No, I am not Nicole or Ed. I live around the corner from OX and pass by on my way home. I know Sandra the manager. She used to be the bartender at Marco and Pepe.

I could care less if either Nicole or Ed wrote any of the above posts...I'm glad to see restaurant row spreading down Newark Ave since it will improve the nightlife here. I wish the best of luck to whoever owns the place - and I'll definitely be there.

I just got a postcard that says they'll be open by the 16th.

Talked to Ed the co-owner, who confirmed it.

And no, I'm not Ed.

my guess is that by "talked to the manager" she means that she was talking to herself.

The mixed drink OX has chosen to call "Jersey City" (listed under Sweet and Savory Cocktails at $9.50) gave me a chuckle.

Gotta love the name!

Looks like the JC will feature Knob Creek Bourbon, Cherry Brandy and Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice.

Here's the rest of the drink menu for those who are curious...

http://oxrestaurant.com/fall07_drinks.pdf

Seriously though...

It sure would be nice to have another Marco and Pepe alternative here in the 'hood.

I look forward to giving the place a try.

And not so seriously though...

This new cocktail discovery tempts me to ask a fun question of those who frequent this list...

If you were to concoct a drink named Jersey City, what would YOU put in it?

:D

But how on earth do you pronounce it? "Oh Ex"? Or, gasp, "ox"? Or do we just call it "hugs and kisses"?

Speaking of which...
who do I have to sleep with to get me a JC Whole Foods?

1. We will pronounce in Auch (soft X) - in the hope that the menu features some Gascon dishes
If we pronounced it OH EX and the food was poor, people would soon call it OH EX LAX
If we pronounce it Ox - people will anticipate tough meat and slow service
If we pronounce it Hugs and Kisses all the macho people would refrain.

2. You could sleep with me - no guarantee - but I have some ideas

Am I totally gullible, but are we really getting a Stew Leonard's, Wild Oats, patisserie and artisanal cheese shop in downtown JC? LOL.....someone help me out here...

I did hear at one point we were getting a Whole Foods....??

I'd be happy with just Stew Leonards!

No, it's the one going in between the Wild Oats and the patisserie/chocolatier.

But seriously, they are pretty far along. I just hope they can stay afloat after what must have been a massive financial investment. Anyone else remember when they had to close Newark Ave the dig up their sewer line?

This place is terrible. The chicken is undercooked-they haven't even started cooking it yet. The service is super-slow. I'm still waiting to place an order.

I spoke with the owner while passing by about 2 weeks ago, there will be a bar, and some darn good beers as well!
