Ok not me, but my lady friend is getting engagement photos and wants to look her best. Any recommendation for someone who is professional and reliable?

Nice catch Fat Ass.

I personally would love one of these at the corner of monmouth and second. Anyone who has crossed there knows its a free for all at that corner with people constantly taking a left on red and running that light with impunity.

Or could it be that people from outside the town may travel through? I know JC gets it fair share of people cutting through to go to the tunnel. Perhaps that is the case here?

It was nice meeting you the other day Brooklyn. I will always smile thinking of that thief with the Tiffany bag full of poo.

I am aware of this city having lived here for many years. I don't think its anything it is not. I am aware of its pros and its cons. But for anyone to say this is a quiet neighborhood, that's just plain wrong. This shooting is just another example.

Having lived in this neighborhood for 3 years now, I can honestly say, it's anything but quiet. I never claimed to want the suburbs. I love this city warts and all. Would I raise kids here? Nope.

So, in light of this shooting, does everyone still think this is a safe area?

Also, does anyone else see the irony in Grove Path posting the story about the shooting on First and Brunswick, or is it just me?

Wonder why he didn't post it in this thread...

How about all the cops out there right now? I was out and saw one cop pointing to the trails of blood going down Brunswick. The fire department has roped off the building on the corner of 2nd and brunswick and it looks like an investigation is going on. Any info on this?

That really hurts coming from you Willy. You calling someone retarded is like a midget calling someone short.

That bar attracts that sort of incident. If you lived there, which you do not, you would know these sorts of drunken arguments are par for the course.

You and I both know you were talking about "Another Man's Treasure." Do you live there? That one on third and Newark is a dump. One tiny step up from a salvation army. In fact, OP, please go to the "vintage" shop he speaks of. Do you honestly think I don't know my own neighborhood?

OP- You can choose to listen to whoever you want, an actual resident of said neighborhood, or someone who doesn't live there. And for the record, I am a real person.

I assume I am the "troll" in question. In my defense, I can only say, having lived on that particular corner for 3 years now (and in JC for 11), I would NOT raise my family there. While it's true there are many of those stores that Grove mentioned, after dark the place becomes a different beast all together. Grove clearly doesn't live on this intersection, so I would take his advice with a grain of salt. (the one vintage shop he speaks of moved about a year ago)

Do a search for Abby's on here. Or for the Latin Lounge. See how happy the residents are to have those two bars so close. Not quiet at all.

2nd and brunswick is anything but quiet. While it suits my needs now, I would not raise my children there. Between one of the "local" bars (which brings in a seedy element from god knows where) and the proximity to other parts of JC that just haven't been renovated yet, I would say do not move your family there. It might look OK now, but it is particularly bad in the summer.

Third Rail,

That post really points out how ridiculous that post was. Great job. Would read again. A+++.

And Phil,

The last time you posted an helpful link, you know the one from the avma? Well it said this:

Concerns about ?dangerous? dogs have caused many local governments to consider supplementing existing animal control laws with ordinances directed toward control of specific breeds or
types of dogs. Members of the Task Force believe such
ordinances are inappropriate and ineffective.

It helps if you actually READ your links.

seriously Phil,

you are never going to win this one. You are proposing something that will never be enforced, is a minor problem at worst, and is going to piss off every dog owner in the city. Do you honestly think, with it's multitude of real problems, JC is going to focus on passing your irrational dog laws? Just because you clearly hate dogs, doesn't mean most people do. In fact, your opinion puts you squarely in the minority. If you really hate dogs, you are in the wrong city.

And the car comparison, which you either refuse to understand or just plain do not get, is that you want to enforce a law that would inconvenience many people, so the few could feel safer. What Vigilante was doing was showing you a much bigger problem, that effects almost all of us in one way or another and is similarly not being enforced. Your priorities. They are out of whack.

You do a good job of stating how you feel and the problem with other's solutions. What is your solution?

JRL joined yesterday and all 14 of his posts have been mayor bashing.

I am no fan of the Healy, but seriously JRL, what did this guy do to you? Outside of a concerned citizen, what sort of interest do you have in this? Are YOU running for mayor?

Re: Spray Foam Insulation

Home away from home

I have done this in my closets, but I did it all by myself. My closets used to be freezing in the winter (I am talking meat locker cold). Whatever genius designed the place didn't think to put insulation in between the inside walls and the outside ones, so it was cold. So I banged a bunch of holes in there and filled it with that spray, it improved it greatly, but not as good as if I were to get a contractor to rip out the walls. Hope that helps.

LoKo498,

I had the same problem except my bills were even higher. I got one for $350 one winter. And I am not the type to put it over 70. The problem ended up being with my hot water heater. It might have been leaking gas or something, but I replaced it (which sucked) but now my bill is normal again. Doesn't go over $120 in the winter.

Jersey City mayor releases Christmas music CD
by The Associated Press
Thursday December 18, 2008, 10:46 AM

Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy, who has become known for singing at informal gatherings, is releasing a CD of his own.

Healy, who's been mayor of New Jersey's second largest city for the last four years, said music was a big part of his family's Christmas tradition dating back to when they emigrated from Ireland.

The disc contains seven Christmas favorites and two bonus songs. It's produced by Cliff Perkins of the vocal group Soul Generation, and members of the St. Dominic Academy Choir provide backup.

Healy plan to distribute copies of the CD today.

Glad to see with all the other problems in Jersey City solved, we can finally tackle the lack of Christmas CDs.
