I think the power is back on on 10th between Jersey and Erie. I am in Queens now however I just tried connecting to my WiFi capable thermostat. I was able to control it using my cellphone while in Queens. Previously when the power went out I lost the ability to control it via WiFi. Seems to me the power must be back on then.

Jersey City water safe to drink

http://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/20 ... to_drin.html#incart_river

Jersey City officials say that water pressure in the city is fine and that the water is safe to drink.

The Office of Emergency Management made the announcement after rumors circulated in the city that the water was unsafe.

Both the water and water pressure are fine, officials said early this afternoon.

United Water officials also said the water is safe and there is no need to boil it in Hudson or Bergen Counties.

Any other source for this? There is no alert on the united water website. So far it looks like this us the only news source saying the water is bad.

NY Waterway will be running tomorrow at Paulus Hook. You can escape by ferry.

Not a whole lot of enforcement going on with that driving ban. I watch JCPD driving behind people ignoring the ban and basically leaving them alone.

So about this DRIVING BAN ... I understand that people have forgotten to obey traffic laws with regard to non-working stop lights. I understand that emergency vehicles need to right of way. But a ban on driving on the city streets? Thank you for stranding everyone indefinitely. Most of us have food and water. Some may not. I was planning to make a break for Queens tomorrow to stay with a friend until our power comes back. Am I going to be arrested? Our tool of a mayor is silent and then decides his one act will be to deny mobility. Thumbs up, Jerry!

Just heard Christie say in his press conference the only areas with boil water alerts are Atlantic City, New Brunswick, and Highland County. Sounds like JC is good for now.

I live in a ground floor unit at liberty harbor north. Just drove down to a friends place in Edison for Internet and shower after being without phone, power Internet since last night. The basement level of the garage definitely got flooded and grand street was under three feet of water at one pint last night All of those new businesses are in a real bad shape, the healthcare office and serenity day spa in particular .

thats all i have seen. i wouldnt risk drinking it with all the flooding we got. I know that NYC said their water is good because they put extra chlorine into the system. not sure about ours.

Jersey City is implementing a zero tolerance policy banning non-emergency vehicles from the roads in order to keep the streets clear for emergency vehicles and the effort to cleanup the mess left by Hurricane Sandy, officials said at 3:15 p.m. today.

I'm stuck in florida and cant get back to my apt and wife. just found out my ground floor property in liberty harbor had over 2' of water, mostly backflow from the toilet or tub. Looks like I'm gonna need recommendations for someone to come in to do clean up and repair since I cant get back in time to do it myself.

I heard mandalay and avalon both have power and cable working, so if you have friends there now is a great time to show up with a bottle of wine and make yourself at home.

Hoping everyone else is safe and dry.

Hoboken, Downtown Jersey City cut off from each other by flooding

By Charles Hack/The Jersey Journal
October 30, 2012 at 12:17 PM

Jersey City and Hoboken were cut off from each other this morning by flooding along Jersey Avenue, Grove Street and Marin Boulevard north of 18th Street,

Cars and pedestrians alike found the area impassable.

Several SUVs tried to enter Hoboken from Jersey Avenue but were forced to turn around.

Paterson Plank Road in Jersey City leading to Paterson Avenue and the 14th Street viaduct in Hoboken is closed to traffic.

Pedestrians can walk down 14th Street into Hoboken however.

The industrial area north of the 14th Street viaduct is under water with a large parking lot filled with yellow vehicles half submerged, leaking oil into the water.

Streets on the west side of Hoboken south of 14th Street are also under water for as far as the eye can see.

Despite a curfew until 1 p.m. people are walking around the city near Washington Street. Police vehicles with loudspeakers are warning people that it is an emergency and people should be indoors.

One of my wife's friends emailed her to say power and water has been restored to their building in Newport. So progress is being made.

Breaking Weather News: Governor Chris Christie has announced that the PATH system linking commuters between New Jersey and New York City will remain out for the next 7-10 days. The Governor says commuters will need to rely on ferries like they did after the 9/11 attack.

A good portion of the Heights has power. The house across the street from me has a tree sitting on the power lines.

I managed to find an open gas station on 1&9 near the Rt 3, Circle / interchange. Hopefully the gas will be enough to keep the fridge, some lights, and the internet going until PSE&G gets around to my block.

The power really got crazy last night (on and off) when the storm surge was rolling in.

from what i understand virtually all of JC is without power and there is still flooding downtown. Power may be out for a few days.

Fios is working, but Verizon cell service is almost kaput. What I heard on the radio was that Zone B in NYC flooded.. People got killed and buildings burned up.
