Re: JC School Board Election * April 20, 2010 * VOTE

Not sure, but it's really common sence. If you approve of the increase, you want a tax increase.

N.J. school elections Q&A: What happens when school budgets fail

Quote:
What happens if the budget failed?
School districts have two days after election results are certified to deliver defeated budgets to their local governing body. The governing body can trim the budget and recommend reductions in expenditures, or leave it as is. The school board is not obligated to follow the specific recommendations for cuts; it only must comply with the dollar amount. If a school board does not agree with a town?s cuts to the defeated budget, it can apply to the state education commissioner for restoration of the funds. If voters reject a second ballot question, there is no appeal.

Quote:
How much will my taxes increase this year?
Generally, the school part of a local property tax levy is not permitted to exceed 4 percent, although the law allows exceptions for specific reasons, such as loss of state aid or increases in health insurance premiums. The commissioner of education, however, has said the county superintendents will discourage school districts from using these exceptions.

But none of that matters to us. Our city voted for people that did not approve of the oversized and overpaid administration, yet they have no problem with them having more money to blow.

Anyone else has recommendations? Castro's can only make it tomorrow at lunch (according to the receptionist, the "guy" is at lunch, and "he doesn't answer to her"), but I'm afraid our fridge full of food is not going to last until tomorrow (we just did major grocery shopping over the weekend, I'd hate to throw everything out - some of which is already too late).

THANKS!!!

Did Fulop or One JC recommend a vote on the question? Never saw either say so either way.

wow

Almost 60% voted Yes on the question. Some change. Hah.

As for the rest of the state, good job. This is real change.

NJ voters reject majority of school budgets for first time in 34 years

I think a bakery/bagel place would be awesome. I wonder if the rent will be too high though...

Thanks for clearing up the mystery!

The stickers pasted on light posts, etc. are actually illegal.

McCann was hired by the JCIA to remove such pollution and penalize those responsible. It seems he will be payed by the tax payers to remove the evidence of yet another of his crimes.
I hope he is fired tomorrow (he deserves at least that, as do we).

Neverleft, a lot of people didn't vote on the question. They either missed it or didn't understand it. It's accurate to go with the higher number of 10925 (32,775/3). The number of people that actually stepped into a booth is likely to be slightly higher as some may of voted on less than 3 options.

HP right I was just logging in to edit my post to put a "oops" in it...forgot some people don't bother to vote on the question..thanks

I think you are getting the number of voters screwed up....

For now I would go with the total number of votes cast for the JC question from the HC Election site.....that would give you a better number of the JC turnout....right?

Jersey City Question
97/100 97.00%

Vote Count Percent

- Yes 4,467 59.48%
- No 3,043 40.52%

Total 7,510 100.00%

"oops" see below posts...

people really should vote on the questions..

Low profile tires are especially susceptible from what I'm told. I had an old truck for years and never had this issue.

Now I've got a nicer/newer car with 235/45 R17 tires and they clearly aren't meant for the 3rd world driving conditions around here.

Nother regressive tax compliments of JC...

I am so proud that we as Jersey City residents can make this happen! We are up to something good, and we need to keep making those changed in future elections. Eventually, we can feel proud of living here!

Well, if they didn't have enough business, then the rent is too high what ever it is. I tried the Indian food once, and it was a big disappointment. Went in again, thinking that maybe I was unlucky that one time. They claimed to have the best Indian food in the area after all. Huge disappointment again. Didn't go back. The low food quality in my opinion was the death of that place. Yes, let's hope for something great into that space!

porkchopsoda's advice is heed worthy.

Montgomery blew my wife's low profile tires out. Lucky the rim didn't get bent. Even without wheel replacement/hammering out, the tire cost was through the roof.

Funny, I always thought of SUVs and dirtbikes in the urban areas as excessive, but when you're driving over Moon Patrol territory, they're quite practical.

Good luck on those sidewall pimples.

Call 877-270-3520 to schedule a free pick up of your old refrigerator or freezer.

Receive $50 for recycling your old, working refrigerator or freezer.
Save up to $150 a year on energy costs.

http://www.njcleanenergy.com/residential/home/home

The state of New Jersey offers a Cash for Clunkers program for old refrigerators. They will remove the old fridge from the kitchen, haul it out of the house and take it away. Plus you will get $30 dollars for your troubles. A moving company would charge you probably fifty to a hundred bucks to drop it to the curb which has to be on the day prior to your recycling day.

The state of New Jersey also offers rebate checks for buying an energy efficient appliance.

Anyone else having problems with tire blisters due to the abundance of meteor sized potholes?

I discoverd blisters on both driver side tires and will have to get them replaced. I drive less than 2000 miles a year, so no I'm not pleased. I'm convinced these are compliments of Chris Columbus Drive.

Curious if people bother to insure against this sort of thing, I'm told there are options out there.

Agreed. At first it was nice to hear a voice advocating for the dogs, but now you are starting to sound a bit off-kilter. What gives?

The safest place for a dog to be is leashed by its owner's side. If Vigilante insists on letting his pet roam free, he is no advocate for dogs.

OH so true I heart JC.
I think Vigilante is just angry that options are being made difficult for him in Hamilton Park and that he will need to SNEAK around if he lets those dogs off leash. There are to many dog owners that just don't want dogs running around and he is out numbered. It's kind of sad if you think about how he thinks.

I've had this happen several times on my side by side fridge. Check the door .....Sometimes the door falls out of level and does not engage the light switch in the fridge.

How expensive a unit is it? If it's not cooling at all likely the compressor is shot. The time I replaced one it was $400, and it died again shortly after the warranty ran out. You'll pay $100 just for the diagnostic visit, and a new basic fridge delivered is only ~$400.

If it's a side by side with through the door water etc I guess it's worth the diagnostic visit, but that's what I thought too and ended up pitching the whole thing.

I very highly recommend Castro's Refrigeration here in Jersey City. It was easy to get an appointment, the repairman was knowledgeable and the rate was fair.

Willow Ironworks
67 Pollock Avenue
Jersey City, NJ 07305-1109

This is the local firm I see recommended the most and they did a very nice job on a custom basement access door for me, although I didn't work directly with them as they were a sub on a much bigger project.

Our fridge is not working - it's not cooling off anymore (but I can still hear the engine/motor clicking off periodically, and we've cleaned the coils in the back already).

Can anyone recommend what we can check, or who we can call to help take a look & fix?

Thanks in advance.
