Winter has already come to Westeros, but George R. R. Martin is also feeling a bit icy ahead of the final season of ?Game of Thrones."

I saw a videographer in the back of the theater, in the one aisle. I would love see parts of interview again. Martin is a really funny guy, and his connection to Hudson County is genuine and touching.

It was a great event, and John Hodgeman gave the great man time to expound. He was a delightful interviewee, with a lot of fun nuggets about JC and Bayonne.

Any chance it was being recorded?

How George R.R. Martin's family history in Bayonne inspired this 'Game of Thrones' character

Updated Nov 21, 1:46 PM; Posted Nov 21, 12:46 PM

By Corey W. McDonald cmcdonald@jjournal.com The Jersey Journal

JERSEY CITY ? George R. R. Martin comes from a great dynasty that once "held lands" in the southern peninsula of Hudson County.

And just like the heroine of his novels, Daenerys Targaryen, it was all swept away before his time.

During a appearance at the Landmark Loew's Jersey Theater on Monday night to promote his new book "Fire and Blood," the Bayonne native offered a fascinating glimpse into how his own family history may have influenced the creation of the popular "Game of Thrones" character ? the last remaining member of a once-powerful family in the fictional world of Westeros.

Fresh off "Game of Thrones" winning the best drama award at the Emmys, George R.R. Martin has announced he will debut his latest book in Jersey City.

On Saturday, Martin, a Bayonne native, tweeted news that he would be launching his book "Fire & Blood" with a talk hosted by Word Bookstores at Loew's Jersey Theatre on Nov. 19. So, yes -- as ever, winter is coming.
