Re: Jersey City considers turning Newark Avenue into pedestrian plaza

Yeah.. it is pretty funny.. was the poster that posted the photo serious or joking?

There are literally 20 different methods to get around this "bottleneck".

I'm really trying to think of why I would ever need to drive this stretch of road, and I can't think of 1. I suppose every piece of legislation needs to have some opposition (ie. Yvonne), no matter how stupid it is.

Amazing that it takes 5 pages for the whole community to try to get some actual logic through Yvonne's thick skull. There really is absolutely no traffic in this half block. In my 11 years of living downtown, I'm not sure I ever had a need to drive over there.

Re: 1/2 Jersey City addresses

I think that's a bit extreme to do that... it's really not THAT bad. UPS does sometimes deliver next door when it's not the normal driver, and other mail gets to the wrong place sometimes, but it eventually ends up at the right place - the neighbors will be used to getting mail / packages for the 1/2 are normally kind enough to bring it over.

In regards to all the systems that wont accept either a .5 or a 1/2, I've had to call banks and other places and they can figure it out manually.

My largest concern as I mentioned above is with the GPS's. It will honestly take a disaster and 911 deployed to wrong place for any action to fix the addresses... For my address, I'm on York near Grove Street, and most GPS will bring you on York down near the river somewhere...

Same problem here. Let alone GPS gets people lost constantly and packages get delivered to the wrong place all the time.

It's only a matter of time before a disaster happens and 911 is deployed to the wrong place. I'm on York St. and every other house is a 1/2.

and it's not like the escalator even does anything. You still gotta climb over a turnstyle and walk another flight of stairs regardless. Insane.

Yeah.. how much money has gone into that stupid escalator for like 10 stairs. Put some damn steps in there, and do something on the other end.

yeah... one would think maybe they were attempting to be too clever in their marketing to come up with such a stupid concept.

Even if any of their odd, overpriced items had ever tempted to walk in the store, let alone tell a friend -- i couldn't actually tell the friend the name of store because i couldn't pronounce it myself.

Actually, this explains a lot about this site.

Explains a lot about the site that someone posts a vague topic and puts nothing of substance in the message and wants everyone to read an entire article? You gotta be kidding me.

Re: Morning commute

Ramsey is gonna be a killer for you. It takes like 1.5 hours by train, only other real option is 1&9 to 17 either by 3 or Turnpike. It takes like 20 - 30 minutes just to get up 3 alone due to the Tonnelle traffic circle / 139 construction / upcoming closure of Pulaski skyway - all that bs that will last for years. Once you get to 17 you should be okay.

It'll probably take you about an hour to get to Ramsey by car which is your best method.

Re: Flooding Question - York Street

I'm on York, south side, about half way between Grove and Barrow.. the street was a friggen 6-8 foot raging river during Sandy - not exaggerating. Seriously, you needed a jetski or boat if you had any desire to leave. I had moved my car up to the area you are talking about prior to the storm and it was saved.. not sure how much they took in the basements there though.

because outside that 1 crime (other then his childhood crimes), which is very debatable to begin with as he had no defense team, he would somehow be harming you knowing that he lived near by? Maybe watch his documentary or something. The guy had genuinely attempted to rebuild his image.

The OP (who is nowhere to be found after posting the question) mentioned that the place took in 6 feet of water during Sandy.. so not sure what the hell your talking about here. Obviously he is talking about a low lying area, either somewhere in Paulus Hook, or York / Grove / Bright / Grand area.

The people on this thread really are clowns, so many much bias it's just laughable. No reason to hate on someone else because of where they want to live, but to tell a non-local that Lafayette is a better investment than Downtown is pretty far fetched as this point in time.

Yes there is flooding Downtown, but it's not 100% of all the blocks that flood. Hoboken is far worse overall but it continues to be a good investment due to LOCATION and ACCESS to Manhattan, just like DTJC. Over here, the same blocks flood over and over, specifically in the vicinity of Bright and Grand from Jersey to Marin. However there are also several areas Downtown that stay dry and made it through both Irene and Sandy without any issues.

If you are looking to buy here, do your homework. If a building is for sale for below market rate, that is a dead give away. Look into the history of the buildings on the block and ask neighbors. This doesn't just go for Downtown, but anywhere. Flooding literally can vary from block to block, just like low-lying areas of Hoboken, Brooklyn, Manhattan (LES, Battery Park City, Financial District, West Chelsea, etc).

Common sense goes a long way.

If it's the one on York Street... don't do it. I live a couple places down... those basement units have all been gutted twice in the past 2 years.. sewers are horrendous. York and Grove is a major problem, and I would expect to have to gut on an annual basis.

Re: New PATH train schedules starting this Sunday

Train service from WTC to Newark overnight (weeknights) is definitely now every 35 minutes. I got there for what I thought would be a 12:35am train (as my android app hasn't been updated for the new schedule yet), and found that the train left at 12:30am, and they are 35 minutes in between trains now.

Ended up shelling out for a cab rather then have to wait down there for another hour. Got home before that 1:05 train would've left.

Yes, I screwed up admittedly.

But when I try to put my ticket number and my license plate online to pay, and it doesn't show up, then no need for me to be paying for their mistake.

I'm guessing that being I can't even match the ticket number with my real license plate online, that there is no chance that they can link that to my real car (or me).

I got a ticket for street sweeping today.

They put the wrong plate number on it. They added an additional letter (can't even pay it online unless I put in the bad plate number).

Anyone have a clue if I should just tear this thing up or do I need to take a day off and sit in court.

Yep not accurate. With Sandy, DTJC north of Columbus and west of Marin was barely touched, aside from some isolated basement flooding. The blue shading makes it look like most areas were hit by flooding. In fact, flooding has never been that widespread as shown in the map in the past 15 years, including Sandy, Irene and the severe flooding in 2007.

All of York street up to Barrow was under, about 4 feet in the streets. Same applies for Bright. So not sure what you're talking about.

I love the selective ticket writing as well. During street sweeping, I would get a ticket within seconds if I'm not there.

Yet my next door neighbor who knows her, she will wait for her a good 3-4 minutes, hitting the horn until she comes out of her apartment and moves the car -- every freaking day.
