Hudson County prepares for Tropical Storm Elsa to bring heavy rain overnight

Updated 4:38 PM; Today 4:10 PM
By Teri West | The Jersey Journal

Flood-prone sections of Hudson County are bracing for Tropical Storm Elsa and what it may leave in its wake.

The storm is heading up the East Coast and is expected to pummel New Jersey with its heaviest rains overnight and into Friday morning with 2 to 4 inches landing on Hudson County.

The National Weather Service placed nearly the whole county under threat of major rain

Models are shifting the storm to the east, which means a non-event for us, if this turns out to be the actual track

The US and two hurricane tracking models are showing a cat 1 or 2 hurricane hitting Florida and then tracking up the coast. It looks like mainly a rain event (like Irene). The GFS model has the worst case for rain for us (see below). The other models are more in the 3 inches of rain category.

Caveat: Early model runs. One model shows the storm breaking up over Cuba.
