Fulop-Menendez feud erupts in stunning war of words ahead of Jersey City mayoral election

Updated Jan 15, 2021; Posted Jan 15, 2021 By Peter D?Auria | The Jersey Journal

The frosty relationship between U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez and Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop is plunging to sub-zero temperatures.
As Menendez?s son, Rob Menendez Jr., considers challenging Fulop in the Jersey City mayor race later this year?.

This reminds me of that classic 1967 episode of Star Trek "The Squire of Gothos". In it a spoiled son ?General? Trelane is given an entire planet as a private playground by his God like parents. He tries to turn his kingdom into an earth like place. Since he has NO experience of what earth is like he does this by using what he has learned from reading old newspaper articles and books about the planet earth and its citizens. He captures his ?pets? Captain Kirk and his crew to inhabit his playground. His lack of experience in the ways of earth of course leads to his utter failure. In the end he is defeated by Captain Kirk and his God like parents are forced to take his planet playground away for him.

KIRK: In fact, you've got a lot to learn about everything, haven't you?
(Kirk slaps his face)
TRELANE: I'll fix you for that! You cheated! You haven't played the game right. I'll show you!
MOTHER: Trelane.
TRELANE: No! No. You said I could have this planet.
FATHER: This has gone far enough.
TRELANE: You always stop me when I'm having fun.
FATHER: You're disobedient and cruel. We've told you before.
MOTHER: Time to come in now, Trelane.
TRELANE: But I don't want to come in, and I won't. I'm a general, and I won't listen to you.
FATHER: Enough, Trelane. Come along.
TRELANE: But why? I didn't do anything wrong. I was just playing.
FATHER: We said, come along.
TRELANE: But I haven't finished studying my predators yet.
FATHER: This is not studying them.
MOTHER: If you cannot take proper care of your pets, you cannot have them at all.
TRELANE: Oh, but I was winning. I was winning.
FATHER: They're beings, Trelane. They have spirit. They're superior.
TRELANE: No, no. You saw.
MOTHER: You'll grow up, Trelane. You'll understand. Now come along.
TRELANE: Oh, but you said I could. You promised. I never have any fun.
FATHER: Stop that nonsense at once, or you'll not be permitted to make any more planets.
TRELANE: Oh, but you saw. I was winning. I would have won. Honest.
FATHER: No, Trelane.
MOTHER: No, Trelane.
(The spotlight contracts, and Trelane gradually vanishes)
TRELANE: I would have. I would have. I would have. I would. I would. I would. I would.
FATHER: Captain, we regret that the life paths of yourself and your companions have been disturbed.

Demand for Jersey City?s on demand ride service, Via, rises

Updated 3:31 PM; Today 3:31 PM (11/30/2020)
By Joshua Rosario | The Jersey Journal

Demand for Jersey City?s low-cost ride-hailing service, Via, continues to rise with more than 63,000 rides completed during the third quarter of 2020, Mayor Steve Fulop said.

City officials are hailing the program, which provides rides in vans and cars for as low as $2, as a major success. Fulop said the data shows the city?s low-income and diverse populations are benefiting the most from the service.

Hudson County voters have cast over 160,000 ballots so far, a turnout that appears to indicate the county will meet or exceed its vote total from 2016.

Hudson County Board of Elections Clerk Michael Harper said voters in New Jersey?s most densely populated county have cast ?160,000 and change? ballots so far, with ballots continuing to stream in through the mail and drop boxes.

?We?re keeping up,? Harper said. ?I?m very happy, proud of our progress.?

'Citizens of Jersey City are the winners?: Jersey City, Kushner moves forward with Journal Square project

Updated 3:51 PM; Today 3:51 PM (10-18-2020)
By Adrienne Romero | The Jersey Journal

After years of legal dispute, Jersey City, the Jersey City Redevelopment Agency (JCRA) and Kushner Companies have reached a settlement, dismissing further litigation.

Construction of the proposed Journal Square twin towers is now expected to begin next year and will include a 10-level parking garage for residents, a retail and amenity space, Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop said on Saturday. But the one thing the project won?t have is a tax abatement.

I thought it was bad that NJ?s mail in ballots can be received by county election boards by 8 p.m., Nov. 10 ? a week after Election Day but NJ will go blue anyway, so I guess it doesn?t matter. But the below news just can out today about Wisconsin a swing state. Gee so a swing states results won?t be known until a week AFTER the election. I see lawsuits galore from whichever side loses.

Judge gives Wisconsin voters more time to return absentee ballots

Patrick Marley
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel September 21,2021

MADISON - A federal judge on Monday gave Wisconsin voters an extra six days to get their absentee ballots back to election clerks this fall in a broad decision that also will make it easier to hire poll workers.

