those happen to be my 3 favorite bars but I do not participate in the stabbings. Does that make me part of the problem?

Do NOT underestimate the Chef. Boyardee that is.

Italian food is so basic, if done right. It all depends what kind of italian food you are looking for: fine dining, authentic, homestyle... I personally like the homestyle cookin but havent found a good place in JC yet (but I'm fairly new to the area). There are some good place in hoboken.

First off, congrats on getting out of portland, Maine.

Second - I dont know if you got the memo, but new york city is across the river. You should give that area a try.

thanks for the replies.

So there arent random/shady groups of people hanging out in the park? Think I'd be ok if I carried a weapon or mase?

What are other safer routes into the park other than that little crappy bridge/walkway

Is it safe to run in Liberty State Park after dark?

If not, where is a good place to run at night. Other than the obvious answers (gym, treadmill, track...)

That block isn't that bad. It's probably the best location in the grove st path area in terms of being in the middle of everything (restaurants, bars, stores etc.).

That st will change dramatically in the next 5-10 yrs as they plan to knock down that ugly blue/greyish building across the st and build apts in that parking lot on the corner of Barrow and CC.

I think Rosina will also have a parking garage on the first fl? should be interesting

I went the other day, waited 30 min for a table, waiter was very rude, took an extremely long time to order and get our meal, they served us the wrong order, when I asked for more water the waiter actually punched me in the face.

But the food was so good, cant wait to go back!

I think you guys hit it on the nose.

I'd agree with your assessment sticking with historic downtown or the waterfront.

To break it down some more "historic downtown" is split into two areas - the Hamilton Park area and the Van Vorst Park area. Hamilton Park is a little quiter and far from the path. Van Vorst is closer to the Grove St path station and is where all the bars and restaurants are. You could even get away with walking to exchange place from there.

Like people said, coming home late night can be a pain but the trains typically run on schedule. Going into the city during the day say on a weekend is easy. I use this website to catch the path when I go in and it's always accurate: http://nynj.net/

Lincoln park which is a couple blocks from Van Vorst is really nice as well. I'd say it's better than central park bc you have the ellis island and the statue of liberty right there and a great view of the manhattan skyline.

I second that. It depends how close you are to Jersey Ave. Ambulences all throughout the night. They will wake you up

Pavonia, newport, exchange place - though they have some really nice luxury high rises that are totally in your budget, it's very quiet. I dont think it's the scene you're looking for.

Hoboken is more of a younger crowd, lots of bars that are usually packed thurs, fri and sat nights. Recent grads and party goers from NJ flock to hoboken on the weekends. If that's the scene you are looking for.

Grove st. is a lot more laid back but still has a bunch of restaurants and bars. The crowd is a little older, I'd say late 20's early 30's is the average. Easy access to downtown and midtown seeing how the train lines split at Grove st.

If I were you, I'd stay in the city esp bc all of your friends are there...I'd find a place that is close to one of the path stations. It runs one after the other during rush hr.

its probably up there as the cheapest under 200k. The set up is kinda neat, but once you put furniture in there, you're not going to be able to move.

Re: This old factory: Buying in Downtown Jersey City's Dixon Mills

Just can't stay away

I would look into Dixon Mills very carefully. The place looks awkward to begin with but the units are very nice. They are offering, or were offering, exceptionally good mortgage rates and no condo fees for the first year...I guess they are having a tough time getting rid of these.

The walls are thin and I heard they have an ongoing rodent problem. It also feels like I'm in a college dorm and it takes forever to get in and out of the building.

I would be weary of rising monthly fees.

It's a completely different environment than living in a condo, again all depends on what you're looking for.

Someone once said they should create a pedestrian walkway under the hudson with those conveyer belt type things that they have at airports. I think that's genius. No waiting for trains, minimal maintance, and you'll probably get wherever you need to go as fast as the train...

Hey guys,

I just had damian come over to fix a few things on my laptop and would highly recommend him to anyone. Very thorough with his explanations, went above and beyond what he had to do and charged a very reasonable price. He was in and out and I will use him again in the future.

Whatever you do, do not go through Geeks Mobile.

I'm now beginning to think going through your computer tech support is the best option even if your warranty is no longer good. They might be a little pricy, but at least you know you'll be getting good service.

simalcga - understand your frustration but it's a little diff situation than mta subways.

ex. a day like today, everyone is crowded around the entrance bc they know the train is going to be packed and only a handful of people are able to get on. It's frustrating bc when you've seen 2 trains go by and you cant get on, you get a little more aggresive with your approach. Also, not many people get off the train at grove st coming from newark or JSQ so it is safe to assume no one is getting off hence the heavy traffic in front of the doors.

Good to know. I never paid less than 35 when i lived in Hoboken, I would imagine Hamilton park being about the same.

While we're on the topic. Can someone recommend a cheap reliable taxi service? And how much would it cost to get to Newark Liberty Intl?

I would go by liberty state park. Beautiful walkways along the water but it's a little far from the path stations.

Agree with the above poster, exchange place walkway is probably your best bet.

What ever happened to the connection to the E train from WTC?
