So when I pass by the Joan of Arc statue in Riverside Park in NYC, I guess I should have viewed it with disdain because "not Murica"? WW1 was not "an event in America", and WW2, aside from Pearl Harbor, was also not. This may shock you but the world is a big place and what happens elsewhere impacts us here.

Also, curious if your rule also applies to art galleries and museums. Should they also exclusively include art and historical artifacts exclusively from the US?

You understand that there is wildlife in and around reservoirs, right? And wildlife poos and urinates in the water? Fish, birds, raccoons, possums, etc. There is also air pollution that gets absorbed into water. This is, of course, why it has to be purified before use in any case.

If you really stop and think about this, you'll realize that your position here is silly and that it should, of course, be open to the public as many reservoirs are.

I'm always bemused when people are upset that immigration law is enforced. People in the US illegally are, by definition, not legally allowed to be here. Why would they be given a pass to remain here?

If you are committing a crime you absolutely SHOULD be constantly looking over your shoulder! If you get caught then that's how it goes. If others want to avoid the same fate then they should leave.

Drugs, prostitution and guns are futile battles because economics has a way of fulfilling demand even when the demand is illegal.

However, I'm not sure illegal immigration really fits that bill. It requires an obvious hole to exploit - an unsecured border, a lack of deportation, a lack of will to actually punish violators, etc. I could secure the border tomorrow for fairly cheap with no new wall whatsoever. I'll throw down landmines everywhere. 95% chance of death if you try to cross the border other than through a designated crossing. I'll leave the dead bodies to rot in the minefield as a warning to others. Of course, no one really has the appetite for that, so instead we'll spend billions on walls. But don't tell me it is impossible, when it is perfectly possible.

Welcoming non-citizens to the United States has long been one of our highest priorities. Full twat.

1. Even if true, my statement and your statement are not contradictory. It is up to the country as to who to accept and under what circumstances.

2. It isn't really true. While we have accepted immigrants, it is because of the perceived benefit they could bring us. Where we decided they were harmful, we didn't let them in.

3. In particular, we're now primarily talking about immigrants that did not even come in a legal, acceptable way. There should be serious consequences for that in order to discourage it. Otherwise, what is the point in jumping through the hoops of legal immigration?

4. I love the bleating of the liberal sheep. So sure of what they think they're entitled to. It is going to be a great 8 years.

5. I fart in your general direction.

First, I did read about Anne Frank. That is not the same comparison. Jews do not plant bombs in our country trying to overthrow democracy. They do not practice Sharia Law. There is nothing that I have read that requires them to kill 'unbelievers.'

I fundamentally agree but I'll note something else: even though Jews during WW2 were far less dangerous (in fact, probably as much of a model refugee community as you can imagine), accepting millions of refugees at the start of a world war would have been exceptionally taxing from a resource perspective, and millions of people from foreign lands would ultimately change the culture of this one dramatically. Therefore, I don't think the US's stance of accepting some Jewish refugees but not simply accepting millions wasn't unreasonable. The fact that the US has a refugee program doesn't mean we're obligated to accept every refugee that needs a place to go, then provide them with food, shelter, clothing, etc. at taxpayer expense. No non-citizen has a right to come to the US. Full stop.

It really does seem like the dog owner's responsibility to take care of their dog, and part of that means proper containment. It shouldn't be up to everyone else to properly contain someone else's dog.

Further, if the neighbor's dog(s) destroyed his fence, it seems like it would be the neighbor's responsibility to fix it.

Sounds like it is the neighbor that is the problem.

I don't know the laws in most other cities. Obviously the law isn't going to change fast enough to address the situation, so the OP has no choice but to make a solid fence on his property.

But the OP may be right. Perhaps the law does have to change.

You must not have read the thread. If the dogs destroyed their fence then they can sue in small claims court. You obviously don't know what the law is, so why are you proposing that it change?

We're not doing any cable service, mind you, just the Internet and cell phone service which is especially attractive these days as you can hop on one of those $45 a month unlimited talk text data plans.

I only spend half my time working from home (other half is at Indiegrove downtown) but I've never had any issues with connectivity or strength of signal.

Yeah, same. Everything is relative, but I'm paying for 75/75 and regularly getting like 83-85mbps both up and down.

yes i agree the dogs should be corralled or contained. neighbor already said no. you have an option to put up a small non temporary fence to the area where they can jump over. you either dont want to pay for the fence or you have other issues with neighbor and really dont care about what you are complaining about.

you can not force someone to do something on their property. if you are the one who is afraid then you put the fence on your property. by the pictures it looks like it is just your deck that meets their deck to where they can jump over. you were directed to buy a couple of fence poles, wood fasteners for fence posts to bolt down to your deck and fencing material. what is so complicated. you and a friend can do this in about 2 hours with no construction skills or pay a handyman to do it for you. a petition is not going to do anything.

also in your first try at the petition you complained about them having parties and loud music. sounds like you are using the dogs as an excuse to get back at them.

Nobody believes me, oh well. Two technicians said it was the equipment that serves 20 units, installed in 2011. At times I get 50mbs but it averages 20% or 25% less. I hadn't checked the speed for years so this may have been the case for a long time. The only reason I recently checked was because downloading some large files, something I don't often do, was extremely slow.

Anyway, went through the entire drill and more with Verizon on the phone - reset modem, router, unplugged both for 5 minutes, changed all cables, etc.

Did they schedule an actual service visit? If you want something to happen (changing wiring, trying a new router, etc.), you need techs to come out.

I hate talking about this stuff; it only gets me riled up.

But... I had a problem with FIOS. The speed was a fraction of what it was supposed to be. Long story short... the tech came out, did a temporary fix and the speed is better, though not what I'm paying for. As it turns out, the equipment is already outdated (installed 6 years ago) and needs to be updated. I live in a mid-size condo bldg. and building mgmt has no idea who to contact at Verizon. They tried.

In any event, I don't want to pay for a speed I don't get. I spoke with seemingly someone at Verizon who gave a hoot, a supervisor in tech support. He said he would deal with the upgrade issue as well as having someone from billing call to adjust my account. He also left a number where I could reach him, though he said he would contact me the next day, a week ago now. Never happened. The phone number he gave me just rings endlessly.

Par for the course, nothing promised happened. Billing tells me there's nothing they can do and no one knows who the heck to talk to about upgrading the equipment for my section of the building. I've banged my head against the wall enough times with Verizon FIOS and don't feel like jumping through hoops again. However, it's highway robbery to have to pay for an Internet speed that they cannot provide. Unfortunately, the only competition is just as bad, if not worse. Help!

Actually, your issue is most likely with the building, but not its wiring or the equipment installed in 2010/2011. As you know, we used to be neighbors, and I started having issues with FiOS connectivity after they started renting roof space to the cell repeating antennas, which causes interference with wireless networks. I know it was that because, if I connected to the router via hardwire (direct cable connection to the router) I could get the advertised 25/25 speed, but as soon as I went to wireless, the signal would drop to 5 Mbps, sometimes 1 Mbps. Before blaming it on FiOS, or the building wiring, I would rule out the interference issue. PM me if you need some more information or help.

Yep, and that's the first step. Connect directly to the router via ethernet and see what speeds you're getting. Totally different set of issues if the problem is the wifi.

So is your point that it only took one Mastiff to kill an adult, as opposed to two pit bulls to kill a child or what?

In any event, dogs can kill. My two Mastiff breed dogs can easily kill pretty much anyone without a weapon. Guess how many break ins I've had? Guess how nervous these news stories make me?

You guys just aren't too bright with this stuff. Therefore, you probably shouldn't be getting large, powerful dogs.
