All the Bush years did is prove that Government does, what Government wants, regardless of what the people say. And the Healy Team is following in Bush's teachings.

And the sad thing is, if there was a recall, who would fill the seats? It's a one party system in JC, makes me think our local government is a dictatorship. There is no alternative.

Did they pass the new budget with the tax increase? I thought they did, cause at one point about 8p, after a vote, a bunch of people near me left.

And if they didn't pass the budget with the tax increase, when is their plan to do so?

And if they do pass the budget, can we get a recall on any of them, and Healy?

By Insty referring to this gathering as a *Tea Party*, this movement has already been discredited.

Ready to be labeled as part of the extreme right wing?

Seems that if you don't like paying taxes, and try to do something about it, you're part of the *Tea Party*, thus, part of the extreme right wing, which in turn, makes you a nutjob.

But if you like paying taxes, you're planning for the future.

A few years ago, some jerk in my building, was smoking in bed, and fell asleep. Bedroom went up in flames, and the apts below were flooded out from the water hoses.

Luckily, nobody was hurt.

In this day and age, what the hell is wrong with people?

I'm a little confused. Not sure how firearms bestow and ability to play God. Since the four items you mention can also be used to dubious ends.

I've heard people make this point before, they backed it up by stating that you can do such a thing (play God) at a distance.

An attempt to show, that you can't say that a country with strong gun laws, or gun bans, will automatically have lower crime rates.

But you laid it out clearly. How there is no universal way of recording crime.

The comparison of violent crime statistics between countries is often problematic due to the way different countries classify crime. Valid comparisons require that similar offences between jurisdictions be compared. Often this is not possible because crime statistics aggregate equivalent offences in such different ways that make it difficult or impossible to obtain a valid comparison.

For example, the UK classifies violent crime as all violence against the person, sexual offenses, and robbery whereas the US counts five categories of crime as violent crimes: murder, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, and simple assault.

So your point is moot.

Exactly.

And thanks for explaining how using countries with strict gun control, who thus have alleged lower crime rates, is a moot point, and a fallacy when compared with the U.S.

It's not a very strong argument. Especially since you're ignoring evidence that countries with stronger gun laws (or no guns) have less crime. Sure, the only people with guns might be criminals (or law enforcement/military). But there will be a lot less guns for criminals, reducing crime, reducing the need for you to have a gun.

Criminals with guns aren't making them in their basements. They're coming from gun factories that are producing them legally.

Simple thing called States Rights.

That's why the National CCW Bill failed.

Lautenberg himself stood firmly by stating that other States should not dictate to NJ on how to make it's own laws.

Erica:

Interesting point.

I've always wondered about that too. Since Jersey City has thousands, and thousands of legally registered firearms, you notice that gun crime is very low. Out of a city with 240k residents, DeFazio's office reports less than 20 gun related murders in '08 in JC.

And up until that kook (Dave's Sporting Goods??) shot his gun in the air on Newark Avenue, no legal gun owning resident of Jersey City was involved with any gun offense.

In terms of efficacy of this initiative, I'd be interested in seeing which portion of illegal guns in JC come from law abiding citizens selling to folks who shouldn't have them versus being completely black market...

Here's the ATF Trace Report for NJ 2008

http://www.atf.gov/statistics/downloa ... trace-data-new-jersey.pdf

NJ has it's own trace system, NJTrace, which supposedly traces things in more detail. But that info is for law enforcement only I'm told, and does not post reports for public viewing online like the ATF.

did...did you read my post at all? Performing thorough background checks instead of instant checks (or not performing them at all) would be a step in the right direction.

Do you really think that only obtaining one handgun per month is really a good enough deterrent? What does it matter how many guns a criminal or unstable person can get each month. He's still getting them. Thorough background checks are a more reliable tool for keeping guns out of the wrong hands.

Do you even read your own?

Are you suggesting that criminals be submitted to background checks before purchasing firearms?

And with regards to unstable people, it's only know if they're unstable, when mental health records, are submitted to NCIS. That has been corrected since VA Tech, since that wasn't done. But the problem with mental health records, is obvious. They don't get submitted if there isn't any.

With regards to thorough background checks, fortunately, this already happens in NJ, before NJ residents are set up in NCIS. I don't know about other States.

I always hear this argument from pro-gun people and there's really no basis behind it. There's no logic to it.

Anyway, as much as I approve of tighter gun control laws, it doesn't really mean shit because as long as Virginia, Georgia, Texas, and other states have guns freely available to anybody that wants them, criminal elements will just head to those states. Most of the gun crime in northern and pacific states is linked back to southern states with extremely lax gun laws.

guess you didn't read the article.

Virginia has a One Gun a Month law. So how are guns in Virginia freely available?

Towing Fee's?
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

Hey Everybody,

Recently my car was mistakenly towed, and ticketed. Went to Court and was found not guilty.

Asked about getting my towing charged refunded, was told to go to the Parking Authority.

Parking Authority told me to go to the PD in my nieghborhood.

Haven't spoken to them yet, but noticed my receipt for the impound fee's has Jersey City Incinerator Authority on it.

I'm thinking I need to ask them.

Is this something I'll need to take to small claims court?

Anybody get towing fee's refunded when found not guilty?
