I have to agree that a city owned park on top of the structure is just asking for trouble. A woman got mugged at knife point last week walking down Mercer at 6:30pm. What do you think is going to happen to a woman walking alone in that park?

Get the area rezoned for only 1 or 2 family brownstones and let it be developed. The city does not have the money for anything else and won't for a very long time.

Wow I walk down Mercer between 6:30 and 6:45 every night. Guess I might be switching to Montgomery. At least there is more traffic and less places to hide.

I drove by the 4 houses this weekend and to say the area is rough is putting it very mildly. I actually like two of the buildings but as much as I want to can't convince myself it would be worth the risks.

I know someone who got pulled over downtown last week for failing to stop the proper distance from the corner at a stop sign. The person did stop the proper amount of time but apparently was supposed to stop 5 feet from the corner and not at the corner. Really? THe JCPD had to waste their time with this when there are so many other people to pull over.

Please forgive me if this has been discussed somewhere else in depth but....

Let's say the recall is successful for Healy. Who is the candidate that everyone would like to see as the next mayor? There does not seem to be a great pool to pick from.

We have been using Paul for a year now and have been happy. Our dog is a VERY active 3 year old German Shorthair Pointer. He just loves Paul and the afternoon play group for big dogs. He used to bounce off the walls when we came home from work despite me running long distances with him in the morning. I still run with him but now he is actually tired at night and goes to bed way before we do!

We use: http://www.paulthedogwalker.com/

He does individual walks but also has play groups. We pay $20 a day for about 4 hours of our dog being out of the house and playing with other dogs. Much better deal then a 20 minute walk in my opinion.

I know a project manager for the construction firm that built many of the new towers downtown (Grove Point, Columbus Towers, Trump, Crystal Point) and they did not use Chinese drywall.

I think you are blowing this a bit out of proportion.

Just got an appraisal done on Wednesday to refinance and they are asking why we are using a legal 4 family as a 3 family. They want some kind of documentation saying we are allowed to use it as a 3 instead of a 4. We are going to talk to the appraiser directly to see if we can clear it up.

Re: Drywall Issues

I have dealt with this issue at work and the majority seems to be in Florida. Really nasty stuff.

See below from http://www.chinesedrywallclaims.com/

The defective drywall, also known as wallboard, gypsum board, or plasterboard, arrived at about 2 dozen ports around the country with 7 of them in Florida, but including New York, Texas, New Orleans, and California. During the housing boom after Hurricane Katrina, among other storms, from 2004 through 2006, the strain on the supply of domestic drywall required many builders to resort to international suppliers to fill the demand.

Many imported drywall from a German-based company, Knauf, with subsidiaries in China (such as Knauf Tianjin). Reports are showing that millions of pounds of Chinese drywall entered the US during this time frame and that is was used across the country in thousands of homes, condos, and office buildings. Most foreign manufacturers stopped shipping drywall to the US in 2007, after the building boom was over.

However, it has been discovered that another manufacturer, Taian Taishan (based in Taian, China), continued to ship large quantities of drywall to New York and Port Everglades into the summer of 2007. It appears that at least 550 million pounds of Chinese drywall have arrived at US ports since 2006. That is enough to construct 60,000 average-sized homes.

We aren't there yet. Rents are stagnant or falling. There are a lot of people renting out properties where the rent income does not cover expenses, let alone capital improvements. You can go about a max 5 years with new construction before you start to have to put money back into the property. Unless there is a big uptick in the economy, we will be having a lot of people walking away from their properties.

We have actually seen rents increasing the last few months. A 2 bedroom apartment that took a month to rent out last September at $1700/month took 2 days to rent out this time for $2000/month and we had two other couples who were waiting in line for the deal to fall through. This is in a 4 family brownstone. We have rented out 5 brownstone apartments in the last 2 months and all of them are getting higher rents then our other comparable apartments.

New construction buildings are a whole other story I am sure. Seems to be a scarcity of nice brownstone apartments on the market.

A. If you have to question whether it is alcohol poisoning then you should just make the call.

B. Better then the cost of a funeral.

C. It is a state law. http://www.njpn.org/wp-content/upload ... ifeline%20legislation.pdf

What is wrong with it? I think it is good to let minors know that if their friend might have alcohol poisoning they can call an ambulance and not worry about getting in trouble for underage drinking.

The new Liberty Landing Marina building (right next to Liberty House) is going to have wedding receptions upstairs but from the looks of the place might be a while until it is completed.

They are also going to have a restaurant downstairs with a bar outside.

We combined two apartments into 1 so we got the forms for both floors. I completed one and sent back with the explanation. I happened to be outside talking to a neighbor and a group of census takers came by asking questions. They must have come back to me 5 times over the next hour because they forgot a question. Finally I told them I was done answering question. Over the next few weeks they knocked on the door a few more times. Seriously how hard is it to ask a few questions and check a box?

If only I had pictures of all the PATH riders who just stared at my belly while I was pregnant and did not offer a seat. I am small to begin with so it was not like there was any question I was pregnant. Probably only 2 out of 5 trips did someone give me one.

It is a very nice place. All the children looked very happy and well taken care of.

For the price it is an unbelievable deal if the schedule works for you.

They are closed all of July and they close at 5:30 daily. I work in Manhattan and my husband drives an hour to work so the 5:30 pick up just won?t work for us unfortunately.

Marco & Pepe is no longer dog friendly. My husband tried to stop there for a beer with our dog on Saturday when he saw some friends eating outside. The waitress took his order then came back with the beer and asked him to leave because of the dog. Why bring the beer then?

We went last night and thought it was pretty good. I am from TX though so my BBQ standards are pretty high. For Jersey City, it is good food.

They were very nice and made us a platter to sample all the different meats. Unfortunately they were out of the Mac & Cheese.

Definately will go back to grab dinner but wish they had seating. It is more of a catering place that also serves food. The outdoor space is only going to be for special events. Apparently they got robbed two weeks ago so you have to order at the window and are not allowed inside.

We have used Kennedy Tile on Tonnelle Avenue many times. They have a big granite yard on site and low prices.
