To the person who is concerned with dog hair & dander- I think you greatly overestimate the cleanliness of even the best restaurants. You're eating who-knows-what every time you don't prepare your own meal. I say keep the dogs, lose the crying, screaming babies. and women pop-a-squatters.

Just so. I have a photo from my grandfathers village in Ukraine of him with the Jewish Fire Brigade. Each group in town had their own brigade.

One of the spots where the Libertarians run off the rails with this privatization stuff is public services. If there was actually a free market in sewers or fire protection he'd be onto something. But this is all stuff economists would describe as markets with a "high barrier to entry". Even something like broadband which should be competitive ends up being a duopoly where they'll compete on anything but price. The market in commercial sanitation is notorious for corruption and price fixing.

As for enforcement of that fire insurance, I've got news, there's tons of uninsured and unlicensed drivers all over our roads and if they hit you you're screwed. So the always helpful insurance companies sell a product called "uninsured driver insurance".

where did I suggest "Fire Insurance" or premiums ? issue is not history lesson, stick to the point, a separate accountable entity like MUA or JCIA which will promote fire safety & resistance standards using science & technology, whose focus is prevention and NOT putting out the fire!!! there are robots who can with the ability to fly and do the job for a fraction of cost !!! the world is moving in a different direction...

If it looks good on paper, we should implement; One is not good; its all eggs in one basket; in a run-off, he won...its too risky !!! there are restrictions to work at ward level; there are people selling condos moving to rentals; cant afford to live... frustration is spread across the city, not just in a ward; 500 volunteers will do the job !!! you're hired !!! 499 more to go ...

Four people were shot in the courtyard of a Jersey City housing complex early this morning, Jersey City police said.

The four victims, one man and two women from Jersey City and a man from Irvington, told police they were hanging out in a courtyard at Marion Gardens at 2:30 a.m. when a man came out of one of the buildings, said "who the f--- is y'all?" and then fired six shots.

The 29-year-old Irvington man was struck in the arm and leg, a 23-year-old Dales Avenue woman was grazed in her right leg and a 24-year-old Dales Avenue woman was shot in her right hand, police reports said. The two woman told police that another man, 38, also of Dales Avenue, was shot in the stomach, reports said.

The injuries are not considered life-threatening, police said.

The shooter, who the victims told police they knew by name, returned to the building after the shootings and came back with a bigger gun, police reports said. At that point the victims fled, with the shooter following them and waving the gun before disappearing, according to the reports.

All four victims were treated at area hospitals. Police are investigating.

He didn't just refer to the one guy, he said it's a "haven for inner city thugs". How come nobody ever talks about suburban thugs or rural thugs? Because when someone uses the word "thug", they are referring to a specific type of person which has less to do with their actions and more to do with their general appearance (and not just race).

And that's why when I hear that word, I know exactly where this poster is coming from, and I'm done.

AAW..., Let me correct myself, that is,this mall is frequented by those who are kept down by "The Man", and those who go out of their way to behave in a civilized manner and who can convey their thoughts without having to use a weapon, oh and yeah, those who wouldn't dare to hold anyone up if the opportunity arises, Right??????????

I hope this makes the truth a bit easier to swallow.

I never said anything about being kept down by "The Man", and the people in the story weren't even carrying a weapon. More stereotyping once again, nice job. Nevermind that these were college students which would go against the idea of a "thug" who couldn't "convey their thoughts without having to use a weapon". I never knew that robbers were trying to "convey their thoughts", I always just thought they wanted money.

It seems to me that it's a story of an inside job where someone was set-up by someone they thought was a friend. It's a crime and it's horrible and they should be punished, I was just pointing out how quickly "thug", the sarcastic "kept down by The Man" and not being able to "convey their thoughts" get thrown around when it's a group of young black kids involved in something.

That's why people who start using these terms lose all credibility with me, once again you point out exactly how you frame the story and any valid points you may have had get lost on me. I'm not defending these criminals, they seem to be pretty terrible people at least based on this crime, but it's funny to see how quickly you lumped them into a category of people that you see as "thugs", and makes me wonder how many "thugs" you see around on a daily basis.

