, how could this driver have been going 25mph or less? He had to be speeding. And also, as mentioned above - did the driver run a red light, or was the light green for him and the pedestrian jay-walked?

Like others said, crime is crime no matter who does it. It may very well have been an "accident" but all accidents need to get the same thorough investigation, no matter who the perp is. I love good cops. But justice needs to be served here.

I've also just learned that this victim lived in my building. Heartbreaking. Young guy just out of law school at his first big job trying to get his promising law career going.

Wow. That's really sad.

Hi, Has anyone recently looked at the 2520 Kennedy Building? And the area around it? I was curious about any thoughts about the area these days as recession slowly tries to recede. It seems like this post on this building last had active participants in 2009. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated as I try to make a decision where I move next. I am currently in NYC and will have to commute to the city from JC once I move. Thanks to all who respond in advance!

I lived on Belmont a few years back and I passed this building daily as I walk to and from the Path. I have never been inside the building, but the surrounding area is laid-back and the park is just across the road, which is lovely.

The Kennedy Boulevard side is nice, fairly clean but not many shops besides the liquor/drug store but the Bergen side was pretty different it has the most amenities like a gym, fruits and veggies shops, cleaners, bakeries, etc it also had lots of people hanging on the streets, trash everywhere , lots of drug trafficking and late night prostitution.

I avoided Bergen ave during off peak hours and only walked up Kennedy or sometimes West side (which also has some shopping).

The building from what I remember was nothing special, it has a huge lobby which I recall during the winter months lots of children playing in the lobby and a few men that would smoke cigars in front of the building.

The commute for me to Manhattan LES from there was about a hour and 10 min. I never took the bus from JSQ I always walked it, its a 16-20 min walk depending how fast you walk.

Good Luck!

By the way this was in 2010, so not sure if much has change....

You live on Belmont but you avoid Bergen Ave?? Sheesh. With Kennedy you take your life in your hands everytime you walk down it. The drivers are maniacs. On Bergen it's like a time warp. Back to mellow times. Not like you're in a city at all.

It's gorgeous! I spoke with the security guard, they're definitely working on it. That's the old Morris Canal behind it. Cobblestones, tow path, and all. Check out the aerial view on Google Earth. It's really cool.

Haunted my ass. That owner is so rich that he's been sitting on the project until the market is back up. He bought the building, along with A&S Mills inside of the Whitlock Cordage project, and he has about 20 cell towers on each. I hear each cell on each tower pays him rent of $2000 per month. That's big bucks! He's putting two more stories in top for a total of 90+ units.

Steve Fulop has my vote! I like a guy with a plan that's real and not some drunk who won't enforce zoning laws and lets homeowners with illegal apartments rip us honest tax payers off. Did you guys know that Healy 'forgot' to do the step-up tax increase at Port Liberte? So those luxury condo's weren't being taxed even at their discounted tax rate all this time. And let's not forget the penis expos? across from St. Nicolas grammar school that Mrs. Healy blamed on her husband's sugar. I don't know about you but I'm embarrassed by Healy. I am all for Fulop. He impressed the heck outa me during out the debate. I think he'll do what he says he's going to do.

If the union meeting was mandatory for the union members who were there and they were called there to be told by Healy they they will lose their jobs if they didn't vote for Healy and Grecco orchestrated the meeting it definitely wasn't an opinion. That was racketeering and it's illegal.

I wasn't talking about his opinion. I was talking about him telling union members how to vote. Isn't what he did along the same line as an employer telling an employee how to vote? I'd like to know if he lives in Jersey City. If he doesn't then his opinion really means nothing to me.

Best line leveled at someone, imho, was when a friend said to Mastikoudis - "Now don't go texting Healy the answers to the questions". (or something to that effect, I was too busy snickering)

Mrs. Healy keep yelling out inappropriate things at these forums, huh? At the Loews event, she yelled "He does not!" when Fulop said the he actually liked Mayor Healy (as a person). Rude, lady, rude. Yes, and classless. Have some pride. You are really hurting your husband's campaign.

Remember she wrote the letter blaming Healy's drunken expos? of his penis while sitting on his front steps across from St. Nicholas School on his sugar being high? I think we all know someone who's gotten really drunk and did dumb things but never has anyone I've known gotten drunk and exposed themselves in front of a school. Mrs. Healy, I understand that you want to support your husband but diabetics do not-I repeat, DO NOT expose themselves because their sugar levels get too high. That kind of behavior is caused by a different kind of illness. See the JCList thread about the NY couple recently indicted for plotting to drug children in order to have sex with them. THAT kind of illness is what causes a grown man, drunk or not, to expose himself in public, across from a school.

Leona had no problem getting around without a cane when she went for her manicures at Cindy Nails on Central Ave or food shopping at Stop and Shop while she was waiting for sentencing but she used a cane every time she showed up for court.

Re: Jersey City mayoral candidates get into shouting match over corruption at debate

Considering the limited extra curricular activities offered by Jersey City and the JCBE, I was especially interested in all the candidate's answers during the Heights debate to the question regarding what kind of extra curricular activities would you like to see offered for our school children. Healy took responsibility for offering the PAL baseball program for boys at Caven Point and the PAL basketball program-also in Greenville-and the 'Catch and Throw' fishing at Reservoir #3. He seemed to have missed the question altogether. The question was what would he like to see. I would have hoped to hear him say he would like to see the same programs we parents want to see. Soccer, La Crosse, fine arts, performing arts, environmental programs, and a lot more!
Instead he basically pointed out how limited the extra curricular activities are for boys, how almost non-existent they are for girls, and that none are non-sports related. He also doesn't know you don't catch and THROW fish, you catch and RELEASE fish. This last one really got to me as apparently there are only three extra curricular activities he takes bragging rights to and he doesn't know the name or the nature of one of them. This is sad and embarrassing.

I thought it was illegal in the United States to tell anyone how to vote. Shouldn't Grecco know this considering he's in charge? Oh wait. Maybe he just thinks he's in charge. I'm not sure. Maybe someone who pays those exorbitantly high union dues so he can run off at the mouth can explain if he gets paid to tell them how to vote or if that's wishful thinking on his part.

I visited Taqueria a couple of times because they say if the first time a restaurant is bad, maybe they're having a bad day. Well, the second time was as bad as the first. I really wanted to like it but their crappy cactus tacos can't make up for slow service and a so-so atmosphere. Los Tres Cholitos on Restaurant Row in the Heights has the most amazing pumpkin flower tacos. I would go there over Taqueria any day.

Why is the head of the teachers union speaking his opinion about our Jersey City Mayoral race as if it's part of his job? I guess he doesn't have much to do during his work day.
The Mayoral race is for Jersey City residents. It's not a job related race. Grecco should shut up.
