If you have a programable fridge then clicking sound is coming from the circuit board behind the fridge. It's a $200 item, an easy fix but you have to know which board it is when shopping for the replacement. When replacing the board there is a high voltage part on it...BE CAREFUL !

Almost all retailers include removal with delivery, and Lowes & HD are including delivery these days.

When I do have something heavy & metal that needs to be taken out, I call a junk collector who's happy to take it away for free.

Wild guesses based on little information are usually not helpful, but...

(1) Does the compressor run? (Can you hear it?) Does the condenser coil on the rear of the fridge get warm? If not, there's a problem with the compressor or controls.

(2) Does the evaporator fan run? (Can you hear it?) If not, there's a problem with the fan or controls.

(3) Does the evaporator fan actually move air? The evaporator fan circulates cold air past the cooling coil (evaporator) and through the fridge (assuming it's a frost-free unit). If not, the evaporator coil may be packed with ice which could be related to a fault with the defrost system. The short-term fix is to access the evaporator coil and melt the block of ice with a hair dryer. It will still need service but will run.

Anyone else has recommendations? Castro's can only make it tomorrow at lunch (according to the receptionist, the "guy" is at lunch, and "he doesn't answer to her"), but I'm afraid our fridge full of food is not going to last until tomorrow (we just did major grocery shopping over the weekend, I'd hate to throw everything out - some of which is already too late).

THANKS!!!

Call 877-270-3520 to schedule a free pick up of your old refrigerator or freezer.

Receive $50 for recycling your old, working refrigerator or freezer.
Save up to $150 a year on energy costs.

http://www.njcleanenergy.com/residential/home/home

The state of New Jersey offers a Cash for Clunkers program for old refrigerators. They will remove the old fridge from the kitchen, haul it out of the house and take it away. Plus you will get $30 dollars for your troubles. A moving company would charge you probably fifty to a hundred bucks to drop it to the curb which has to be on the day prior to your recycling day.

The state of New Jersey also offers rebate checks for buying an energy efficient appliance.

I've had this happen several times on my side by side fridge. Check the door .....Sometimes the door falls out of level and does not engage the light switch in the fridge.

How expensive a unit is it? If it's not cooling at all likely the compressor is shot. The time I replaced one it was $400, and it died again shortly after the warranty ran out. You'll pay $100 just for the diagnostic visit, and a new basic fridge delivered is only ~$400.

If it's a side by side with through the door water etc I guess it's worth the diagnostic visit, but that's what I thought too and ended up pitching the whole thing.

Our fridge is not working - it's not cooling off anymore (but I can still hear the engine/motor clicking off periodically, and we've cleaned the coils in the back already).

Can anyone recommend what we can check, or who we can call to help take a look & fix?

Thanks in advance.
