Very violent chronic shoplifter at A&P supermarket rode up on a silver/gray specialized bike with letters rubbing off. Had a black seat with 2 yellow/mustard gel packs in the seat. He left it there when he got taken away by the police.

Someone told me there is a guy in a van that stops and buys them near St Lucy's shelter for 10-20 bucks with no questions asked. I'm kind of trying to confirm it. I've lost two in the last year and I'm pretty sure at least one was to a specific person that hangs in this area.

It is funny to me that all the transplants in the downtown area of Jersey City are all suddenly scared that the 'thugs' from other areas are infiltrating into the area... news flash : that precise downtown area for years was the bowels of the city... you couldn't pay someone to live in that Paulus Hook area it was always a desolated, gang- ridden war zone. Older family friends have expressed to me that in the past this area was a meeting ground for disorderly groups to drink, party, and handle their differences. In the past, it was group rumbles with maybe some weapons, today it is guns and killings... The natives of Jersey City know that all the downtown area is, is make-up put on the surface of the city. What some of you should do, is instead of hopping on the Path to NYC on a hot summer night, you should jump on the light rail and head south and west,. By doing this, you will be able to see how beautiful Jersey City is. Make sure you get off at the Virginia / MLK stop and enjoy the sights. Most of you wouldn't get off the train..Maybe after your nice little tour of the city on a summer night, you will appreciate the J.C.P.D. and all their efforts.. You all dont realize how safe you really are ...

That is what it used to be. Let us not go backwards. Let us maintain the improvements that have been made AND lift up the rest of the city. As for the JCPD folks could pick on them all day and God knows they are not perfect. But it sure is reassuring to know that there is someone to call and clearly they have a difficult job. There are times they very much deserve appreciation.

This project should never have been handled as just another development. It is the graveyard of thousands of innocent American citizens who were just trying to do their jobs that day. Something spectacular should have been built for the entire world to see. An iconic structure that would be the pride of our entire nation should be there now. In regards to this "project" our country looks impotent {instead of important} to the rest of the world.

The buildings in Dubai don't have to build a foundation above three active subway lines, a giant bathtub, or have to ship all the materials the Hudson River.

Granted there are somewhat unique challenges involved, including many political hurdles, but the fact that nothing stands on that location today is a national disgrace IMHO.

Walked through the park this am at apx 7:30am ready to clean up around the court for a few minutes. It was actually pretty clean so someone had done some cleaning. Only took me about 10 minutes. Going to be an ongoing process.

Exactly....go for win-win situations. Not looking to gouge vendors but maybe they could buy trash bags or even just police their area and help keep it clean.

The parking shouldn't be much of a problem unless something like 6 trucks all of a sudden show up which I suppose could happen.

If I see Flava again I will say something to her. Just think the ambience of the park is diminished with vendors IN the park. A convenient hot dog or something is nice nearby thou.

The park renovations look great. Lots of folks enjoying it today as I walked through on my way home. The clean up committee is a great idea and perhaps I could participate depending on scheduling.

My old community used to "close the court down for cleaning" twice a day. When trash was picked up the court reopened. Kids used to run around like crazy for about 5 minutes so they could get back to playing ball. Just an idea.

Can we keep vendors out of the actual park? Today there were nine vendors that I saw in just a five minute walk. Most like Made with Love were outside which seems like a good compromise to me as long as the sidewalk around them is clean and clear. The Catch the Flava lady however was in the park near the playground ringing her damn bell incesantly which seemed over the top to me. Is everyone ok with the food trucks taking up the valuable parking spaces around the park? Not a judgement by me, just asking the question.

Also should vendors that are making a profit at/near the park contribute toward clean up???

Outside my window. No fire dept or ambulance in view. Some closed box that has been out there for awhile. Wonder if this is a drill. No one in immediate area was evacuated. People walking over and around police tape, which is coming down right now

I'm curious.....why Jeep Liberties? Who was the salesperson/dealer? Were they somebodies relative or a campaign donor? Thirty five vehicles at 25 thou a vehicle is 875,000 bucks. Did they get a deal or pay full price? At that volume of purchase an incredible deal should have been obtained. Maybe a nice follow up story for some reporter.

There are many dealership tricks. Here are a few.

They will try to keep you there as long as possible. It has been proven that an average buyer's resistance weakens as they sit. Especially at the end of the transaction when they sometimes try to add on all the misc. charges. Many people want to just be done with it at that point. Remember these folks are pros so don't give them even more of an advantage by playing by their rules. Set a time limit upon arrival. Tell them and stick to it. Remind them while there that you will be leaving at this very specific time.

