Re: Property Taxes

I don't disagree with you but there is one thing people forget. While the school board is elected, those are VOLUNTEERS.
Nothing against anyone who runs for the Board of Ed, but none of them are qualified professionally to review and approve a budget of close to $1 billion. Not that many people in the universe are qualified to do that.
I don't have any answers, but it's the system that is fundamentally broken. I think for the most part those people are well intentioned, just way, way out of their depth.

I could never live in Bergen County. I would not feel comfortable. I would sooner go to Monmouth County. In fact, I would sooner live under the Clay Street Bridge in Newark in a cardboard box than Hackensack, NJ. There I said it.

Re: Proposed School Budget Nears One Billion and Portends Big Tax Hike
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

So this bill is tacking on 1/2 of the total school increase and all of the city increase for the year (as even though they just set the budget, it's for the calendar year 2022, so we're retroactively paying it all, since Q1-Q3 didn't include the increase). When I look online, I do see Q1 & Q2 2023 already and it's higher than Q1 & Q2 2022 (due to the increase) but not as high as this current bill. Of course, this all could (and probably will) happen again next year (Q3 & Q4 much higher). The city does not make this clear and I'm sure people are going to argue with me about it, but just call the tax office and they will explain in.

So yes, 1.889 is just an estimate and it may be higher. But that doesn't change the fact that 33% is way off-base unless the is some other factor (besides school funding) causing a massive increase.

I am done discussing this. There is simply nothing to further argue.

This is my tax record on a 2BR apartment in the Journal Square area. 2022 Q4 is almost double the amount from 2021 Q4. Absolutely unbelievable!!!

What does Jersey City have that you would consider paying that exorbitant fee?

Hope your Facebook tech kid does not lose his job with Meta job cuts.

THis tax bill is coming in at a very bad time. Due to Fed hikes and 7%+ 30 year mortgage rates the real estate sales are slow as well if you wanted to sell the place.

I say vote all of these incompetent people out of city hall who voted yes on the budget. Vote them out at County level as well. I say renters have a stake in this too. As a landlord I passed down the tax increase to my tenant and blamed city hall showing all the data.

If the state is cutting fuding for schools then increase the payroll tax on those who work in JC and live in the suburbs.

I know I am not going to vote for any of these people at JC Board of Ed in 2 weeks and I suggest you all do the same! THese politicians and School board need to know they need to figure out a solution and don't put the blame some where else last minute and pass a highly inflated budget.

This doesn't take away my anger or frustration. But it does seem that at least for me, other options would be more expensive at least in terms of real estate taxes.

come to fort lee, buy a turnkey townhouse for 800k, or a 2br/2ba apt for 300-400k, many direct buses to 42nd st, and it's not in the middle of nowhere suburbs either.

At current rate, i will be paying $17,000 / year in property tax for a 1br condo. I imagine the newer fancier condos will be hitting $20k / year for 1 br in property tax. It's god damn insane, especially considering how shtty the schools.

First your database will be leaked or sold to the highest bidder which they will use with whatever their intentions are. Next if there are e-mails found they will be e-mailed that their information has been sold or leaked and your http://jclist.com was at fault thusly damaging your reputation and having angry customers/associates with whatever angry customers/associates do. Lastly any links that you have indexed in the search engines will be de-indexed based off of blackhat techniques that we used in the past to de-index our targets.

How do I get Bitcoins?

You can easily buy bitcoins via several websites or even offline from a Bitcoin-ATM.

What if I don’t pay?

If you decide not to pay, we will start the attack at the indicated date and uphold it until you do, there’s no counter measure to this, you will only end up wasting more money trying to find a solution. We will completely destroy your reputation amongst google and your customers.

This is not a hoax, do not reply to this email, don’t try to reason or negotiate, we will not read any replies. Once you have paid we will stop what we were doing and you will never hear from us again!

Well, to start with, Harold's twin brother is Raymond (Ray) Kopf, not Richard. Even the Times gets it wrong sometimes. Richard is their older brother.
Harold did not go to the park; he was dumped there. The perpetrator was a "friend" of the family. I don't know if the man was arrested and convicted...it was a horrible time for Ray, and he's a little hazy on some details. He does remember being told that the guy had a bad accident, and died from his injuries. Ray always believed there was more to it than just an accident, but the only person who could have told him the truth about that died years ago.
I don't have many more details, other than yes, Harold was molested and then beaten to death. Nothing about any body part being cut off, although I have to admit, they might not have shared that information with Ray...he was only 11 years old at the time. Ray really doesn't like talking about it, as you can imagine. Harold was his identical twin, and he still feels the loss. Even though he is now 54, I still won't share that bit of information with him. He doesn't need to hear anything new about the incident - proven or unproven - that would just make it worse for him. Thankfully, he's pretty much a technical troglodite, so he asks me to look things up for him online. I won't be showing him this thread, although I will let him know Harold has not been forgotten.

Here it comes...

State regulators on Wednesday approved double-digit rate increases for four gas providers serving millions of customers in the state, with prices expected to rise by hundreds of dollars on an annualized basis for some people.

PSEG, which serves 1.9 million people across the state, was granted a nearly 25% increase, which would amount to a $256.38 a year hike to the "typical" residential bill, according to the state Board of Public Utilities. BPU commissioners also approved a 15.8%, $258.72 annual increase for New Jersey Natural Gas and its 568,000 ratepayers.

No Dog Lawns in Hamilton Park and Leash Laws

I often wonder how much money the City of Jersey City can make if they did a sweep twice a week ticketing the folks who walk their dogs onto the Dog Free Lawns of Hamilton Park and double down on the folks who run their dogs off leash. I find it fascinating to watch ostensibly educated people walk right past the Dog Free Lawn signs with their dogs. It's like they're not the slightest bit thoughtful.

Re: Winter home energy price shocks coming

I have a property in New England that I am worrying a bit about. The New England power grid with coal and nuclear being phased out is almost completely dependent on natural gas. The pipeline capacity was never expanded to provide enough gas to keep the lights on during cold periods. Blackouts were only avoided by switching over to no. fuel oil (power plants are generally dual fuel) and getting emergency imports of liquefied natural gas from Russia.

Fuel oil stocks are dangerously low due to shipping so much of it to Europe. Russia? Well.. not sure if that LNG shipment will be arriving this season, given the current political situation.

I am looking into a backup generator and one of these to heat the place:

Never thought I would see a manufactured energy crisis like we had back when I was a kid. Odd / Even day policies coming back regulating when you can get gas for your car?
