Just the space. Definitely aware of Departed Soles.

Not sure if you are referring to the location or just the space, but there is already a microbrewery 2-3 blocks down the street.

This is actually by far the best use of the space I've heard proposed. Could easily fit everything needed and still have room for a bar with pub food coming out of the Talde kitchen.

It seems like anything tied to the carrino name turns to shat.

@Brewster--very slowly we are getting a few places our way. O'learys is a great bar with good food and very reasonable prices. Still waiting for the Ocean Ave renaissance though.

Since you live in Bayside Park, you should be celebrating. All the great, reasonably priced businesses will be rent refugees heading your way, among other upcoming spots in JC.

I have definitely noticed price creep even among the bargain set. A great lunch under $8 is getting harder to find.

As an aside, I dont see B&G doing much if anything in the community. Am i missing something? Are they sponsoring any events or giving to local food banks, etc?

You don't go to SH for conversation or the food, you go to be seen. The food is not good and the crowd is bizarre, I went once and it was a circus.

Yes, a lot of the Chelsea restaurants are super loud, now that they draw in a more straight, young crowd. But you could still find a lot of NYC restaurants that aren't so super loud like South House and Talde. Regardless, I don't understand the point of it. How can you carry on a conversation at dinner when the music is crazy loud and the other patrons are trying to speak over the loud music. I would like to try South House, but the loud music is a non starter for me. Quote:

Heck, if Staten Island can pull it off, JC certainly can: http://ny.curbed.com/archives/2015/12 ... all_at_empire_outlets.php

People don't want corny "lounges" in cavernous spaces, which is what B&G was ... it's not 2004 anymore. People don't even really want fancy anymore. Urban people today want simple, informal, tasty, fun, group oriented eating. Just look at what Anthony Bourdain is doing at Pier 57. Look at how food trucks are still popular. Look at ANY place opening in Kings or Queens counties these days.

Actually this is much better than my idea.

Never stayed around to eat.... was craving the perfect vodka martini and planned to have dinner. They did not have martini glasses and served it in a glass that looked like a 4 inch high finger wash bowl with a 2 inch diameter across the top. They said all their mixed drinks were served in that. Paid the $12 and left.

The thing is....the Italian menu at Osteria was very good. I ate there 4-5 times and was never disappointed, either with the food or the cocktails.

Yo if they open a game bar I'll burn it to the ground myself.

But seriously, they gotta get somebody attached to that space that understands what people psychologically want in terms of being drawn into a space. Don't put everything waaaaaaaaay in the back. It's weird. I don't want to have to do an awkward 100 foot walk to get a drink.

Anybody see the holiday market they had in there? First day it was shoved all the way in the back where the Osteria used to be. You couldn't even see it from the street. Just the cavernous B&G bar that was always empty. Next day they wised up and put everything up front to draw people in.
That's like a microcosm of the entire problem with this place. Make me want to come inside.

How about a karaoke bar with 2 pool tables, 4 ping pong tables, 3 foosball tables, that only serves spicy curly fries dipped in bone marrow, taylor ham sandwiches, 4 beers, 3 cocktails, and lets you order food from other restaurants?
I would go to there. I'm thinking an actual fun game bar, like Fat Cat on Christopher, not like the Barcade.
Both Barcades kinda suck, but the JC one I think needs an interior designer (not decorator) to figure out some lighting and how to deal with the unease the central emptiness brings.
I can't believe I wasted time typing this out; it'll obviously be salt storage for the food next door at Talde.

Interesting. Walked past it last night and it was closed up and dark, with a notice posted at the door saying they were closed for a private event, but this was around 7 PM and no sign of activity or prepping for the event that was supposedly happening that night.

What a waste... when can we look forward to the next incarnation of a tv-saturated bar?

On the whole I've enjoyed most dishes at previous Carrino's and the newest incarnation B&G. I just wish they had some lighter fare dishes. The 2 salad options are lackluster and the rest of the menu items are loaded with cheese, deep fried or laden with heavy sauces.

Obviously everyone has different tastes because I liked everything about this place. Every dish I had was perfect (fried chicken, oysters, pasta, ribs, two salads). I thought all the prices were fair and the service was friendly and helpful. I'm surprised people are not thrilled about it.

Anyway, decent space to have some food and watch a game. Hope they work the food out.

Same thoughts on the wings, ribs and beer. While mac n cheese is obviously not that unique, it was quite good. Didn't try the burger b/c when I asked the server about it his response was it's better than McDonald's. Overall kind of disappointed, since I am a fan of the food and atmosphere at Talde. They should provide the ability for customers to leave feedback other than bashing them on Yelp, JClist, etc.