The victims -- two women and a man from Jersey City and an Irvington man -- told police they knew the shooter by name.

The victims said they were hanging out in a courtyard area when the gunman came out of a building around 2:30 a.m., yelled at them and fired six shots.

No arrest has been made.

Irvington is about nine miles west of Jersey City.

"neighbor's LAPSE" is a management issue; The insurer had let it lapse; the city which oversees, let it lapse; like tax sale, have a sale on this one also and the people supposed to make compliance work as part of the govt, do their job, failure to do so, let them ALL pay a penalty!!! I cant drive car, if I dont have a Car insurance; dont provide Gas & Electricity, if they dont have the Fire Services Coverage... End of the day, CITY should not be in the business of collecting garbage, putting off fire, parking, water, sewer etc., City residents should be paying for only what they use not for what is offered!!! Is that libertarianism?

Sure.. JCIA, MUA, Parking Authority have problems; the problems are not because of tax payers, it is because of the people the tax payers elected and their greed to stay in power!!! These people have setup a system, 'in the name of Governance' they can prosper by collecting more and more tax money but not by giving up even 1% of luxury that they have acquired from tax payers(even in hard times)!!

These are interesting times and so the challenges, if we don't adapt CHANGE, we'll be left alone with a big premium to pay at a later stage; we need new line of lateral thinking to solve our problems; 'TAX INCREASE' every year is not a solution!!!

The city should rather govern & monitor them by legislation not in the business of managing or running the fire houses! They already have separate entities like JCIA, Water & Sewer, JCBOE etc., why not FIRE Dept; make them accountable for income & expense. When the consumer has the FEAR, that FIRE will cost him a lot, he will be more careful than when it is FREE !!!

The problem with your classic "libertarian" position is what about when your neighbor has let his "fire dept insurance" lapse? Or if you want to charge after the fact like an ambulance svc what if he tries to put it out with a hose rather than call it in? Both put your home at risk.

Don't get me started about a FD Authority! The JCIA, & MUA are less accountable not more! The Parking Authority managed to run in the red and it was just business as usual, not heads rolling right and left.

I find that the supporters of the BB court appear the most racist. They reason that if the "kids" don't have basketball then they will be out and about mugging and killing people. As if they only have those two choices! Now that is racism!
BTW? Kudos to Phil Rivo and Dave for cleaning up last night and emptying the garbage cans. It's a shame that residents must clean up after other people.

I would also have a huge problem with someone saying that the basketball players would be out muggling & killing people if they weren't plyaing basketball. Please, don't put words in my mouth.

Re: Volunteers needed for Jersey City Recall

Just can't stay away

Let us look at the numbers:

Assume we need 40,000 petitions;

We already have 500 'interested' ones, EACH can get another 20 signatures city wide;

that 10000 can get another 4 each ... i.e. 40,000

Assuming that the error level is high 60%, still we have 16,000 petitions.

Then, we have:

Churches (30 churches 200 members: 6000)
Senior Citizens (30 homes 200 members: 6000)
Diverse Communities (15 communities, 200 members: 3000)
Other Groups like 1jc (5 groups 600 members: 3000)
Unions (5 unions 200 members: 1000)
Business Associations (10 assn, members 100: 1000)

Assume error level is 50% we still have 10000;

Is it not doable ?!!!

Please feel free to suggest.

That my friend is a long hard climb.

You start something like this and than don't succeed it gives people the idea that everything is ok,plus you are diverting your volunteers all over the city.Now if you target a single Ward Candidate you will only need 6000.Much more doable and you send a strong message to Everyone that the people can take them out at will.

So out of the six wards who is the most vulnerable.
Love to see Gaughan gone but he can raise money from county vendors and give you a good fight.Ward B already has an election this Nov. for Kennys old seat.
That leaves Revera in ward C, Viola in ward F and Sottalano in
Ward A.

Of those three who votes 100% with Healy and did not win on the first Ballot in May.Mike sottolano in ward A.
Rolando Lavarro gave him a good fight last may and was backed by The JC one group.

If you put all your resorces down in ward A you could take him out this Nov.He is the weakest link.[/quote]
