A 28-year-old man was shot in the torso yesterday morning in Jersey City and police are searching for the person who pulled the trigger, authorities said.

The man, who was shot in the area of Bergen and Lexington avenues at about 10:10 a.m., was taken to RWJ Barnabas Health's Jersey City Medical Center in a private vehicle, according to radio transmissions.

The alleged gunman is known to police, who said in radio transmissions he is wearing a black hoodie, black pants and black Air Nike sneakers.

Joe Shine, freelance photographer for The Jersey Journal, said four shell casings were found on Lexington Avenue.

Jersey City spokeswoman Kimberly Scalcione said the man underwent surgery and is not in stable condition. Police officers attempted to question the victim, but he was uncooperative with detectives, Scalcione added.