Anticipating an appeal was likely, U.S. District Judge William Conley immediately stayed his ruling, writing that it wouldn't go into effect for at least a week. If higher courts uphold his decision, the nation will have to wait for a week after Election Day to get full presidential results in a crucial swing state.
Conley's decision came four days after clerks around the state sent more than 1 million absentee ballots to voters. Absentee voting is expected to hit a record this fall because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Conley ruled that absentee ballots would be counted if they are postmarked by Nov. 3 ? Election Day ? and received by clerks by Nov. 9. Ordinarily, ballots must be in the hands of clerks by the time polls close on Election Day.

** **
PS ? NJ mail in ballots:

1- New Jersey will mail a ballot to all active, registered voters for the General Election.

2- When your ballot arrives, read it carefully and follow the instructions to complete it and return it.

3- Ballots can be returned by mail with a postmark on or before November 3, 2020 to be counted as a valid ballot by the County Clerk if received by 8:00 p.m. on November 10th. Ballots without a postmark that are received within 48 hours of the closing of polls on November 3, 2020 shall be considered valid.

(November 2020 is going to be a mess in New Jersey??hmmm imagine if they did change the outcome 2 months after the election.. lol)

New Jersey Herald
By Kyle Morel Posted Sep 14, 2020 at 1:51 PM

More than 1,600 Sussex County ballots from the July primary election were found last week and quickly counted, said Board of Elections Administrator Marge McCabe.

The ballots did not change the results of any races, McCabe said in a statement on Monday.

The 1,666 ballots cast in the July 7 primary had been placed in a ?mislabeled? bin in a ?secure area? at the board office and were not discovered until Thursday.

After notifying the state Attorney General?s office of the error last week, the remaining votes were counted Saturday and certified by the county clerk?s office the same day. According to the Board of Elections statement, the newly tallied ballots ?did not change the outcome of any Sussex County primary election in any race for any office, Republican or Democrat.?

NYT: New Local Election Ordered in N.J. After Mail-In Voter Fraud Charges

A judge ruled that the election in Paterson had been irreversibly tainted. The president has used the case to assail mail-in voting as dangerous, though election experts disagree.

Nearly 20 percent of the mail-in ballots in a municipal election in Paterson were thrown out because of irregularities.

By Troy Closson Aug. 19, 2020

In the days before New Jersey?s third-largest city held municipal elections in May entirely by mail, postal workers became suspicious when they found hundreds of ballots bundled together.

The discovery triggered an investigation that led to charges of voter fraud against two local elected leaders and resulted in nearly 20 percent of the ballots being rejected. It also prompted President Trump to cite the case as an example of how mail-in voting can corrupt elections, though election experts staunchly disagree.

On Wednesday, a New Jersey judge ruled that the election in Paterson, N.J., had been irreversibly tainted and ordered a new vote to be held in November to settle the race for the City Council seat.

The superior court judge, Ernest M. Caposela, wrote that the election ?was not the fair, free and full expression of the intent of the voters.?

His decision came one day after the Trump campaign sued New Jersey over its recent decision to conduct the November election almost entirely by mail to keep people safe from the coronavirus.

The lawsuit claims that the move by Gov. Philip D. Murphy, a Democrat, was unconstitutional, arguing that the power to change election rules lies with state lawmakers, not the governor.

Mr. Trump?s campaign cited the Paterson corruption case as a reason not to expand voting by mail. ?By ordering universal vote-by-mail, he has created a recipe for disaster,? the suit said.

With more voters than ever eligible to vote by mail because of the outbreak, Mr. Trump has repeatedly warned, without any evidence, that mail-in ballots would lead to widespread fraud and would call into question the results of the November election.

But some election experts said it was somewhat misleading to use the Paterson scandal as a cudgel to discredit mail-in voting, noting that election fraud is extremely rare and, as the case in New Jersey shows, is usually easy to detect.

Driving along rt 440 or West Side Avenue from Bayonne to Journal Square noticed almost every street sewer is covered with crap. Cans, bottles, papers, and cardboard. If you saw videos from the flood at Sip and West Side last week you would be amazed to know that the sewers there are blocked with crap as of Sunday. I know there are other issues in that spot which has been flooding for decades but at least give the poor intersection a fighting chance and clean off the sewer.

If you can safely clean off a sewer near you do so.

I know I am dreaming but maybe the city and county will take care of it before the expected heavy rain as can be seen coming in MDM?s Isaias Hurricane track thread.
