Where can I find fresh soba noodles? Frozen would be okay, too. I would like to prepare them at home Ten Zaru style. I found lots of dry soba brands at H Mart in Fort Lee, but they just don't taste anything like fresh ones - no bite or chewiness to them.

I've seen fresh soba noodles at Asian Foods on 440.

I ask anyone living in Jersey City who purports to be a progressive, tax sensitive conservative, and who has his/her eyes open to NJ's pension crisis, please read this article and watch this video on Freehold Boro, NJ's most budgetarily desperate school district.

http://www.app.com/story/news/educati ... iefs-beg-nj-aid/81865994/

Freehold Boro struggles to educate 1,700 kids in buildings whose maximum capacity is 1,100.

Freehold Boro has already lost its auditorium and cafeteria in order to convert them into classrooms.

Freehold Boro taxes itself above its Local Fair Share, so it is not reasonable for them to tax themselves even higher to build more school space. Even if Freehold Boro did bond money to expand school capacity, it would not have the resources for proper staffing.

76% Freehold Boro's students are FRL-eligible and 14% are English Language Learners.

Despite these tough demographics, Freehold Boro only gets $5,700 per student in state aid (Jersey CIty gets $13,600 per student) According to NJ's school aid law, SFRA, Freehold Boro should be getting about $13,300 per student. The $7500 per student aid gap is one of NJ's five worst.

In absolute terms, Freehold Boro shoudl get $22 million in state aid, but they only get $10 million.

Jersey City, you are in a position to help Freehold Boro since you are NJ's most overaided district! Whereas Freehold Boro is underaided by $12 million, Jersey City is overaided by $130 million!

Freehold Boro pays 120% of Local Fair Share in school taxes. Jersey City pays 33% of Local Fair Share.

If you purport to be a progressive (or a conservative that doesn't want see a town strangled by taxes), I urge you to write to your elected officials and tell them that you support aid redistribution as long as the money goes to the neediest places like Freehold Boro!

For Facts on the State Aid Distribution See the Following:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d ... dA_3CEPAsiEpUI/edit#gid=0

What Freehold needs to do is elect better representatives who can present their case in Trenton for a bigger piece of the school state aid budget.

There is NO mass transit in JC. Yvonne said so using her REAL NAME, so it must be true!

She will not rest until Jersey City mirrors her urban paradise of half-full surface parking lots and nothing but medical offices. All bars, restaurants and anything even remotely fun or interesting will be driven out in the name of his holiness, Parking, and anybody under the age of 40 will not be allowed to lease or purchase property if she had her way. Baby boomers with multiple SUVs and old people are the only "acceptable" residents to her.

Yvonne should move to Princeton, I have never seen so many doctors offices in one town all with ample parking.

YES! I totally miss RUB. That was my favorite BBQ place in the city. Seriously great stuff. Walking past it was always a pleasure to get buffeted by the strong smell of smoked BBQ.

As with you, I am also rooting for DM. Their food is good. They are far away from everything, so I don't stop in often enough.

Cruz is hated by everyone. He's often called "the most hated man in Washington" for a reason. Kasich is Bush without the Bush name and he's a guy they would rally behind. Rubio is the alternative that could win, but I don't see them giving him the nod now. Maybe in four years they will....

If it is a brokered convention I wouldn't be surprised if the party elites try to nominate a dark horse, someone who is not currently involved in this election debacle. They hate Trump and Cruz, they don't feel "little" Marco is ready for prime time.

This is a wonderful project! After years of watching the old loft buildings in PADNA be demolished for parking garages with a high-rise plopped on top, it's really encouraging to see a carefully planned adaptive re-use that preserves the character of the building. I wish there were photos of some of the units - but if they are finished as the site claims, with high ceilings, exposed beams, even the smaller units will have a lot of character.

And you couldn't ask for a better location - in Jersey City's best neighborhood, with a 5 minute walk to the PATH. I see this doing really well, as it's increasingly harder to find space and amenities of this quality, at this rent, in Manhattan.

It's a shame the designers didn't do a better job with the interior spaces. Trying to push 1 and 2 br apts with no windows in the bedrooms? They should take down all the walls in these places and call them lofts.

Before you make another "leap", why don't you rent an AirBnB in JS for a couple of weeks to see if you really like it. In the big picture it's not much of an expense, and you don't want to make the same mistake twice of moving somewhere "hoping" you'll like it.

Good advice, if this isn't feasible be sure you do a walk around the area during the day and at night on weekends and week days. You want to be comfortable with the area you will be investing in.

Is now a good time to move to JSQ? Or is the market there - in my case for a small condo - too close to peaking?

I'm having a realtor come look at my place in the Heights next week, having talked to several its seems I may be able to get out with enough to make a lateral move to someplace with access to PATH. Having lived in the Heights for 7 years I can see it having a certain appeal for those looking for a semi-suburban experience, but I'm coming to the conclusion the smaller condo unit market is going to continue to languish owing to the limited mass transit options, and lackluster leadership.

Any thoughts, insights, suggestions on getting into the JSQ condo scene?

WT I think this a good time to move into the Journal Square area. You will be catching the upswing in RE values, anything you buy will do well, the old RE adage placing the importance on location applies.

Totally agree, when I was out of school I didn't own many things, my clothes and a TV so I didn't need room for lots of possessions. I was not ready to settle down in one place and wanted to be flexible for any opportunities that presented itself.

Many young people also prefer to have opportunities for interaction with their piers as they build their social networks. This type of living arrangement does that.

If you take a look at the pictures attached to the listing you would see that it IS sad looking. It may sound lovely, but it definitely does not look that way.

Likewise, based on those pictures, this was a cheap renovation (cheap cabinets, appliances, etc) and for that kind of money (or, a bit more) you can get a much better unit in a modern building with better amenities and much better finishes.

All the rooms look narrow and claustrophobic, for that price you can also find a place with light and views and 2 full baths.

BTW, not quite on topic, but something that has been on my mind lately: I find it amusing that people in JCLIST love to shit on all these "chain" places, but the truth on the street is these places are super popular and people love to frequent them. From what I have heard from many people, there is always a line at CF, sometimes as long as an hour wait for a table. A few months ago, people were bemoaning the opening of a Domino's right off Newark and 1st, saying it made little sense that such a place would open there, since no one is interested in their products, and yet they are doing very, very well. I see Domino's delivery cars all over DTJC, EVERY DAY. That's one busy joint. I get that it is "cool" to deride chain places, but the snobbish attitude is definitely in stark contrast to the reality that exists here.

I had dinner at the CF a few weeks ago, it was very good. They have a secondary menu which is a low calorie/ low fat menu with good options, I ordered from that menu not the regular artery clogging menu. Had to wait 1/2 hour for a table but it was worth it. My server told me that this location has turned into the 3rd highest grossing location in the CF chain. I walked by the restaurant Sunday afternoon around 3:30 which is usually a dead time for most restaurants and they were packed. Conclusion: they will do very well without elitist whiners on JC List.
