Yep its usually fun, bar in the front room with dj and the back room has a dance floor. Kind of expensive, like $8 for a Corona, good place to end the night for good music/dancing

my friend is a huge top chef fan and is visiting for the weekend and I think that we are going to head over (I have been a few times when they first opened.. I agree with PP - it's not bad but the bill turned me off to going there as a casual "hey let's grab something cause I don't want to cook tonight" place and put it into "date night" area which it wasn't the best atmosphere for)

any thoughts on a crew of like 6 people going there Saturday night at like 7/8 pm? do they do reservations? we wanted to just get an appetizer or two and a drink (the idea is to do a bit of a "bar crawl" around JC since her and husband are from the burbs w kids and "never do anything fun")

also thinking of a taco and margarita (or tequila shot) at Orale and maybe a drink and the bacon wrapped onion rings at Southhouse (never eaten there but heard that app is good and the drinks are great)

any other stops you think that we should make (mainly on Newark/Grove restaurant row since its going to be a little cold Saturday night and I rather not be walking all over town)

figure if we are still hungry after that we can always get a pizza or something late night

I would skip Talde for sure, Downtown Taqueria is off the main drag but I think the guac is deelish and margaritas better than Orale. Not a fan of South Houses food (first time I went tried the bacon onion rings, just tasted like a big piece of bacon, nothing special at all), def 3rd and Vine, Archer, good choices.

Tried this place Saturday night, only had a martini and the brisket nachos. They did put a lot of brisket on the nachos but the whole dish was totally flavor less. The martini and ambiance was nice

since moving to JC a few years ago ive noticed a metal like noise that could be what you are referring to, its usually late at night. Almost sounds like a freight trains breaks. Not sure if its what you are hearing as well

Ive been to the club several times, when I go directly out the front door on the porch area I have never noticed the music being loud, their back room is soundproofed, only the front dj stand would be possible to hear from outside.

What exactly is white trash food? Is it white trash because its from the South? Or because its chicken and biscuits?

Lovely ambience, they have a dart board near the bar and will be having a shuffle board league soon, they have a good beer and wine list, I ordered the regular burger, added bacon which came w/fries, my friend had mac n cheese and jalapeno biscuits. The burger was very tasty, fries were good .Mac n cheese and biscuits just tasted like salt. A diner next to me at the bar had the fried chicken bucket, he said once he took the skin off it was good but the skin was inedible due to how salty it was. Looks like they have a good happy hour during the week till 6.

On Wednesday night someone came by and cut my bike tires, 2 other bikes on the same corner had the same thing done and this is the 2nd time this has happened here. Anyone else experience this? I made a police report, the cops said it was not something that they have been running into, so just wondering if this is an issue that others are having and have yet to report?

anyone have the scoop on when the game room will open?
is it better than soul flavors? better than dinos? better than dallas bq?

I agree regarding prices being way too high, that is the main reason why I had one drink and called it a night. But also, I am pretty sure they are going for the music venue/dance club type of vibe, which is always over priced on drinks. Its def a place that I will frequent only very rarely due to prices. Id rather spend $50 on a nice dinner than a few drinks at a club

Nothing fancy beer wise, I asked what the choices were and the bartender listed 5 or 6, regular stuff like Bud, Corona, etc. I did not read the cocktail menu but my friends that ordered mixed drinks had vodka and tonics and rum n cokes. I am pretty sure the cocktail list just had basics but I could be wrong

Checked this place out last night, it has a nice bar with lounge
and dj booth up front and live music space in a rear room.
Very cool vibe here and great music. In addition to my group
there seemed to only be one other group there but it was still
early in the night when I left, (just before midnight).
Drinks are priced like clubs in Manhattan,
$13=15ish for mixed and around $8 for a bottled beer.

agreed regarding the food, I ate sushi there once and ordered to go once, both times it tasted awful and was overpriced for the portion. Did they really change the name to "Box Spring"? Saw it was painted underneath "box" the other day, I thought that was just a joke on JC List regarding the name

Ive never dealt with anything like it before, and was in total shock over the whole situation. I did not know if I called the cops afterwards if they would even do anything about it since he was no longer around. The episode was 3-4 minutes so I did not have much time to make decisions. The reason why I decided to post about it here, is because after processing the situation I realize that if this happens again hopefully someone will report it knowing that it was not just a one time incident.

DTJC Pervert ALERT

Wanted to share in case this happens again in JC, on Monday, Memorial Day around 7PM I was sitting out side at the tables at Abbys waiting for a friend, I hear from across the Street a man making loud, obvious groans towards me, he was in the parking lot next to the church, caddy corner from Abbys on a bicycle. I realized he was simulating masturbation while staring at me and continuing to groan. So I ignored him and a few minutes later I look up and he is standing directly over me on the other side of the gates that separate the tables from the sidewalk, doing the same thing with his hands, and he requested that I give him a cigarette, I first ignored the question and when he started repeating it I loudly told him to LEAVE, which he did after about 3 requests, he rode off on his bicycle. He was a white male, probably mid 30s, a heavy set guy. I did not make any reports. Just a heads up in case anyone else runs into this pervert.

PATH >N/Q to Astoria>bus to LGA---yes this is the one I use, Its never taken 2 hours for me to get there, maybe if you are in sit still after work traffic, 20 min tops once you get on the bus usually. The M60 that picks up to LGA from Astoria Blvd is a select bus and you never have to wait long for it to arrive.
