Re: Stucco Styrofoam pieces all over my block

I just called the owner and spoke with the head contractor.
He was very nice and said he's going to have them net the property to contain it. But if anyone has information about what to do in the case that the contractor is not as nice. Others in Jersey City must have run into this problem. Thanks.

Stucco Styrofoam pieces all over my block
#2

Home away from home

For the second time this summer someone on my block is putting Styrofoam stucco siding on the back of their house. When the workers sand it, little beads of white Styrofoam blow all over the place like it's snowing.

The last time it was a mess. It was all over my plants, backyard future, between the pavers. It clings to everything. The worst part was it clung to my cats and they tracked it all over the house. It took me and my husband all day to clean it up. He literally had to vacuum the pavers.

Now it's starting again. I don't know what to do. How can this be legal? I've seen other construction sites (MY school) where they use a vacuum to help contain it, like a bag attached to a sander or lawn mower.

Who can I contact to find out how to protect my property from this Styrofoam blizzard? I spoke with the construction guy but he was no help.

My cat has an injured ear, and I'd like to have him seen by a vet tomorrow. Any recommendations for a vet who is open on Sundays would be appreciated.

We have a fake iron stove for our basement, and we love it. It's cheesy, but it's really cute and warms the room up fast.

I actually ended up finding lots of organic/ non-gmo plants at Home Depot.

Regarding pesticides, there's a company called Nature's Good Guys that sells all kinds of beneficial insects. Every year I buy a bag of ladybugs from amazon to control aphids.

What was that? It sounded like a building collapsed, and the whole house shook. I'm on 9th Street between Cole's and Monmouth. Hope the fire damaged 139 overpass didn't just collapse.

Thanks for all of the help. I ended buying 160 bags of garden soil from home depot on sale.

I heard the garden center on Kennedy is closing to make way for condos. :(

I'm making large planter beds for vegetables. Any recommendations for a place that sells garden soil in bulk? Organic or at least safe for veggie gardens would be a plus.

Thanks in advance.

You might find this helpful while you sort out your problem. Nutrition Action is a great resource for all things food and health in general.

My husband and I got so jerked around by realtors that I got my real estate license to learn how to deal with them. If I recall from the real estate class, all written offers must be presented to the buyer within 24 hours. Call the New Jersey Real Estate Commission and ask them. Good luck.

Re: Feds Are Now Monitoring JC's English Learning Programs - JJ

I teach ESL in an elementary school. The reading and writing portions of the ACCESS test are not easy, and I can't understand how students are testing out if they are not proficient in these subjects. There are plenty of English speaking kids who wouldn't pass ACCESS.

And what's the deal with the home language surveys? The parents of every child who registers should fill one out, and if they speak another language at home the child should be screened. Period.

It's such a shame that so many students are slipping through the cracks in JC. It's really tough for LEP kids in school, and my heart breaks for those who aren't being helped.

Thanks for sharing this. It's really interesting.

Wow. Talk about cherry picking an article. That's all you got from that article?? The essence of the article, for those who will not bother reading the lengthy text, is that corruption in Atlanta reached the highest levels. Teachers chose to cheat by changing test scores, for many different reasons. But, test cheating by teachers is a form of CORRUPTION.

If you had better comprehension skills and were able to make inferences while reading a magazine article, you would know that the essence of the article is not that cheating in Atlanta reached the highest levels. The essence of the article is that cheating, like the rampant cheating in Atlanta, occurs because teachers and school systems have their backs up against the wall due to the unreasonable expectations of reformers and politicians.
