I definitely agree that the 4 bedroom/1 bathroom situation is a huge problem. My husband & I live along & we can barely negotiate the 1 bathroom in our loft. That would be a tough sell if you're sharing the house with roommates, etc.

I would also agree that it might help if you painted the place, the current colors are a bit much. It's the first thing I notice when I walk into a place.

And we just saw that 296 8th Street is now on the market too but at $1.1 mil asking that's not in our wheelhouse!

The place that sold the same day was a 2 br condo in Hamilton Square, really nice place.

The places we bid on but didn't get have thus far been: 3 br condo in a brownstone and two separate 1 family homes.

All in Harsimus Cove/Hamilton Square area.

We've been looking for a bigger place and in the past month and a half we've been involved in 3 bidding wars. We lost all of them.

We stopped at an open house on Saturday just to check the place out & in the 30 minutes we were there (we arrived when it began at noon) the buyer received 2 offers, went with the 2nd offer & sold it before the open house was over.

It's absolute insanity in downtown Jersey City right now.

As a long time JC resident that has been looking to move up into a bigger property, I've had several recent offers on homes nixed due to last minute cash offers. I love JC, I have no intention of leaving, I would as a homeowner take impeccable care of whatever home I purchased and support local businesses but perhaps I now have a better sense of why my offers couldn't compete. I can't pay cash for a home. But I bring other benefits, I would be a good neighbor. So I guess as nice as it is that they're fixing up these homes, for someone like me it's frustrating to compete with a cash buyer that just plans to rent the property out.

Are 70 & 72 Essex St also going to be rentals? Looks like they're close to finished, just walked by this morning.

Ordered from Blue Moon last night, I was hoping to love it but unfortunately it was meh. It wasn't the worst Mexican I've ever had but it was far from the best. It was disappointing. I feel like I need to go to Taqueria today to make it better, there is no comparing

Sorry if this has been addressed here & I didn't see it but has anyone worked with an architect to renovate in downtown JC? I've never worked with one before & I'm not sure how much they typically charge or what you get for their services. Can anyone fill this uneducated newbie in? Much appreciated.

Jersey City woman tells cops she was robbed by 3 teens in street

A 45-year-old Jersey City woman was robbed by three boys Downtown at 10 p.m. Sunday, officials said yesterday.

The woman told police the boys, who she said appeared to be from 15 to 17 years old, were in front of 97 Bright Street and when she walked past, one of them pointed a handgun at her and shoved her, a police report says.

The robber snatched the Jersey Avenue woman's purse containing $20 and all three boys walked away heading north on Varick Street, the report says.

The victim told police the boy with the gun was wearing all black clothing and a black hat with white lettering on it, the report says.

On Fifth Street, about 10 blocks away, a man was robbed by gunpoint by three boys
on Friday night.

Anyone with information on either robbery is asked to call the Jersey City police tip line at (201) 547-JAIL.

first mention of any of this in the jersey journal. i thought it was bad enough that it was a 12 year old, now they're saying 10 year old.

Man robbed at gunpoint by 3 boys, one may have been 10 years old, cops say

JERSEY CITY ? Police are looking for three boys ? one who may be as young as 10 years old -- who robbed a man at gunpoint in Downtown Jersey City on Friday night, authorities said yesterday.

The 27-year-old victim told officers that he was on Fifth Street between Jersey Avenue and Erie Street at 9 p.m. when the boys pointed two handguns at him and demanded what was in his pockets, a police report said.

The man turned over a cell phone worth $700, an identification card valued at about $500 and $200 in cash, the report says, adding that the boys ran away heading west on Fifth Street.

The Fourth Street man said the boys were wearing shorts, one of them appeared to be 10 years old and another was about 15 years old, the report says.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call the Jersey City police tip line at (201) 547-JAIL.

does anyone have any thoughts on the 140 bay area? we've been looking around there & i just can't make heads or tails of what is going to happen there? right now it feels a bit desolate at times, lots of empty lots.

we've also looked at hamilton square, love the building but feels like every time a place hits the market it's gone just as quick.

the 9th & Erie site is going to be a rental building, construction is set to begin soon. they will also start construction on the second majestic theatre building shortly. the hamilton park site (where they just opened up the parking ramp) will be third on their list of construction projects. they won't start that until the rental building & the majestic condo building are done. all 3 projects are silverman.