They will try to get the keys to your trade in so they can supposedly check it out. Handing over the keys prevents you from walking out. Never prematurely give over the keys
to your car during negotiations.

They will usually try to get you to sign something even if it is meaningless, such as a silly lowball offer to bring to their "boss". This is a psych trick. They are trying to get you conditioned to keep saying yes as often as possible. They want you to believe that the salesperson is really trying hard to work for you. That he is your friend. It is business and although friendly he is not your friend. He works and is accountable to his boss not you.

Negotiate all aspects of the deal. Many dealers will lose money on auto purchase price or trade just to hammer you on financing.

Welcome to the neighborhood. There are actually a lot of old timers around during the day that keep an eye on everything. Really not such a bad neighborhood. You will be close to Hamilton Park which is nice.

Kids on skateboards can be a little noisy on 8th & Brunswick sometimes but they are usually just having fun.

Hope you like church bell recordings from Holy Rosary at 9am, 3pm, 6pm & 7pm. I personally love them and find them charming.

Music Box bar at 7th & Monmouth got cited recently by ABC. They got shut down for 6 out of 7 Monday nights for first reported offense of serving very late at night. Also required to have a basic dress code. Also supposed to help controll outside noise as much as possible. Most problems seem to happen in the smoking "area" just outside the front door. A lot of the patrons at this bar have the habit of yelling as ordinary converstion. Don't think many from the neighborhood go in this bar. Most of the locals here go in White Star Bar at Pavonia and Brunswick.

Re: State calls for renegotiating 'too expensive' Jersey City police and fire contracts

Police and Firefighters that risk their life for our safety deserve a good wage. Teachers that educate the future of our society also deserve a good wage. HOWEVER right now given the cities' dire financial situation and the hurting economy nobody should be getting a pay raise IMHO. All the wasteful expenditures absolutely have to go! Many folks have had to get creative and learn to get by with diminished financial resources. ( I work hard and deserve a new automobile but that is not happening anytime soon because I can't afford it right now.) The city has to ethically learn how to do the same thing. It really is that simple.

Just got back. Had a burger and fries for $10. Good Angus burger with Swiss Cheese, thin sliced roma tomatoes and some lettuce. Fries were thick cut with a little skin on them and were slightly presalted. Tiny portion of cold foccacia bread and oil came out late. Waiter was attentive but very inexperienced and many others seemed that way. All to be expected for an opening. I'll certainly try them again and wish them luck. No refills on the soda. Only real negative in the experience. Was charged $2 each time for a small coke. $10 for burger, $4 for soda, $1 tax and $5 tip = $20 for whole thing. Looking forward to trying the paella on my next trip.

Thanks for the question. At Thursday's BOE meeting, Terry Dehere, BOE member and Finance Chair, mentioned that he received details of the contract just days before, which was his reason for voting the way he did. At a taping, yesterday, for Talking Politics with Mia Scanga, Gerry McCann mentioned that there is no contract. I say these things because I know even less than these board members and haven't seen any document, contract or otherwise, despite my efforts. As such, i cannot responsibly give my opinion, at least until I get more information.

With that said, in these cynical times it is easy to forget the impact teacher?s have not just on the children in our communities, but on the quality of life for everybody. A good teacher really can be the difference between a child going to college or going to prison. It makes sense then to pay a wage to teachers that attracts the best of them to our schools.

Also, in these times of fiscal crisis, everyone must do their part. So in return for salary increases, concessions should not be out of the question. As I?ve said from the beginning, cuts should start in administration with the many high paid lofty adminstrators than on the backs of hardworking teachers.

But again, honestly, I can?t take a firm stand until I know the details. If I am fortunate enough to be elected to the BOE, I will be proactive in obtaining facts/info on issues that need a vote and will cast my vote when expected.

This contract being in limbo as long as it has certainly benefits no one.

Sterling

Quite honestly your answer seems kind of wishy-washy. Seems like you are trying to play both political sides of the fence.....I get a good feeling about you and it seems like you are running for all the right reasons. Some of those you are running against will definately not get my vote because of their character deficiencies. Your positions seem well thought out, which is good. Just first impressions based entirely on this thread.

Often the bank will waive the mortgage ins. on a REO (a property they actually owned) if they do the financing because that property converts directly to them on a default. They will always try to include it in the deal. Sometimes a long standing account or something like a CD account/Investment/IRA account will be enough to have it negotiated out.
