I'm surprised you use the park, don't you have a bathroom at home?

As for your pet, I look forward to seeing him in the dog run.

I would expect they will start ticketing more once the dog runs are in place. Having a really small dog, I stopped taking her to HP after one big dog kept trying to grab her, and the owner just laughed and said "I think my dog thinks your dog is a squeaky toy." Yea, that's great. Could you just grab your dog please?
Being a dog lover I don't have too much of a problem with dogs off the leash, as long as the owners pay attention, but it's against the law and people have legitimate gripes against it.

My dog doesn't run loose. A dog-run means lots of dogs all in one place, jumping on each other. My dog is harmless but doesn't like being penned in with other dogs, it makes her nervous. I don't use dog-runs, I use the park and will continue to do so in the future.

BTW. They just chased everyone out of the park except, of course, the basketball players. They are scared of them.

I am so excited this is finally happening!!! I wasn?t in the neighborhood for the voting, so I?m just hoping that someone thought about planting lots and lots of trees in the playground. It?s boiling hot in there in the summer! That metal slide is like 10,000 degrees in July! Looking forward to the new park! I hope there?s something for everyone and that we begin to be mindful of each others? needs?.kid people, dog people (dogs on leashes now that you have a place), basketball people, cricket people, sitting on benches people, picnic people, all kinds of people?..And, everyone, please let?s keep it clean!!! Bottles, and garbage, and broken glass, and dog poop, and baby diapers, and all sorts of junk??Use the trash cans already!!!!! Hopefully, there will be no excuses and no complaints when it?s done!

hate to break it to you but I'm pretty sure the reason the dog parks are going in is cause the grass will be off limits to dogs. Usually that is the way it works and hopefully that is what will happen. Then we (humans) will actually get to enjoy it and not have to look out for land mines all the time.

Good Luck with that.

I didn't say I was going to try to enforce that. I'm just hoping it happens. They have classes to train your dogs if you don't know how to do it yourself. Then they can enjoy the dog parks with the rest of the dogs.

As the owner of a dog who is terrified of the off-leash dogs when leashed but is happy and well adjusted when inside enclosed dog runs where she can be off-leash (VVP, Echo Lake), I sincerely hope the off-leash thing comes to an end. My dog would like to be able to enter the park too, I'm sure. She's a greyhound and can't run loose (not to mention I like to follow the law).

The entire park is going to be closed? Does anyone know how long? It's really going to suck not having a place to go when the weather is nice.

They aren't digging with shovels. Two downtown residential projects dug holes this winter.

thanks for the quick reply.

May I ask why one whole quandrant of the park is not being touched at all? and why the dog runs are right next to tennis courts? Could they not be one on either sides of the park? Seems like all changes are on one half of the park.

According to the plan, where will the dog run live? I can't tell from the PDF.

There will be two dog runs - one for large and the other for small dogs. The location is just west of the two tennis courts - the area between the courts and the gazebo.

"Also.... OMG the size of the new playground area is huge. Maybe too big???"

FG - there needs to be space for dogs to run off leash, and there will be. Please also recognize that there are families and children in this neighborhood (which is part of what makes it a great place to live). Those kids have dealt with cramped, inadequate and broken playground equipment for too long. They need a better place to play and we owe it to them.

There is a tractor in Hamilton Park and not 20 feet away, someone sitting on a bench. There is fencing blocking the entrances, but I guess there must be openings on the other side, where I can't see. Oh well, as long as no one gets hurt.

I hope the dog run areas have those air lock areas to put leashes on like the ones at Van Vorst Park.

The way the plan look now is just a single gate which may mean escaping dogs when one person wants to leave.

Please include the air lock feature.

Also.... OMG the size of the new playground area is huge. Maybe too big???

One thing that will be nice to see will be the removal of concrete walls and stuff.

Too bad they couldn't renovate the park one quadrant at a time.

But I'll take it. At least this is finally happening. How long was this on the drawing board? I remember like voting on proposals at the Gazebo like 3 or 4 summers ago.

Crazy lag time.

FG

Thanks for posting the plan. So those two spaces next to the tennis courts are the dog areas? I'm looking forward to having an area where my dog can run around a bit.

Yes, people were ignoring the orange barrels today. This is an extremely popular and heavily used park. We're going to miss it while it's gone, but I'm looking forward to improvements!

Is the city going to put up signs announcing the park closure? People are very confused and it would be a joke to just suddenly close the park without some kind of warning. There is gonna be a lot of pissed off people if tomorrow the park is closed. Not everyone monitors this site for news.

The final plans are now available for viewing. See:

http://www.hamiltonpark.org/PDFS/Hamilton.Park.2009.pdf

If you have problem viewing the file in your browser, try downloading it and open with Adobe PDF viewer. The plans were subject to change for the last year, but this should be the actual layout.

Looks like the city dropped off some barrels today. Every entrance was blocked by these although people simply ignored them and were using the park. It is going to be a battle trying to keep people out of the park. It's gonna be a Loooooooong summer if these guys don't do this job quickly.

It starts this week, possibly as soon as Monday or Tuesday. I saw the architects hanging around the playground w/ their plans last Thursday. I asked them how long the project would take, and they said the whole park would be closed for a couple of months. I know they prob had to wait for the ground to thaw, but it's a shame that they have to start now that the weather's getting nicer.

Scheduled to start right after Columbus Drive gets paved and Atomic Wings opens.

I understand the JC Whole Foods is going to cater the re-opening.

Thanks for your question, 4bailey.

The resolution to approve the winning bid is on the agenda for the Council meeting on Wednesday, 3.25.2009:

From http://www.cityofjerseycity.com:
z3. Resolution authorizing the award of a contract to Green Construction, Inc. for Hamilton Park - Renovations, Project No. 2007 -007 for the Department of Administration, Division of Architecture.

We should receive the final plans/drawings late this week, after the contract is awarded, and will post as soon as we get it. Of course the drawings will be available for all to view.
