Very Important for the victim of the break-in to proceed with the trial or whatever you call it. I caught a car burglar in October of 09' and he's still in Jail. So if you're the victim and you're reading this, please go to court etc. I cannot stand this kid, and his brother. I knew he was an annoying, drug-dealing gangsta wannabe but I didn't ever dream he'd get caught breaking into a car.

poo bags are nice to have but....I save EVERY plastic bag whether it's for groceries or a six-pack. Those black bags that they give at the liquor store on Coles work great. And they're free. Just saying....

are you talking about on the corner of Monmouth and Newark where Nia's Cafe was? I think it's going to be a noodle place. And I also think it's Rue, like the French Avenue, not Rogue....but i could be wrong. I'll have to look when I go by today.

Yeah, the sign should be at either 6th, or 8th.

Anyway, in light of Police budget cuts, how about this...

since the police are supposed to patrol traffic as well,

Just. sit. at. any. of. these. trouble. intersections. and. give. out. tickets. all. day. long. and. make. your. 8. million. back. rather. than. some. lame. radar. that. everyone. knows. is. a. joke.

end of story.

But, I know it. will. never. happen.

They've always done that. That's Danny's towing's turf. It's not a scam, it's a scam when you park illegally. They make money off of idiots trying to park for free. They wait, and they tow. They are probably contracted with BJ's etc and I don't blame them because imagine if you wanted to shop at BJ's and couldnt' get a space?

So, I do like the fact that more and more of the educated JC tax payers are showing up to fight this sytem. One doesn't have to look to far to find a smart activist who has the best interests of JC at heart. I also like many of the neighborhood and activist groups that have sprung up to make JC into a great place. Bike JC is one such group. More and more small business owners are throwing thier hat into the ring to better this place as well. Other than that this city is still in its infancy in my opinion and we all know we can't just abandon a baby.

I agree with 81905. And downright, don't give up hope! I love what Fulop is doing. Even if he was wrong, at least he is bringing attention to this. I never even thought, or questioned before what a fireman made. I think they should get paid well, but not that well. It is obvious to me, that with the help of people like Fulop that corruption, and cronyism will be exposed and not tolerated. As in all politics, there will always be corruption, but the information is so much more available and viral these days, that I think the hacks' days are numbered here in JC. Educated people (if you want to call them yuppies, go ahead) are learning by the day that cities are far more sustainable than the McMansion ideals of the suburbs. You will see more and more caring individuals, business owners, entrepreneurs and the likes deciding to move in, or stay in JC. Because of this, and technology, more people will question what the hell is going on and local politics will be more and more important to the daily lives of these individuals. I promise you. Stay where you are people. Don't move out, and don't give up. Oh, and if you need a career, hurry and make some phone calls and join the FDJC and cash in on those numbers before they diminish!

I am sorry for whomever's car that was, and I am glad it didn't hit me or someone else walking by, but it sure was funny seeing all the a-holes who cut down Monmouth every day (to get to the tunnel who speed, honk, run stop signs etc.) get all backed up on 5th and having to deal with the 5th and Jersey Ave intersection nightmare. Haha! Poetic Justice.

Yeah, I think Feed Your Soul was selling the retail spot and/or equipment.

I also have a great suggestion for you: Farmers' Markets! They are everywhere, are growing even more popular, and the rent is much cheaper and less risky than signing a lease etc. As a matter of fact, that's how at least one of the bakeries mentioned above got their start before opening a retail store.

yeah, the potential loitering drug dealers are actually outside of Frank's pizzeria/Rivera's Grocery on the corner of 4th and monmouth. I'm watching though, and I have cameras. I will catch them if that's what they are actually doing. Either way, they are young adult losers who obviously don't work for a living and make people walking by uncomfortable. And no, they aren't black.

look; Sam Pesin is a sweetheart, and I appreciate all he does for that park, but I wouldn't rest the future of this potentially great city, in his hands.

At first glance I was opposed, because I use the park, and I use it often. i don't want to see it get ripped apart.

BUT, At second glance, I think there is PLENTY of reason to explore this idea. Sam, and LSP friends should at least discuss this with the Mayor, and the public, and even create demands and expectations from F1 should the event ever come to fruition. To just dismiss it altogether is disgusting.

Do you really think there would be much financial benefit to the people and businesses of Jersey City? This would be advertised as a New York City event and almost everyone would stay and spend money in NYC. Maybe a few folks will stay at the Westin and eat at Fire and Oak. Same as All Points West and the Barclay's Golf tournament.

Sure it would. Even if it was small. There would be a few jobs, and it would raise some awareness of JC. It might be slight, but you and I both know we could use all the help we could get. If you don't think that sold out hotels in JC etc don't effect the restaurants and a handful of businesses whatsoever, you are nuts. It's not going to make us all millionaires, so spare me... Also I know they would say it's NYC and fine, that's what happens when you are NYC's neighbor. Big deal, but let's move on from this close-mindedness and negativity. There's no reason JC cannot be a decent and progressive city.

Let's take a look here at successful locations of F1. They don't look like they ruin the World Class locations below! As a matter of fact JC doesn't belong in the same conversation as these cities....But no we wouldn't want the hacks of JC to be forward thinking would we? We'd rather have the same old S#@& we've always had.

