Many of the original posters are on www.wiredjc.com. I don't like the Yvonne vs. Anti-Yvonne posts either. It's just sad. But I appreciate the dialogue on certain issues so that I can hear different opinions.

We loved the Veterans on Horses, a new addition to the parade. I tried to post a photo but I do not know how.

The kids and I will head over to the "newly renovated" 100 year old - Samuel R. Shelton VFW Post #2294 now for their celebration!

Re: Enos Jones Park Closed - Lead Contamination

It's really sad. PS#5 Kids have seen their park closed a 2nd time due to lead contamination. These kids constantly have to live with this. And yet, they manage to cope and exceed expectations. The 4th and 5th graders had the highest PARCC scores in the district. And now the Middle School kids won $20,000 in the national Samsung Technology Contest. These kids deserve the best!

Support our kids at PS#5 and tweet #samsungsolve #samsungsolveps5 so that they can win an additional $80,000.

They are in close competition with East Greenwich High School in this social media contest where only the 15 finalists can compete.

Thanks, I wouldn't troll if it wasn't important.

Hello longtime friends of JCLIST! I just figured out how to tweet and instagram so that I can support the girls whose AIR Freshner project won PS5 $20,000. AND they are one of the 15 finalists in the National Samsung Technology Contest. This is a grammer school up against 7 high schools! PS#5 can win up to an additional $80,000 in a social media contest. Please tweet and instagram every day until April 1st, #samsungsolve and #samsungsolveps5. The rules are no retweets and must have both hashtags. Thanks to those who have been supporting us every day. I love Jersey City, I love my kids, and I love our JC Public School! Thanks Mr. Padilla for proving that GIRLS DO STEM!!!![/center][

To assist in documenting the problem, you can have the Resident Response Center report the violation to the Housing Code or Health Inspector.

You can also call the JC Tenant and Landlord for advice on your rights. Just a note that the agency can only advise and not mediate.

Good Luck!

Re: Rolando Lavarro--Council at large--proven responsive

Yes, I would definitely add that I first met Rolando when he was a Board Member for a youth group who just received an art grant. I think this was about 8 years ago. I didn't really know him then but met him again at a Board of Ed meeting about 5 years ago. He was asking why Epps rejected a Drug and Alcohol awareness grant. On and off, I would see him at various community meetings but continued to be at different groups at the time.

Then, the 2009 arrests came and I met Rolando yet again. It was at this point where I met a very different Rolando. He (and many others) could not believe the reality of illegal politics and the need for honest politicians. From that point on, he was dedicated to bring honesty and professionalism back to City Government in Jersey City.

And it was at that point, that I believed in him! And today, I still do!

If property owner illegally tapped into the sewer line in the back and not the front (even if this is done prior to your ownership) then the property owner must fix.).

The dye test is quite clear. If it is the dye from your toilet and it leaks to the street then it's your leak.

You don't have to vote for both, just Rolando. Many are voting Rolando Lavarro and Dan Levin.

I wasn't happy about the bracketing but the truth is that there has to be a bridge with the "others" -- people who are new to reform in JC and still old school. Richardson is breaking up with the Old School band. What will happen in 2013? Will the "others" go away? disappear? move? quit their civil servant jobs?

There has to be a bridge.

Funny Chakotay.

When I've met with Rolando Lavarro and other reformers, we've agreed that there are too many tax abatements being overused in the downtown area. He thinks that they can be used as their intended purpose (to encourage economic development) in other areas of Jersey City. Therefore real income can come into the city through the established downtown area and real economic development can occur in other areas of Jersey City.

At one of the Council meetings, he discussed why the budget process didn't allow the public or city council sufficient time to see the proposed budget. It's unprepared, unprofessional, and leads the public and government officials a sense of urgency to approve or else.

For me, I am interested in seeing a candidate bring money in (thus lower my taxes) and create jobs through economic development.

At any rate, I do believe that work/community experience and knowledge of Jersey City is very important. And I am a strong believer of community organization and its value in Jersey City.

BTW, that Pam Andes is super smart.

Re: 2011 Board of Education Election - Vidya Gangadin- JC Mom for School Board!
#29
Home away from home
Home away from home

Hello! I am a parent of 3 children and Parent Council Member at PS#5.

I am supporting Vidya Gangadin. She is a mother of 4 children who attend County Tech High, Academy 1, and PS#38. I met her through the Jersey City Coalition of Parent Teacher Organizations who meet monthly to share school issues like security, funding, curriculum, etc. She is Vice President of Parent Council at Academy 1. Note, that most McNair High School students come from Academy 1 due to its Advanced and Enrichment Program. And she serves in the Parent Advisory Council of Board of Education where she is part of the dialogue with the Board of Education staff. She is unlike many of the other candidates, they can count on one hand how many times they have attended a BOE meeting.

TEAM Fulop developed an interview process for all people who wanted to run for Board of Education. This process consisted of committee members with diverse backgrounds to select 3 candidates who would serve Jersey City families' best interests. I have the highest respect for these dedicated, unpaid community volunteers. The process was open to all people. Unfortunately, Vidya Gangadin was too late to interview. I believe that if Vidya had the chance to interview, TEAM FULOP would have selected her as one of their three. I am voting for Vidya and 2 of candidates from the TEAM FULOP slate.

I will attend the next BOE forum, Kids meet the Candidates, at Ferris High School on Wednesday, April 13th at 6pm. I hope you will too! We will have students from various schools asking the candidates the questions.

Vidya Gangadin is a financial analyst. I've seen her look at BOE Budget and quickly point out areas of contention. I've seen her among all the other parents who work full time and still find the time to go the School meetings and discuss similar problems and solutions. She is the ONLY candidate with a financial background.

As a result and because I have seen her in action, I believe that Vidya is the best candidate.

Thanks for reading!

Re: 2011 Board of Education Election - Steve Fulop backed candidates

Thanks everyone for taking the time to write and discuss the candidates. I think it is very important that we choose for ourselves who is the best candidate to vote for.

I have met all 3 candidates that Steven Fulop and without a doubt, they all have specialized skills to bring to the Board of Ed as a Member. They are also independent from the machine so I can certainly appreciate this important point.

However, as an active parent with a first grader in JC Public School system, I have seen throughout the year(s) Vidya Gangadin discuss many battles that parents have with their own school system. Of course, it is a shame that Vidya joined in the candidacy too late and could not be considered as part of the Fulop team.

But, at the end of the day, it's my vote.

I am very interested in hearing all of the candidates speak at the forums so that I can make my own decision as to who to vote for.

Can someone post all of the forum dates? again? Sorry if I missed it!
