Re: Protest at Jersey City BP Scheduled for Thursday
Home away from home
Home away from home

Also worth noting, that on the news this morning they reported some paint gun damage to a BP in Manhattan. All damages must be paid by the franchise owner.

On another point, when you buy a franchise, it's a risk because you are affiliating yourself with that company's brand, both the good and bad.

You can't blame people for being frustrated with BP and wanting to do something, anything to show that. And, being Americans, not wanting to travel that far, so the local station is the most convenient.

Azul_the_Cat wrote:
why people would want to protest a locally owned business is beyond me. BP franchises their filling stations, and each is owned and operated by the people who live in your neighborhood. If people want to protest BP they should go to BP, not to a gas station that BP has little to do with other than name.

Geez this is a really constructive forum. I've lived in JC for over 6 years, I'm not worried about getting mugged. I was just wondering if there is any person I can call to complain about this. But instead I get constructive posts as such.

"Yeah, because (partially) closing a PATH station for cleaning at 7am - at the height of rush hour - is a really good idea."

"Really? you're bummed by CLEANING of a path station from 12-3? You're going to be really annoyed when you get mugged."

"Move to a quieter street. It will always be noisy there."

Just looking for friendly suggestions. I mean seriously might as well tell me to install sound proof windows. Or punch out my condo and move it to another location. Heck teleport me to the LOST island land. That might be nice.

But seriously isn't there any place I can call regarding noise? I guess not...

Did you look up the PATH customer service number? Also I think they have a feedback form on their website, so you might want want to explore there.

You could call the mayors hotline. There may be a noise ordinance after a certain time, and you may be able to put in an official complaint, as well as call the police non-emergency number if indeed there is an ordinance. If you really want to get serious you could get other neighbors whom it bothers and do something as a group.

But in all honesty (such a lonely word) they probably do it night because of less trains/crowds so nothing will probably come from it, but you never know till you give it a shot.

Sound proof windows may not be a bad idea. A little expense for a little peace could be worth it.

This is sad but so typically American. I guess Christie doesn't care about the long term damage/issues as long as he doesn't raise taxes because if he raises taxes the world will end. Why not have an emergency tax. Surely if one can spend $200 for dinner, an extra $5 is not gonna kill me.

Why not raise gas, tobacco and alcohol taxes?

What percentage of New Jerseyans do you think spent $200 dollars for dinner in the past year?

Why not raise filming fees, road tolls, make more road have tolls, hunting licenses, create a new lottery, tax soda and candy, up all sales taxes?

Or maybe better yet, get rid of some of the higher up, ineffective, proven to fail Education Suits.

Not mentioned in the above report, and in the lead NBC story last night: The police were immediately suspicious of the owner when they showed up and he somehow had the foresight to lead the police thru the back door - where going in the front door would of set off the device.

If depends if there is an emergency (i.e. new roof needed) and insufficient reserves. There should have been a discussion and vote at least, and not out of the blue.

It may not be the prettiest neighborhood, but I didn't feel unsafe the 2 times I went there. you should be able to park within a block.

Keep your receipt. Comcast called me a month later to ask for my cable box back after I returned it.

from the above link:

"Full time Orange Chief Financial Officer, John W. (Jack) Kelly, works as a tax assessor for other towns, owns commercial property in Orange, and appears to be getting property deals and tax breaks through his City of Orange position.

Kelley worked for the previous mayor and was cited by the 1998 New Jersey Commission of Investigation for "unethical" and "irresponsible behavior" in performance of his City of Orange duties. Read the report and see if you feel your tax dollars are safe."

I can't believe Healy would hire someone unethical, just don't believe it.

Also, that's right by Enos Jones Park. 9th street next to the park is a dead end there, and half the time there is some municipal car park there: cop, parking, animal control... shhhh. It's their quiet nap place.

Well put.
It's like saying if I ran I stop sign, well, at least he slowed down a little.
If they learn it's okay to break those ruse, esp. when someone complains to the authorities about it and nothing is done, they may try to push the envelope and see what other rules they can break and get away with.

Your asking an opinion that is subjective. It would bother some people and not others. You need to decide if you could live with it. The fact that you're posting here could be a sign that you're hesitant. Either way, good luck with everything.

Car depreciation rate is:
2010 23 cents per mile
2008-2009 21 cents per mile

Vega admittedly used it for personal use. Let's say 1000 of the 1500 miles was personal (being generous).

At the lower rate, he stole $210.

What gets me the most is that Vega admitted that he used the car for personal reasons, and so he blatantly used the car against the conditions he was allowed to have it, and doesn't even get a slap on the wrist. Even if it's a verbal reprimand at a council meeting with no consequences, he should be publicly held accountable by having it on his record. Even though he's about to have a record of a much bigger offense.

Or our mayor.

I didn't know they changed the law so council members are now permitted to use the cars for personal use. Total BS.
