Re: PATH (pathetic attempt at transporting humans)

I completely agree - and some of the questions are ridiculously biased. 'What do you think PATH should spend their money on? A. Gold plated toilets in the employee restroom or B. Windex"

The fact that the survey is being advertised in a thread that isn't exactly pro-PATH is also going to heavily skew your results.

If you want skewed results, fine and good... otherwise, you're doing it wrong.

AT LINCOLN PARK
Softball tournament to honor fallen police officers
Friday, September 11, 2009
By MICHAELANGELO CONTE
JOURNAL STAFF WRITER
The eighth Annual Police Officer Domenick J. Infantes Jr./Fallen Officers Memorial Softball Tournament will be played tomorrow in Jersey City's Lincoln Park.

"We are hoping family members and other residents will come out not only to enjoy some softball, but to have something to eat, listen to music and pay tribute to our officers who died in the line of duty," said Jersey City POBA President Jerry DeCicco yesterday.

The tournament will begin at 8 a.m. and is comprised of 20 teams made up of law enforcement, firefighting and emergency medical services personnel, DeCicco said.

There will be a break in the play at noon for a ceremony, featuring bagpipers, to honor the 32 Jersey City police officers who have died in the line of duty. A concert featuring four local bands will follow the ceremony.

At 6 p.m., there will be a celebrity softball exhibition game dedicated to Detective Marc DiNardo, courtesy of the Hudson Film Group. The exhibition will feature various actors and actresses from TV, radio and movies, according to Infantes' brother, Jersey City Police Officer Erik Infantes.

Domenick Infantes died on July 6, 2001, two days after being struck on the back of the head with a metal pipe. Though off-duty, witnesses said he had identified himself as a police officer and was attempting to break up a fight when he was struck.

On July 16, DiNardo was shot by an armed robbery suspect as he and other officers went door-to-door in a Reed Street building looking for the man and his accomplice. DiNardo died just days later. A total of five officers were shot in the incident and both suspects were killed by police.

Tomorrow's tournament is being organized by the Jersey City Police Officers Benevolent Association and will benefit the POBA scholarship fund

Thanks for the tips guys - I was a little unsure of the area, but from what you are all saying, if it's even a debate whether there are trains right there or not then it can't possibly be that bad. As far as the tracks you see on google maps that run east of CC, I think that's the old line that used to run above Columbus... hard to tell though.

Seems like it could be a good area

I didn't even notice the freight trains... it looks like the PATH goes underground right there so I'm sure there's some noise from that too

I'm looking to move to CC and was wondering if the noise from 78 is bad at night - doesn't seem too bad, but wanted to hear from someone who lives in that area. thanks.

I know this country is trying to be ultra PC, but how could race, etc. not be mentioned in identifying the suspect? Public safety shouldn't come second to political correctness.

Newark-bound PATH train to Newark Penn Station, take the NJ Transit Northeast Corridor or NJ Coast Line (Make sure the train route says EWR next to it) to the Airport - first stop, transfer to AirTrain, and get off in your terminal. Be sure to save your NJ Transit ticket, as you'll need it to get into the AirTrain

Most taxi fares are standardized by the airport dispatch, so I'm not sure that you'll find a better price than that unless you book one prior to your flight (as opposed to booking one curbside). Train might not be bad if you go when they're running often, but then you'll have to tay 3 different trains just to get to JSQ... might not be worth it. NJ Transit is 7.50/pp for the train

Why not? I have a Costco American Express card that I routinely keep a balance on... it's not a gift card, it's not a debit card, so what is it?

We go weekly and get water for our water cooler there - it's not even $5. Great prices on sunblock too

Thanks, but what about evening parking. About 6PM - 8AM?

In addition, can anyone recommend some inexpensive ethic restaurants around the hotel ? Reachable by walking or Path ?

There's a lot of ethnic food on Grove - about a 10 min walk down Columbus from the Hyatt - everything from Chinese/Thai/Japanese to Pakistani, Soul Food, Cuban, Falafel. Really can't go wrong on Grove.

More funds for the oversized white T-shirts. Have you seen the new projects going up near lincoln park/off 440? Lets see how long these stay livable.
