Interesting. I wonder if this puts to rest rumors I was hearing about WF looking at the 2nd Journal Squared building. Or maybe a 365 would still be a possibility there.

I live close enough that I can hear when there's a traffic issue on Newark Av from my bedroom. I walk Newark Av every day. There is not a continuous backup across the entire city because of the Pedestrian Plaza. That just is not reality at all. The worst-performing parts of Newark Av are in JSQ. And that has nothing to do with the Pedestrian Plaza, because east of JSQ, Newark Av operates under capacity and at a high level of service.

Your understanding of the principles of traffic engineering and traffic fluidity in an urban street network are not well-developed.

Wait, what does the pedestrian plaza on Newark between Erie and Grove have to do with traffic in India Square and by Monteleone's?

I agree that traffic in India Square can be a pain, and it has been made worse by the Skyway/Route 139 work and Waze routing drivers onto Newark Ave through India Square to get around that construction mess.

But that has nothing to do with a one-block pedestrian plaza on the other side of town.

I walk up to Monteleone's from time to time. There's a CitiBike dock near there too. I should stop by and pickup some cookies and pastries, maybe this weekend.

Read the recent letter from the Jersey City Redevelopment Agency's legal counsel to Kushner Companies. Ties to Trump are the least of the problems.

Agree. It's technically simple, institutionally questionable. EZ Pass is just a contractor. It would be up to NJ Turnpike Authority and Port Authority to coordinate and allow EZ Pass to process the data to do this.

Re: Citi Bike

CitiBike JC is withdrawing from Wards A, B, and F. If you live in these wards, or ride CitiBike there, they'll offer you a prorated refund.

Some combination of high annual membership cost, low density of stations, and who knows what other factors, mean that bike share is not going to be part of residents', workers', students' and visitors' transportation solutions in half of the city.

Quote:
Dear riders,

At Citi Bike Jersey City, we are always seeking to provide the best service for as many riders as possible. After evaluating our 2017 ridership data (also recently analyzed by our friends at Bike JC), and coordinating with the City of Jersey City, we will be relocating 9 of the least utilized stations in the network to boost capacity in high demand areas.

The stations that will be relocated are:

NJCU
Union Street
Columbia Park
Danforth Light Rail
Bayview Park
MLK Light Rail
West Side Light Rail
Garfield Avenue
Bethune Center

We understand these changes may mean a loss of service to some current members. If you think you are one of them, just give us a call at 1-855-BIKE-311 and we are happy to provide a prorated refund. If you?ve used any of these stations in the past three months, we will send you an email notifying you when we plan to relocate it. We will also be sure to update our app as these stations are moved and new ones join the system. We believe that these adjustments will provide improved service and build a strong foundation for future growth.

Thank you for your understanding.

Sincerely,

Citi Bike Jersey City

Hudson Reporter 3/3/2018:(Jersey City) Kiosks will provide information and revenue

?A plan to install information kiosks throughout the city has been delayed by state regulations and will also limit these to commercial areas.

Brian Platt, director of the city?s Office of Innovation, said a plan to install these around the city ran into a snag when the state Department of Transportation stepped in.

?We thought the state only controlled state roads,? he said. ?But apparently they control what gets installed on all roads.?

The city has signed an agreement with Smart City Media to develop and install public information kiosks in Jersey City.

The company would install and maintain these, and the city will get a percentage of profit from the advertisements displayed on the kiosks.

The city, however, has to apply to the state for a permit for each of the kiosks, and the state apparently is only willing to permit the city to install them in commercial districts.

?Fortunately that?s where we intended to put them anyway,? Platt said.

Each kiosk will provide touch screen limited internet access to provide public information about the area, directions to points of interest and other such information.

Each will also provide free Wi-Fi connections within 200 feet of them, Platt said.?

Great. Our sidewalks aren't narrow enough already, now we'll throw a bunch of "kiosks" onto them.

Re: Group wants new highway leading to Jersey City Waterfront

So are we just going to ignore the fact that their proposed "bypass" goes through new and under-construction high-rise buildings that don't show up on the google image they used?

Are we going to ignore the fact that their "Exit 14D" ramps take out an active freight railroad?

Are we going to ignore the fact that light rail through the Bergen Arches cannot share tracks with freight and passenger commuter rail unless there's a time-of-day separation like the River Line (but that's much harder to do because there's many times more rail traffic here), so you'd need to find a new way for LRT tracks to get from the Arches to SEC JCT?

Looks like someone drew some lines on a map without checking what's on the ground there, and then hired a DC lobbying firm to push the quarter-baked "idea."

My mortgage company pays my taxes too (actually they contract it out). I still received my letter in the mail the same week I saw my property listed in ASI?s spreadsheet. I haven?t shared the letter with my mortgage company because these amounts are estimates and we haven?t actually been billed at the new amounts yet. When the new bills come out, my mortgage company will get it.

But this property isn't surrounded by 1-2 family homes. It's surrounded by 5-6 story apartment buildings. This building is still out of scale, but I've found Hilltop's "But think of the houses!" argument to be disingenuous.

Does anyone know what this "park" between Summit and Baldwin is supposed to look like? I haven't seen a site plan anywhere.

Wasn't ASI supposed to be done notifying homeowners of their new assessed values by 2/19? My entire block still isn't in the spreadsheet (last updated on Friday 2/23), and I haven't gotten my letter yet.

This post makes no sense. Affordable housing means housing that is affordable for people who earn x% of the area median income, not tax-free housing. If that housing is less valuable than other housing then it would, of course, be taxed based on a lower assessed value. Do you confuse affordable housing with public housing?

Thanks. I guess I confused the date with the renovation of the MTA stairwell at the same station (32nd & Broadway), which was closed from Aug or Sept until 12/28/17 for renovation, and is now reopened.

I wonder why the PATH stairs renovation is taking so much longer. Did Calatrava design it?

Anyone know the full story about the stairs at the south end of the 33rd Street station?

I thought the sign said they'd be closed through the end of 2017. Today I hoped to use them, but the sign now says they're closed "through early 2018." That sign may have been changed months ago, for all I know.

I'm just wondering what could they possibly be doing that the stairs are closed for 4 months (and counting)?

Google searching and PATH website searching hasn't yielded any information.

8:39 another WTC train comes and I am in the front of the platform and I get in, and it is packed.
Train pulls into Exchange Place where generally several people get out but not today. Sucks for you Exchange Place riders.
Total wait time only 10 minutes. Total experience: Sucked but typical.

I would love to be able to get to the airport via the Path but additional riders in the morning commute, and on the WTC line would be a disaster.

I was on a WTC train around that time, but got on at JSQ. The train was packed there, and a few people couldn't get on. Rare that I've seen the WTC line that crowded at JSQ.

Which is why the county goes to considerable lengths and expense to provide you with a sample ballot several days in advance, via mail - so you don't have to stand in there all day, taking up everyone else's time.