I don't think I want F1 in that park but, boy does it point out even more, to me, the boringness of that park. I often run there, and take my dog....but that park resembles more of a field or a desert than anything else. If not for the amazing views of NYC, the statue, and the small refuge for a couple swans or whatever they are....the park is useless. There should be baseball fields, soccer fields, tennis courts, maybe a pond, swimming pools...gosh maybe even a few more restaurants or a shop or two. Why not? It's HUGE and nothing is there. It's not like you have to knock down a tree to do it, because there aren't any there! I've been there so many times and other than that little playground area where people bbq, and the ferry terminal, the park always seems empty to me.

I thought APW sucked for the most part anyway. It made the park smell like crap from August on, it did nothing for this city, and the bands weren't great. Ooooo Coldplay! Cause I can't see them at MSG where the sound is better anyway.

I love the fact that the festival failed because they couldn't get any "big" names to draw enough people to pay for all of the Air Conditioned tents, trailers, and bathrooms for all of the sissies out there. Here's an idea....scale it down! This ain't Woodstock!

If LSP wants to get serious about music, they should check out Central Park's summerstage. Smaller set-up and higher quality bookings. I would love that.

Great neighborhood. I have only 2 complaints.

1.) Trash on the ground. Mainly in the form of pizza plates from the High Schoolers/city workers

2.) Noise from the Barge Inn (Music Box for those few blocks) from the occasional fight.

With that being said, I love everything else about the hood so I am determined to apply pressure to these businesses and the police to shape up.

Main thing is you need to put (201) 547-5477 in your cell phones, or speed dial. It is crucial. The Police Chief has records of these calls, they do look at them, and when you call you are speaking to a local dispatcher. They know the area and they speak directly to the officers which creates a quicker response than 911.

Most important thing is YOU HAVE TO CALL!!! Every time. No matter how classless these people are they, or the bar owners are, sooner or later they will most likely get sick of police presence.

Why do you believe that? In my case it's merely returning to the cracked leaky sewer from whence it came. Where do you suggest someone pump thousands of gallons of water? The tiny patches of backyard that only some of us have? What's definitely NOT code is pumping it onto the sidewalk where a freeze would create a nice hazard. It can be run under the sidewalk to the curb, but almost nobody does that.

I spoke with a friend in the biz, and he said in Hudson County you CAN connect with sewage because sanitary and storm drains all are one. i was wrong.

BUT my one neighbor DID connect his pumps to the municipal sewage line AND....he had a GEISER of shit coming out of his toilet during a storm because I guess the sewage couldn't handle all of the water. Maybe we should put our pump water into the gutter and down the storm drain so it doesn't back up our shit water? I don't know.....It's all speculation, but I do know that I am sick of dealing with a flooded basement.

Sorry to hear that. We were in your shoes in April '07 but fortunately we were home when the flooding happened and were able to do something about it. In our case, the sump pump pumps water into the sewer system. It was working, but at a certain point, the JC sewer system became backed up and there was no where for the water from our basement to go. The only solution was to pump the water out into the sidewalk, which I did with a portable pump I have.
You'll probably notice that a lot of your neighbors have pipes coming out to the sidewalk from their basements. I don't think this is to code, but it should take care of the problem. Alternatively, you can buy a portable pump, keep your eye on the weather and make sure you're home when this happens. FYI, we had 3" of rain over an 11 hr period. You should benchmark your risk of flooding to the amount of rainfall.

as far as CODE, I am 99.9% sure that what is NOT "to code" is pumping water into the SEWER SYSTEM! I think that's illegal.

Re: JC ordinance requiring credit card for hotel/motel rental

Not true.

You need a credit card to GUARANTEE a reservation at a hotel. In other words you need a credit card to "reserve" a room. But, you can always walk into a hotel and get a room on the spot and pay cash so long as a room is available. It's called a "walk in." If you do and choose not to use a credit card, you will need to pay a cash deposit in order to "post charges" to the room such as movies, internet, food etc. or for incidentals.

Yeah, I've noticed a few piles on monmouth street between 4th and 6th. There are a few right next to the embankment on monmouth, and that makes sense. That's a great spot for a car theif beceause no one will hear the window break because in that part of monmouth between 5th and 6th there are no residences. Not that people don't break into cars in front of houses, but I would say that is not a safe place to park.

Also, I had my car broken into, and GPS stolen, but I had NO BRACKET or mounting, or the GPS visible. The guy took a chance and found my Garmin in the glove box. Stupid on my part still, so now I take it out of the car always. Too bad I caught the thief in action and he is in jail now. I'd love to catch some more.

I have to disagree with the OP and some of the supporters on this thread. Jersey City is NOT the ideal candidate for this Google Internet Service. Unfortunately, I fear that there are a disproportionate number of people in our area who would abuse the service, and take advantage of the opportunity for technological advancement and growth. It's sort of the same reason that we don't want a White Castle on Grove Street. Imagine your children, walking past city hall, only to be subjected to junkies pleasuring themselves to mobile porn, or Latin King members using the googlenet to perform coordinated attacks against bodegas. It might take a while before it gets to that point, but I genuinely believe it's a possibility, and should not be taken as an exaggeration

I've got bad news for you....you can do this already. All you need is an ipod/phone/touch or any other video playing thing.

Also, your argument is weak. I am sure parents thought the same way about hi-speed internet and cell phones in the beginning. Look at the world now! Although I doubt JC will be chosen, it's inevitable that this service will be available to the world sooner or later anyway so why not take advantage and try to move our city forward??? We can either try to put JC on the map, get some technological advances or sit here and watch the world drive by us like it already has been doing.....
